Arsenal facing serious competition for long term target

Arsenal long term target Dayot Upamecano is back in the transfer gossip columns.

Arsenal’s failure to sign Dayot Upamecano in the summer may come back to haunt them with reports claiming that Manchester City is set to move for the French defender.

Upamecano who is just 21 has been one of Europe’s top young defenders over the past two seasons and Arsenal was reportedly interested in signing him last summer.

Their advances were rejected by RB Leipzig who was not interested in cashing in on their star man at that time.

Reports from Mirror Sports claims that the defender is now on the radar of Manchester City and Pep Guardiola could sanction a move for him in the next two months.

Manchester City has been rocked by the injury to Aymeric Laporte and has been frustrated by the performances of the unreliable duo of John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi.

Arsenal has also struggled in defence this season despite signing David Luiz in the summer. The Gunners had tried to recruit Upamecano before moving for Luiz and it is no surprise to hear they are looking to go back in for him.

Upamecano’s name is almost certain to be one of the most speculated names in the January transfer window. However, it does not follow that he will be going anywhere this winter.

He is a top-class defender and it would obviously be a major coup if Arsenal did manage to land him. But when a team with the financial clout and reputation of Man City becomes involved then it probably does not bode well for Arsenal.

  1. I think as of now we’ve poorest scouting system than any club in the league, losing caglar soyuncu for same price as Socrates and now scouting him knowing exactly will take 80m+ to price him away is madness totally, mind you mates we need to revamp entire club system starting from board members down to coasting stuffs

    1. We were not scouting him. If at all our scout was there is for the Demiral guy from Juventus. So don’t read too much iinto what media is saying. They have away of missing things up. Besides, he is not better than Holding or Bieseik we sold.

  2. Yes Soyuncu is a classic example of how poor our recruitment has been during the past 6/7 years. There have been exceptions such as Martinelli and Guendouzi but the likes of Mustafi,Socratis,Xhaka and even Torreria have been poor signings who have rarely made consistently good contributions to the team.As for Upamecano,he would be big upgrade on what we have in his position.but if Man City want him,we have no chance.
