Arsenal captain to get Ozil working for Arsenal again?

Whether or not you agree with the much talked about theory that Mesut Ozil has not being doing enough for Arsenal, be it running, tracking back or simply scoring and assisting goals, I think we can all agree that an in form Ozil pulling the strings will help the Gunners to perform well and get the right results this season.

It is hard to say whether or not the German is committed to the cause as he has been out of the side for some time. His cameo off the bench at Watford was his only club action apart from just seven minutes at the end of the West Brom clash in over a month.

The last game Ozil started was the win over Bournemouth just after the first international break and whether he starts against Red Star Belgrade tomorrow evening or Everton on Sunday could well depend on his attitude, but his fellow countryman and World Cup winner and also his captain at Arsenal could be the man to make sure he is giving his all at club level, as a Sky Sports report explains.

Per Mertesacker said, “Yes. Everyone has to do his job 100 per cent otherwise they are not eligible to be on the pitch.

“As long as everyone understands that then we are fine and you won’t get problems from me. If I have a different feeling then it would be addressed.

“I have no problems with players in their final year, that includes me as well. The only issue I’ve got is if they’re not fully committed to what we’re doing here.

“Even if you’re in your final year you have to prove yourself every single day, in order to stay here or to get another contract somewhere else.

“A lot of people focus on being on long-term contracts, but that’s not needed. I don’t feel a dip in commitment; we’re in a good front with those who have their contracts expiring.

“It’s similar to me. I’m staying at the club definitely, which makes it a little bit different, but we want to be successful here and everyone is committed to that.”

The BFG has been seen berating Ozil on the pitch before so I am sure he would have no hesitation doing so behind closed doors and I would not like to get on the wrong side of the giant defender. Perhaps that is just what our play maker needs.

  1. “Everyone has to do his job 100% otherwise they are not eligible to be on the pitch” Jesus Christ I’m surprised we haven’t been playing with 5 men every week then!!!!

  2. I’m getting fed up hearing our players talking about our problems, and how we’ll respond, because we NEVER respond! We’ll do what we always do, and respond in the short term by going on a little unbeaten run, scraping wins against rubbish opponents, which then confuses people into thinking we’re a top team again. Then we’ll get a good spanking by a top opponent, or two, and we’re back to square one YET AGAIN! Then just rinse, and repeat!

  3. I’m sick of this Özil saga. The reality is that he hasn’t done anything this season to warrant a pay rise yet he wants to be one of the highest paid players in the PL. I really hope he leaves in January so we can talk about something else more important.

  4. Is it still wise to keep Sanchez and Ozil with their half hearted approach to the club? I am tired of Arsenal’s conservative posture on transfers and wages though.

  5. Ozil is a top quality player who shines around top players; he feels tricked and waisted his time hoping to see some top players come on board for years; same for Sanchez…Club told him they will surround him with top player, build team around him..;Nothing going on! We tired of it this scam of this buisness entreprise and owners. Let’s get real, we being jerked like fools…There’s plenty of players we can buy for years, we cheap..

  6. Blah, blah, blah… Ozil’s biggest fan here, but I’m getting sick and tired of this whole “not committed to the cause thing”. We can only speculate what’s going on behind closed doors, and whether Ozil is really struggling with injuries. BUT… if I’m the captain, or better yet MANAGER of the Arsenal FC, and I see in training or in games that someone is not pulling their weight, and not giving their 100% all the time, I’m benching that player to send a message to everyone else, plain and simple.
