Arsenal have been linked with a surprise move for Cristian Romero after the defender reportedly told Tottenham that he wants to leave in search of a new challenge this season.
Romero has been at Spurs since 2021 and has established himself as one of the top defenders in the Premier League during that time. Tottenham would prefer to keep him, but the situation has become uncertain as the club begins a new chapter under a manager who wants only fully committed players.
The defender has therefore been tipped to leave during this transfer window, with several clubs showing interest in securing his signature.
Arsenal enter the race for Romero
Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid have both been pushing to sign Romero, but according to the Metro, Arsenal have now joined the race as the Gunners consider him one of the top players who could strengthen their squad.
The men at the Emirates are continuing to improve their team this summer, and although defence remains one of their strongest areas, they are not looking to become complacent. Arsenal are keen to maintain their high standards and believe adding another quality defender could make their squad even stronger.
Romero could create a selection dilemma
Romero is regarded as one of the best defenders in England, and his arrival at Arsenal would provide serious competition for places. His quality means he could potentially challenge the established partnership of William Saliba and Gabriel in the centre of defence.
For Mikel Arteta, having three elite centre-backs available would create a positive selection challenge. Choosing between Romero, Saliba and Gabriel would give the manager multiple high-quality options when deciding his starting line-up.
Arsenal’s interest shows their desire to continue strengthening despite already having a strong defensive foundation. If Romero does leave Tottenham this summer, the Gunners could be among the clubs ready to compete for his signature and add further depth to their squad.

We should be careful who we go for. Romero is a quality defender no doubt. But his energy and emotions always give him away. We as a club are not known for “winning at all cost mentality”. He belong to the group of Caicedo and his Argentine club mate, Hernandez
I wonder why Arteta doesn’t fancy Osihmen’s style of play. With him we can be more hopefull for CL
Osimhen is better than what we have. He’s absolutely world class. But I think his attitude (especially insulting his national team coach online) is the reason no big club has signed him despite his wages being relatively low for someone of his quality
