Arsenal’s trip to Merseyside ended in disappointment, as they fell to a 1–0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield. Much has been said about the result, but one thing is clear, Arsenal should have done better.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot believes Arsenal ought to be further along in their development. His post-match comments have piled pressure on Mikel Arteta and his technical staff.
Slot takes aim at Arsenal’s transfer policy
“It’s very positive that we haven’t brought in 27, 28, 29-year-olds that are already, like Luis Díaz, in the prime of their career, if you want to call it,” Slot said as per the BBC.
“We bring in very promising, very talented, very good players, but they will need time to adapt to the Premier League, and then already having nine points is very positive.”
From those remarks, it is hard not to feel that Slot was implying Arsenal have opted for ready-made players, signings expected to hit the ground running. Viktor Gyokeres (27), Eberechi Eze (27), and Christian Nørgaard (31) are among the experienced names Arsenal brought in this summer, in what many consider one of their best transfer windows.
Proven over potential
By pivoting away from youth and investing in experience, Arsenal hoped to replicate the instant lift Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko provided when they arrived from Manchester City in 2022. So far, that impact has not materialised. But it is still early days, and many would argue things have not clicked yet for this refreshed Arsenal team.
Hopefully they will, because if they do not, comments like Slot’s will not be the last to surface. Arteta wanted quality signings, players ready to deliver from day one. He has got them. Now, the pressure is firmly on him to make it count.

Slot brags over nothing, he got a matured Liverpool first and second eleven already made that’s why he won. So he should keep his analysis to himself. His major singing of both ekitike and writz did nothing also.

Liverpool got lucky yesterday, they dud nothing of significance from open play but they are being praised as of they battered Arsenal.
This is why I despise everything to do with the English football media and writers.

👍 ken1945. Arne had a cohesive team of successful and vastly experienced players those ages and above when he arrived.
And Mik had a team who won him his only Cup within 6 months, instead of nurturing them he dismantled the team, spent over a billion and cannot win the Carabao cup, let aside the EPL or UCL.
Everybody is missing the point that we were boring to watch and could not score a goal.
Nobody would have commented bad if we went down 4-3 or 3-2. Its worrisome that we cannot score a goal nor we looked like scoring one.
Slot inherited a team which finished below Arsenal for two seasons running. They even missed champions league in one of them.
But Arteta apologists eyes are blind to that, unsurprisingly.
Some will stoop so low to deny the man deserved credit he earned. Had it been Arteta who inherited that Liverpool team, the apologists would have said he inherited the worst squad ever.

Well we will see at the end of the season, who had the best season. Both teams need to win big. Arsenal because the haven’t and Liverpool because they have made 3 huge signings and need to follow up. Slot has made a massive call getting rid off Diaz, without replacement. And will not getting Ghehi, come back to haunt them. Game on!!!!!!
Liverpool has lots of elderly players and their average squad age are not much younger than ours. We had the youngest squad in the league one or two years ago. When Slot is opening his mouth he has an agenda and I don’t care about his opinions. Liverpool are clever with their recruitment policy and they are clever to sell their players for big money, and we have something to learn.
Correct me where wrong. How it’s worked out on fair play rules, Liverpool don’t get all that money counted from the big sales, you only get all the money if you grew the player yourself from seed. Harvey Elliot, with very high ceiling of potential, maybe even sacrificed at last moment so Liverpool can make fair play rules?
Another way it works, where you can’t just go out and spend whatever money it takes on whatever you want window after window – rules that certainly hamstrung Arsenal business in period after purchasing Rice – the accounting cut off is three yearly, so clubs meticulously plan their transfer spending years in advance. If a £125M opportunity suddenly presents itself unplanned and not for the part of squad that needs investment far more as part of plan, and you go for it, it has repercussions in your coming windows. I suspect Havertz wasn’t part of carefully laid plans, and also had impact on the actual plans in the following windows.
For all their millions spent, Liverpool seems to have left themself short of depth in key areas – both attacking wide positions, centreback, and holding midfield. You can say Etike can play wide left as he has played there, but stats show he hasn’t played there much.
Arsenal pulled out of Isak chase ages ago, calling him over priced for what you get, and far too injury prone. I agree with that, I’ve been saying it for like ever, in terms of being a huge injury risk of missing so much of a season including many crunch matches, Liverpool have gone all in on that risk to manage. Isak might not play much over the next two or three seasons. It won’t come as a shock, it’s a known risk he’s a sick note player.
Also, Isak is a 9, not false 9. Liverpool are now tied into a 9 system, rather than the predominately false 9 that won them the title – and I’m sure the plan had been to use Wurzl a lot as false 9. That may sound trivial at first glance, but is it?
Learn something from them? I think they may have been very stupid in this window, certainly paying over the right price for everything they’ve signed – that’s how it was done so quick. Maybe they should have used Trivalgo,
