Arsenal should go in for wantaway £19m Real Madrid defender?

If the reports coming out of Spain are true, then Arsenal should already be on the phone to Real Madrid and Arsene Wenger should be ringing up silent Stan Kroenke and Ivan Gazidis to get them to release a bit more money for the January transfer business.

And it is not as if £19 million is all that much anyway, especially when it is for a player like the France international centre back Rafael Varane. But that is what Real Madrid are looking for in order to release the talented young defender, according to a Daily Express report.

The 21-year old has apparently fallen out of favour with the Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti and the Italian has already proved that he is not scared to dump players that either do not fit into his plan or simply will not do as he tells them.

Whatever the reason, £19 million seems like a bargain for such a player as Varane. He is already a very good defender but is so young that you would only expect him to keep improving for the next five years or so. And he is not just a bruiser either. His technical ability makes him just the sort of player that Wenger likes.

So if this transfer rumour is true, I expect Arsenal to make him the top transfer target for January, even if it does mean a transfer battle with our big spending Premier League rivals Man United and Chelsea….

How can anyone believe that real madrid will sell Varane for that sum? at 21, he is already one of the best centerback in the world. He is worth at least twice that amount

    1. Budd says:

Young defenders usually go for a similar amount of money. Varane is an exceptional player but couldn’t stop noticing that when he plays for France he’s not so good as when he plays for Madrid. Which makes me think that he looks good when he’s having around beasts like Ramos, Pepe or Marcello. Varane alone won’t solve our problems, we need experienced defenders, someone like Hummels/Howedes to name just a few.

      1. muda says:

But he’s an upgrade to per mertesacker, to Varane along side Kosielny and your CB will locked. Did you say experience?? Deburchy-Boss-Gibbs are experienced players so putting Varane with his work load, fastness, aggression, tackles and headers can only be good. Remember a 19 years chambers was alright at CB.

Guys, once there was a man who never gave up on the truth about Wenger, he would always sound the truth out loud. His assessment of Arsenal was always correct and he had facts to solidify his pints at all times. His name: Adam Kemp.

I don’t know what happened to him (I personally think the A*Bz must have done something funny to that icon of truth), but in loving memory of my beloved Kemp, I personally shall be posting in the comment’ section some of his old articles which he posted on this site.

    Spill-over comment……

I read the other day how De Boer had advised Van Dijk against coming to us cuz he feels we aren’t a competitive nor ambitious club. Also read Reus won’t really wanna come to us neither, cuz we seem considerably a step down. As for Alexis, so many are already sympathising with him for joining a clueless manager at a “purposeless” club.

Many have said Ozil can’t shine under Arsene and it’s f*cking true. I mean, do you honestly see Ozil sparkling on the wings thriving with guys like Flamini and Arteta as DMs behind him?

People are rejoicing that Giroud is back, they have already forgotten how wasteful he used to be, how he would waste every scoring chance created by Ozil and others, how he just can’t dribble or shoot, and how Wenger would hardly substitute him (O-G) even when he’s almost fainting from fatigue on the pitch.

Wenger should either leave or just leave.

    1. Budd says:

De Boer doesn’t give a flying fu ck where Van Dijk will play tomorrow, you talk out of your arse as usual.

      1. KickAssFan says:

Ahahahah! It’s amazing how ur reply my a*s comments. U sure do luv de a*s tinz.

“…the Italian has already proved that he is not
scared to dump players that either do not fit
into his plan or simply will not do as he tells
them.” Can the same be said of Arsene?

If Varane comes, would he be played in his natural position? Will Wenger even play him instead of anyone else that’s been under-performing??

    1. jermaineBryan says:

He is young and French after all. he would also be ready to challenge per next season. Would be a great signing when considering Bilbao wants 30m for laporte.

  4. SoOpa AeoN says:

great!……. We always go for the wantaways, NOT WHAT WE WANT …..just great!

    1. Lethal Prince 9 says:

So what, they have been good for us. And helping our team though.

    2. KickAssFan says:

@Soopa, I luv good “wantaways”, Varane is very good, much better than the German snail (if u ask me).

      1. SoOpa AeoN says:

@ kickassfan ……… U are right bro ….. Its versatility over snai’-likedness anyday….. Just that i really hate the word “wantaway” … U knw what i mean ….

Go Wenger, any excuse will do,we don’t care.Homesick for France, strain on the marriage, had a row with the yank or lost your mojo.just resign ASAP.
oh and thanks for the good times and shut the door behind you.

    1. KickAssFan says:

      @Cheeter, got me laffin badly.

Hey, but he shouldn’t shut the door behind him, Klop is at the entrance.

      1. Tatek Girma says:

I don’t think Klop is as intelligent as Wenger though he is more energetic and aggressive and love to play a pressing football. Personally I am a fan of Klop for his playing style and success achieved so far and love to see him at Arsenal after Wenger. However, I will not choose him over Wenger at the moment until he is retired. Believe or not regardless of a recent trophy drought, which has its own reason, Wenger is a complete manager working with principles instead of emotion unlike others.
Therefore, We shall be more realistic as a fan of Arsenal and provide our genuine support to the coaching staffs and players. Remember that some people may consider the gold available at hand as a stone due to emotion.

        1. KickAssFan says:

I stopped at where u said “I don’t think Klop is as intelligent as

  6. SaveArsenal says:

Does anyone on here actually have faith in Wenger to get the job done?
We have seen players openly voicing dissent in the press, we have heard from good authority, Ian Wright, that the coaching staff are not happy.
We can see the players frustration on the pitch.
They need the guidance of a new manager, it would revive these players and allow so many of them to improve.

    1. davidnz says:

Yes Wenger will get the job done.
      Arsenal will make top 4.
      That is the Arsenal goal.
Any thing else is a bonus.

    2. KickAssFan says:

      @SaveArsenal, well said.

  7. davidnz says:

    Wow Varane 19 mill.
    According to Madrid newspaper
Stupido, Real want to swap Varane
for Mertesacker. They also want to trade
Bale and Ronaldo for Diaby and Sanogo.
Wenger is playing hard ball saying ‘drid will
need to include Benzema and he will release
    Campbell too.

    1. Usmanov says:

      El Stupido, David!
The real name is ÉL STÙPIDO!
Next time, please get the name right, will ya?
Since we are discussing the papers, may I ask, what has The Daily Fourth been saying about our title chances this year? “Slim as an anorexic model on a weight-watcher’s diet”? Yeah, I know that line like I know my name!

  8. Invincibles49 says:

Varane is good. No doubt. But he plays with top class defenders and a top class midfield in front. I have seen him playing for France and there he looks like he has still a lot to learn. We need an experienced defender. Also we don’t have time to allow the new defender settle in to the ways of PL. He should be able to start straight away. So my choice would be experienced and PL experienced. But then again, its difficult to get your wish come true in January. January is mostly for ad hoc transfers or patch up work not for the core signings which Wenger never understood.

  9. Zulu-boy-SA says:

No He will do a Kim Kallstrom, sign an injured defender that will be match fit in last 30 days of the season, such incompetence for someone who earns 8 million.

  10. muda says:

I was asking myself now its the time for “adam kamp” to shine, but to my surprise he is absent. Where is Adam kamp?????????????????????????

  11. sonny says:

NOT GONNA HAPPEN.COM! even if you wish….

  12. Justsoccerfan says:

Just read a news that wenger is in the top 5 to be sack manager.

    1. Spur
    2. Man c
    3. Aston villa
    4. Qpr
    5. Arsenal

  13. Ronny331 says:

Yes please I rate varane highly and would love to see him partner kos. Chambers back up cb, (per 4th cb, sold or use him as a goal post in training! ).
