Arsenal creeping up the table, despite the doom-mongers

If you read many different Arsenal blogs (not just JustArsenal) you would think that the Gunners are self-imploding and getting close to the relegation zone after changing Arsene Wenger for Unai Emery, but in fact the reality is completely different and we are currently one point away from the Top Four with an easy-ish home game against strugglers Southampton today.

Added to that we have Chelsea and Man City facing each other in the League Cup so will need to rearrange their fixtures, while the team ahead of us, Man United, have a formidable task in trying to stop Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side and are very likely to drop at least two points.

So by this time tomorrow we could find ourselves back into Fourth Place, with the added bonus of moving within seven points of thirs placed Tottenham. The Spuds are feeling the loss of Kane and Son and were ignomiously beaten by Burnley last night, and we all know that are famous for imploding towards the end of the season…

This can only bode well for Arsenal, and if Liverpool can arrest the impetus of Ole’s Red Devils today they may start to question themselves as well, especially after losing to PSG last week as well.

Our other nearest challengers, Chelsea, are (as always) in turmoil if they are not top of the League, and the rumours are rife that Sarri is set to be sacked if they lose tomorrows League Cup Final.

Whereas the only people criticising Emery seem to be the Arsenal fans! But the fact is that, now it looks like there is no rift between the boss and Ozil, and with a much-reduced injury list, there is no reason why we cannot carry on quietly climbing up the table.

Get behind the team and we will conquer!

  1. Hey Sam, agree on most things, except the foolish quote: “The Spuds are feeling the loss of Kane and Son and were ignomiously beaten by Burnley last night.”

Spurs were doing great without Kane, while in the game you mention both Kane and Son played, and they lost, so while it’s not their fault, your quote makes no sense.

As for us, the main problem will be fatigue in games following the Europa League. If we had gone out, we would actually have a good shot at top 4, but we will have issues from having to play too many first-team regulars on Thursdays, which Chelsea won’t have to as their backups are better. And ManU will be out of the CL after 1 more game…

  2. The loss of Kane and Son ? Both played yesterday and Kane scored! There will be no easy-ish games in the PL as Burnley proved yesterday. Anyway let’s hope we get the 3 points today whatever the score ?

    1. ?? and brilliant it was too! Good old Barnes (I didn’t mind him being a WWE wrestler yesterday! ?) and did you see Poch wasn’t very happy with Mike Dean after the game? I thought Dean was a spud?! ?
      It’s match day John!

      1. Haha yeah I saw the highlights Sue, I wasn’t sure what the melee was about tbh ? if Totts lose to Chelsea and us providing we win today and Wednesday the gap could be 1 point from 10 in a week ? it sure is Sue is the son in law coming over for the big game ?

        1. Let’s just put it down to Poch not liking losing! Bet he thought once Kane was back they’d never lose again!! All joking aside I think it was some dodgy decision (!) hahaha!
Well we’ve got a lot to keep everything crossed about then ?
No he’s watching United with one of his mate’s! I’m hoping for a 0-0 bore draw… us to win & City to thrash Chelsea… I don’t want too much hey?!!

          1. Yeah well that’s tough luck and I hope he gets a touchline ban for his behaviour if he doesn’t that’s smells of corruption! I remember Wenger putting his hand on A.Taylors shoulder media made out Wenger almost killed him got a 4 game ban ? haha what game you watching Sue ? City will win 3-0 and sarri will argue with Guardiola and rant about Emery and how his Chelsea team are ahead of Arsenal in the table ?

            1. I like your way of thinking John! He should do… have to keep an eye on that!
Arsenal aren’t on Sky.. so will watch United (unless of course Sanchez plays!) Haha it should be a good game though, there’s a lot riding on it!
3-0 Will do just fine ? yes Sarri will have a meltdown & probably choke on his gum & quite possibly find himself unemployed tomorrow!

              1. It’s just as well the stress of PL football is gonna put the old boy back on the fags ? so you’ll not watch it if Sanchez is playing? ? Palace have become an excellent away team much better than us ? just watching point break the old one killing time until the games ?

                1. It breaks my heart seeing him play for United John ? don’t laugh!! I can’t help disliking United ? I will probably watch some of it.. ?
Was surprised Palace won by that many.. they’re doing well. I bet Puel is sweating now….just like Sarri ?
I liked that film John… good old Patrick Swayze! I watched The hate u give the other day, that was good!

                  1. Yeah Sue and Just noticed a Piper Malibu plane in it ? oh never heard of that ? yeah they beat City away and gave Liverpool a tough time at anfield. Puel is hanging by a thread he’ll be gone soon ? I don’t like him Sue I began to dislike him after that Bournemouth game ? haha I have a feeling Alex Ferguson is really managing them he’s the puppet master and solskjaer is the puppet ?

                    1. Once again I reckon you’re spot on about OGS being the puppet!! I bet he’s on the whiskey as we speak?
Have to say they’re doing fine without Sanchez, so he probably won’t start – he just starts against us!! Urgh!!!

                    2. So this time next year he’s gonna have a big red nose ? yeah start and score ? watching dances with wolves now only 3 hours to kick off ?

                    3. Haha well I wanted to say that ??
                      That’s a long film… you’ll be asleep by the time 2.05 is here!! ???
Just put Splash on, you know you want to! ??

                    4. Splash ?? haha I haven’t seen DWW for a long time it’s pretty good though ? coincidentally the money pit was on sky the other day I didn’t see it though the end credits were coming up when I flicked it on ? I hear Monchi is joining Arsenal that’s good news ?

                    5. Oh no I bet you were gutted!!! Damn it ?
Yeah I saw that, I don’t know much about him if I’m honest… but at least Sven is being replaced!
Haha yes he’ll be phoning Abramovich to let him know he’s available oi oi ??

                    6. Apparently he discovered a lot of talent including Sergio Ramos, Reyes, Rakitic, Diego capel and the new Roma stars etc and has great working relationship with Emery I’m all for it not that my input is important ? no Sue that’s what K*di is for ? it’s written in the stars that ?

                    7. Yeah he knows how to stop Salah in his tracks ? a lot of people actually think Ramos is a real Madrid graduate when he’s actually a Sevilla one ? Monchi discovered the beast too, remember his 4 goals at anfield ? haha only to zero people ???? DWW is over and I’m still awake ?

                    8. Good old Ramos, his jib was done that night!
Good old Baptista…. those were the days when we’d win at Anfield!!
                      To zero people ??
Jeez that was quick!! I’m amazed you’re still with it…. 2 hours to kill…..

                    9. And scored 6 and even had room to miss a pen ? yeah but if I’d stuck to the same channel I’d be asleep the diary of Anne Frank is even too much for me ? guess it’s rocky for the next 2 hours ? ah you liked it too ? haha yes ?

                    10. Well you won’t be watching films this time next week…. you’ll be starring in your very own ? high on something & telling everyone you’re Dirk Diggler ??

                    11. Lol no Dirk digger impersonations I’ll act accordingly ? well Sue I’ll let you get on and enjoy the football, let’s hope we win today and we go again Wednesday ??

        2. I think the best scenario for us is when our rivals play each other a draw would be the best result, both teams dropping 2 points no winners, man u have to lose today, also chelsea need to keep sarri we saw what happened when Maureen got sacked:(

  3. I like the optimism but let’s be realistic arsenal have always fouled to step up and win games when the opportunity is there to capitalise on our rivals failure. We always struggle under pressure. Winning against Southampton today is NOT a foregone conclusion.

Also we need to stop worrying what other teams do. What if man u win today and we lose. That 1 point becomes 4

    Just saying

  4. What’s the need of being temporary 4th? I thought we had done away with Wenger’s cup with his departure.
Get behind the team? Yes I agree as a supporter. The players should also step up and be consistent.
Wishing us a good victory today.

  5. I believe top 4 depends upon our performance against ManU and Spuds.
If we manage to win those 2 games then top 4 will almost become a certainty. And yes we can win those 2 games,we almost beat ManU at old trafford this season. Though they are a different team now,we have the home advantage. We defeated Spuds 4-2 so we can do it again.

    1. That’ll only be the case if we can win the games we should be winning, like the Sou game. Lose an easier home game and drop some points away points, then all of a sudden utd possibly wont even have to beat us. I agree with earlier comment that these games can be tricky when we’re trying to capitalize, fans all look ahead to the big games v top six in our run in, and before you know it we take our eye off the prize and are duly punished.

  6. Completely agree Sam P. Arsenal are still in a promising position. We should all get behind the team and leave our criticism for Emery after we get the whole picture (the season ends). This time last season we were banished to 6th place without a chance of CL qualification. To be in contention now shows theres been a massive improvement in a small amount of time and that’s extremely promising.

    1. I agree totally, esp about the hugely unfair and hysterical and unwarranted criticism of Emery. TBH, many people on here need to think first and write only after having thought. They need to engage their brains and show their loyalty to the club they CLAIM to support. I believe a lot of them are merely fair weather fans and demand instant success and silverware and have no REAL concept of what true support ACTUALLY IS!

I disagree with your implied comment that it will be OK to start criticising Emery at the end of this season. THAT would also be premature, IMO. Sober and sensible realistic assessment of the basket case squad and esp the “defence” that Emery and the new regime had to inherit should make these overreactionary types feel a sense of shame at their comments.
