Many reasons to go for Scott yeah. Seems like a natural long term rotation option for Rice. Either would be a great addition though, Guimaraes probably still has 3 seasons in him at the highest level in the Prem, so amortized 80m is not that outrageous. Scott would be better value for money for sure, which will be a major consideration for Berta.
Berta doesn’t overcommit to one player during negotiations. And he also likes to use smokescreens to drive prices down on the other option. So whichever way it ends up going we’ll land a great CM for the coming seasons.

I don’t think anyone is seriously considering selling Ødegaard right now. He has a unique profile for us, and there are very few elite-level players who could replace him. Plus, he’s back into top form.

We have a squad problem, too many foreigners or non homegrown, so any foreigners who come in, one has to go. We are on or close to the limit. Would rather keep Odegaard and sell Zubimendi. But would rather not sign Guimarez for stupid money either. Not sure, he is worth it.
Reggie, we are fine with non homegrown players. At the moment with the keeper we signed from Leeds and the Greek winger we have 14 foreigners.
I read, it was a problem with one of the associations, prem and europe have different rules. We can not sign foreigners without losing one. We are close to being in breach of one, bearing in mind we have also just got in two more.
I have just counted 18 plus 2 new signings.

so last season would have not need to be registered in the official squad for Prem because he was 21

Mosquera was always considered a foreign player, as he was to old to qualify as homegrown when we signed him last season.

The facts are we are running close the the line, especially in europe. If we sell the “deadwood” and bring foreign players in, we will be in breach. And most of our “deadwood” whoever they are, are foreign. We have to be careful who we bring in because it will take us over the limit. Especially, when we are linked with so many foreigners. I’d be happy for us to sell Odegaard now – suspect his world cup performances have increased his value/desirability temporarily and so now might be a good time. Main issue is replacing with someone better. There are some options within the squad but none that stand out as clearly better or ready to step into the role immediately. I think guimares and Scott are slightly different types of player, but maybe they could be used in his position in the team to greater effect? Only say that because I don’t find Odegaard’s attacking play to be impressive for an attacking midfielder (despite his obvious talent), and while those mentioned tend to be more box to box types (assume that’s the case with Scott but not sure), I don’t think they’re particularly worse from that perspective.
I think a lot of the fan discussion comes down to one of three things.
1. His performance, injuries and metrics over the last 2 years. Which is fair, he’s not been at his best.
2. A misunderstanding of what Ødegaard actually offers us as a playmaker / press leading midfielder – and how his role has evolved.
3. A personal preference for a more direct AM, rather than a conductor type (like a Rogers, Palmer or Musiala).
When you look at everything together, similar players to Ødegaard are along the lines of a Bernardo Silva, Wirtz, Szoboszlai, Pedri, or Arda Guler.
These are the most obvious plug-and-play replacements for him. Longer term, younger players like Ibrahim Maza at Leverkusen maybe (an offer was submitted for him). We’re not getting Pedri or Szoboslai, and I can’t see fans getting super excited about the others right now (Silva is past it anyway!). We’d probably have to evolve the team beyond just replacing him.
I don’t see him as a conductor though – players like pedri (the purest example from those you listed) are usually deeper, whereas Odegaard plays high up the pitch, and the big frustration with him is his lack of real precision with the final pass and shot. That’s what stops him being top class.
I do see his impact in the press, I know he’s very good at it and it does make a difference, but it’s not enough for me. I think this is why we’ve been linked with olmo before – despite being unrealistic imo, he does have both the strong understanding of how to press and a real precision and cleverness when he has the ball in attack – I think that’s what we want from Odegaard, but at this point he’s failed to deliver for too long imo. Good opportunity to improve the team, I think.
I mean if we could get Olmo I’d be all for it too.
I just don’t think Ødegaard’s so bad that we need to replace him and build around a new AM’s playing style and new tactics, and there is no obvious replacement right now.

Yes if Guimares arrives Odegaard should leave. Injury wise Arsenal couldn’t be a lucky spot for Odegaard. I personally want Rice to be captain.
If Guimares arrives, Zubimendi should go. Bruno and Rice both far better than Zubimendi.
I know last year was his first year in PL, however
1. Other clubs sussed him out pretty quickly. Zubi doesn’t like getting pressed, doesn’t dribble opponents and drive forward consistently, looks more comfortable playing sideways and back passes.
Once Zubi got sussed out, his form fell off a cliff. I’m not buying he was gassed and tired by Christmas; not an athlete at that level.
MLS showed what could be when he partnered Rice last year; that combo clicked.
Zubimendi should be the one to make way; he was overhyped imho.
