Arsenal fans should be enjoying a quiet Deadline Day for a change

New Signings Aren’t Always The Solution by Neil Watson

With great amusement I read a statement from Jose Mourinho saying, without more signings this season will be difficult for United….that team that have spent the second most amount of money on players in recent seasons, only superceded by Citeh…..

That agents and players so blatantly now control clubs means people like Ferguson are sadly such a great loss to the beautiful game. If a player got above his station he would ship them out regardless of who they were for the sake of the common good.

Enough about United… Over the last 12 months our club had been under the media microscope, predominantly with issues relating to Sanchez and Ozil as contract rebels as well as the continuing growth of discontent amongst the fans due to Wenger’s refusal to step down and yet, 12 months on, it appears the press no longer find any negative interest in our club since, like the final scenes in The Godfather, our club has ‘taken care of business.’

With the exception of the current Ramsay situation, our ship is out of the eye of the storm and in calmer waters. We have a manager with new ideas, a relatively happy squad (from what we have seen from the pre season) and something positive to look forward to. Whereas our squad may not be as strong as Citeh’s on an individual player comparison, Unai and his recent acquisitions may just have stablized us, given us cover in specifically vulnerable areas and focused our style of play on areas where we can be more effective.

This time last season we were aware Sanchez wanted to go, that Ozil wasn’t ready to sign a new contract and Wenger had recently signed a two year extension!!! That’s one year ago….

Today, as other clubs scramble to sign players and ‘without those signings our season will be difficult’ (Mourinho), we addressed so many issues early doors and have had the benefit of most of those signings bonding over the summer so we are in better shape than most.

There’s no guarantees of how well we will do this season but you can’t argue that our ship is being steered with authority and commitment and we have no players desperate to throw themselves overboard….

Let’s enjoy deadline day and watch other clubs pay over the odds for deadwood….It reminds me of when I was young and we’d go out to a club and at ten minutes before the club closed we’d desperately look around for ANY girl to go home with….Let’s hope we can offload some of our ten to two girls….

  1. Dembele is reported as saying: “I’m staying at Barca, I’m ready to play the Super Cup…..
Note_’reported as saying’ that shows it is fabricated…it is not through…it is one of the media stuffs…….look let’s pray the wages can be agreed that’s the only stubbling block like I previously said….dembele is not a fool…he is 21 and Malcolm is younger than him…Malcolm couldn’t have agreed if he hasn’t gotten assurances for playing time…and at the age of 21 dembele can’t be competing with a younger player who is equally trusted..it is a big risk…he has to be playing regularly and he knows that…I’m sure he is watching mbappe progress.. He is not a fool…. Arsenal needs to give him what he wants but one thing is for sure arsenal is working hard to get a winger before the deadline

    1. If Dembele comes, Ozil or Mkhitaryan should go Barcelona to ease the deal, because we don’t need another tactical CAM

You can keep hoping, but I don’t think Arsenal would spend 100M+ for a young player like Dembele

    2. you’d come up with a statement to defend yourself…. It wasn’t ‘reported that’ , it was a quote from the man himself after which he said he wanted to play with Pogba so don’t just fabricate stories for us here….

I don’t bliv we have any dealings today though, even if we do I’d rather we go for a quality CB

  2. Well said Neil.Apart from Socratis,I am pleased with players recruited by Emery and in the young French guy we appear to have got a real bargain.Personally I would have kept Chambers at the expense of Mustafi but who would buy him for £25\30m? A top four position would represent a good season for Emery in his first year at the helm.

  3. I think it’s a little too soon to say the media have no negative comments to make about Arsenal. Wait until we have a bad result/performance and I bet they are all clamoring to fill column inches with their usual bile and ‘typical Arsenal’ comments!! haha

  4. Yes, the last thing I want is another panic buy

But a transfer window without a big signing is very disappointing

An explosive winger with attractive style of play is needed to keep the fans interested and to entice the new fans

  5. Me too. I would have kept Chambers. Not sure who I would sell but Chambers s our kid and his mistakes are due to lack of play time. Sell Mustafa, XHacka etc but Calum.

  6. Dembele is classed as under 21
so we could have signed him.
    But why would we?
He has produced nothing so far
and would cost a fortune to loan and absolute mega to buy.
With only 6 home grown players
we have reached our 15 non home grown maximum
if Koscielny is included in the 25… but is he?
So we only have 20 fit senior players so
could sign 4 more senior players but they have to be home grown
    Zaha? 🙂 McGuire? 🙂 🙂 Loftus Cheek :):):)
If we keep Jenkinson we can add one more non HG senior player.
    Winger/CB. Marquee surprise :):):):):):):)
Maybe the home grown rule is also why we can’t get rid of Wellbeck.
Campbell and Ospina are going ..right?…

  7. Despite the fact that not all of the last transfer windows ended well, I kinda enjoyed the excitement of the last day. This year it is all about disposing of the “deadwood” at ridiculously low prices.. I really don’t believe, we are gonna sign anyone more today and I do feel envy of the clubs who do show more signs of ambition than us, like Fuhlam, Wolves, West Ham etc..

      1. He is speaking about ambition. They will do better where us doing better will be a big struggle

        1. Chambers to fulham while Wishere and Perez to west ham…

now admin, don’t delete my comments like before just because I corrected you.

  8. If things remain like they are now then the rumours of us having only 50mil to spend where actually true.

Arsenal is a big club who acts with a small clubs budget. The abc of basic economics is to spend as less as possible to gain as much profit one is capapbable off to make.

I am srry fo Emery and regardless the results i will back him up no matter what. Arsenal is trully an american joke

  9. I can’t believe Soyuncu is going to Leicester at 19mil….and we got Sokratis for 16mil..
And all the while initially, Soyuncu was quoted at 35mil for us..
Leicester getting two CBs at a joint 35mil dats Soyuncu and Benkovic..

I jst hope Sven and co pull off a surprise for us before 5pm

    1. If Soyuncu goes to Leicester for £19m we have missed out big time!!! Same age as Torreira and a great prospect and I’ll bet he would rather be playing for us. No disrespect, just a fact.
