Arsenal and Liverpool going head-to-head over yet another star attacking midfielder

It would appear that Arsenal and Liverpool are once again after another foreign star midfielder. Three years ago Arsenal snatched Alexis Sanchez from the Reds after Arsene Wenger persuaded him to move to London instead of Merseyside, and last summer both clubs were  fighting over Thomas Lemar, a competition that is expected to continue either in January or next summer. Recent rumours are suggesting that Liverpool have moved ahead in that race.

Now it appears that they are both aiming to sign the Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos, who despite being signed by the Spanish giants just last summer from Real Betis, has now been told that he can look for a new club in the January transfer window. Ceballos cost was a very cheap €18 million for an extremely promising 21 year-old, and he actually looked like he was beefed up on anabolic steroids like Testosterone Enanthate Rotexmedica when he scored both goals on his debut in September, in a 2-1 win over Deportivo.

But it would appear that the Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane was not involved in buying Ceballos and didn’t really fancy him, so he has only appeared in five more League games for Madrid in the following months and is not thought to be rated by his new manager.

The latest news is that the Spanish paper Diario Gol say his representative has held talks with both Arsenal and Liverpool over a possible loan deal for the rest of this season with an option for a permanent move in the summer. Do Arsenal fans think this would be a good deal for the club? And who could he replace in the starting line-up?

  1. …and the saga begins. I hope it will not be a window without mention Benzema’s name. We all know that Ceballos he will not come to us. I’m sure he doesn’t want to play WBL.

  2. We definitely need central midfielders. It’s our biggest weakness. We need two actually. A creative midfielder like Cazorla/Rosicky and a holding/defensive midfielder. Xhaka was a waste of £35 million and Coquelin/Eleny aren’t good enough to start.

Ceballos is young and promising but we need an established, experienced midfielder like Goretzka, Seri, Nainggolan, Guyeye, Krychowiak etc.

  3. I would go as far as say that we should avoid players from spain for now, and target german and french players

  4. We should be aiming to sign 28-29 year olds. That way if they turn out to be good and then when they don’t renew their contract it is irrelevant.

  5. Lemar and Ceballos are not the answer to our problem.Lemar is not because he’s not good enough while Ceballos is clearly not what we need.Honestly speaking since we’ve put ourselves into this situation I’d have preferred both Sanchez and Ozil to leave.Sanchez because he wants out and Ozil because he’s inconsistent and to me not worth his salary.A lot of people are too plastic and gullible with some of our players’ percormances.
We also need to.sell some players so as to make way for the good one’s.I hope Mertesacker,Giroud,Xhaka,Sanchez,Ozil and Walcott won’t be with us next seaaon.

      1. They all need to go along with Xhaka,Walcott and Giroud. We need new quality faces and a proper system to go with.

  6. Maybe Ceballos is good, but I feel Arsenal need players that can penetrate the opponent’s defense. Players like Salah, Mane, Mbappe, Sane, Sterling, Chamberlain, etc.

For central midfielder, I prefer players that can produce more touches and have high workrate like Barcelona midfielders. Players like Sergi Roberto, Rafinha, Denis Suarez, etc.

  7. Bergkamp is available and could do a season as attacking mid, having just been sacked by Overmars at Ajax! Just saying…….

  8. We dnt need anybody in midfield – we have Ramsey!
He ll be top top signing ones he comes back from his injury time.
We let Fabregas go to Chelsea and Ox to Liverpool cos we have Ramsey… pardon… we have Wenger.

  9. So 3 Jan signings is what I am asking santa for.
    Mahrez, Carvalho and VVD.

    2 for the summer:
    Fekir and Kondogbia

    Team next season 4231
    Debuchy(Bellerin)/Chambers(Mustafi)/VVD(Kos)/Sead(Monreal)
    Wilshere(AMN)/Carvalho(Kondogbia)
    Mahrez(Nelson)/Ozil(Ramsey)/Fekir(Welbeck)
    Lacazette(Nketiah)

  10. “Cheap” and “Promising” eh? Sounds right up our street.

Would much rather have somebody “Expensive” and “Proven” though.

  11. We all know about Liverpool’s famous Spion Kop but did you know that it was Arsenal who had the original Spion Kop. It goes back to our days as Woolwich Arsenal and to our old Manor ground at Plumstead in 1800’s. At it’s height the old Woolwich Arsenal arms factory had 125000 soldiers and civillians working there and it’s where Woolwich Arsenal FC support came from. It was the returning soldiers from the South African Boer War that gave a very steep bank behind one of the goals the nickname, “the Spion Kop”, named after a famous battle appertaining to that war
