The Gunners are widely expected to focus on player sales in the final few weeks of the transfer window, and Jakub Kiwior could be among those facing a potential departure.
With the new Premier League season now less than two weeks away, Arsenal have quickly assembled an elite squad, spending over £200 million this summer. Six signings have been made so far, including the long-awaited arrival of a new number nine.
Before the Gunners kick off their top-flight campaign on 17th August, they are set to play two pre-season friendlies at the Emirates. However, one player who may not be at the club much longer is Jakub Kiwior.
Kiwior’s future remains open as clubs circle
According to Fabrizio Romano, the future of the Poland international remains “open”, with multiple clubs still showing interest. Although Mikel Arteta would prefer to keep the versatile defender, a proposal from Portugal was reportedly rejected last month.
Ultimately, the final decision could rest with the player, who is believed to be keen on more regular playing time. Despite being linked to several Serie A clubs earlier in the summer, speculation has cooled in recent weeks.
Kiwior remains a valuable squad option. His strong performances late last season, following Gabriel’s injury, were a reminder of his quality. Yet Arsenal are preparing for all outcomes.
Romano has also reported that the Gunners have made contact regarding Rennes centre-back Jérémy Jacquet. The 20-year-old recently signed a new contract and is not for sale, but Arsenal remain keen should Kiwior or Oleksandr Zinchenko depart.
What’s next for Kiwior?
Since joining from Spezia in January 2023, Kiwior has made 68 appearances for Arsenal, scoring three goals. While he has yet to cement a place in the starting line-up, his ability to play across the backline is highly valued by Arteta and his coaching staff.
With time running out in the window, Arsenal will weigh up all options carefully. If the right offer arrives, should the club sell Kiwior?

Strangely enough, the late season injury to Gabriele could end up being a blessing in disguise. Gabriele playing in the UCL against PSG is not likely imo to have made enough of a difference in the tie (even though he was missed most of all I believe in set plays). Kiwior wants to leave for first team playing time anyway and showcasing him so recently may have increased his market value.
Let’s hope so. A sale (any sale, really) would be welcome after all the purchases.
In view of the fact that Calafiori is clearly injury prone, i would not sell Kwior until a deal is done for a suitable replacement.Is there not a good case for selling Calafiori and replacing him with a quality left back?
I would agree with you on Kiwior depending on his response to having to stay rather than leave. Calafiori’s ’23/’24 season was virtually injury free but it would seem that he has once again become susceptible to injuries. I think you’re probably right about there being a good case for selling but then again I never thought that he would be our LB solution to begin with.
On an encouraging note, I read where Heinze has been working diligently with MLS on his defensive skills in training.
Regarding Calafiori, I wonder what fee Arsenal would get for a player who is “clearly injury prone”? If we know it, potential buyers must know it as well. Also, would he want to leave having been at Arsenal such a short time? Questions, questions.
Good point as it would lower his value; however, with a young player who can still be seen as having big potential, the on again off again injury history may not be seen to be as significant by some buyers.
I don’t think Arteta wants to sell Calafiori, especially how after he proved himself as a more than adequate replacement for Gabriel towards the end of last season. I know we’ve also just signed Mosquera but there is the possibility of Saliba going to RM which is another reason to keep.
When he is fit and plays at LCB Calafiori is superior to Kwior and possibly as good as Gabriel in terms of ball skills and driving forward.However unless he can stay fit he will never fulfil his undoubted potential.
Personally Kwior should stay, he’s always been committed whenever called upon, he’s a reliable player more than Zinchenko.
