Everyone has been complaining that Arsenal do not win our fair share of trophies any more, but for once Arsene Wenger has made the right signings this year and he is adamant that we now have the squad to aim for every single trophy available this season, including the League Cup.
“Our challenge is to compete for everything starting tomorrow in the League Cup against Reading.” Wenger said. “We need to fight for absolutely everything. We have a squad for the first time in five or six years that is more mature and better equipped to face the challenge for all the targets.”
We certainly have an excellent backup squad and some great youth players if we remain clear of too many injuries, bu tour only problem is when our FA Cup and League commitments interfere with our Champions League games.
So far Wenger has refused to rotate much, but as the season goes on he will have to start using the whole squad, even for some League games, if we don’t want to risk our top players burning out. In fact it may have been sensible to have rotated a bit more against Middlesbrough this week to introduce some fresh legs on the pitch.
We have Olivier Giroud coming back, tonight hopefully, and we also have Lucas Perez who has been used sparingly but has impressed when called upon. We now have Carl Jenkinson available, and he will be given a chance to impress this evening. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could do with some more game time, and we also should have Aaron Ramsey back in the squad in the next week.
With a fullsquad we definitely have enough talent to compete on all fronts, but first of all we need to convince Wenger to rotate more….
