There is no doubt that Alexis Sanchez has not been at the top of his game lately, and this fact is underlined by the stat that he has only hit the back of the net once in his last eleven starts for Arsenal. He is still running around like the Duracell bunny but is hat enough to justify his place in the team or should he be given a well-deserved break?
Arsene Wenger has revealed that this is exactly his dilemma, and told reporters: “He’s a bit fatigued,”
“Also, because he is in a position where he has scored less, he wants to force his game and then he is more included in physical battles.
“Maybe goalscoring is on his mind so he wants to do too much and he wants to force his game.
“I’m tempted to rest him at some stage, I have been for a long time. It’s not that he won’t let me, I will decide that!
“It’s just that every game now is so important, you always have a hesitation to do it.”
I know that we need three points from every game now to keep the pressure on our opponents, but surely Wenger won’t have an easier game in which to give Alexis a break than today, especially with the extra-crucial meeting with Liverpool next weekend, but, then again, there will be a whole seven days gap after the Newcastle game for Sanchez to recharge his batteries!
So, if it was down to you, would you stick Alexis on the bench this afternoon or put him on from the start?

Yes. He most definitely deserves it as he has been the hardest working player for us. Played kst matches and given his all in each match.
More importantly, he needs the rest. His play has gone down in recent weeks and rest could do him good. Also players need rest to give his bones and muscles some rest.
Also Chile plays Brazil and Iran next week so he won’t have rest before he comes back.
He doesn’t want rest. He is a fighter but needs it for his own good.
