Arsenal fans will be over the moon with response to transfer rumours

Over the last few weeks, there have been constant rumours linking Lucas Torreira with a move to AC Milan and generally speaking, the fans were not impressed with the prospect of losing a player that is seen as integral to the team going forward.

Well, it seems the club has heard the fans and are taking steps to ensure the Uruguayan does not leave this summer.

It is being reported that Arsenal is preparing a new contract offer for the 23-year-old in order to tie him down to the club long term and thwart the unwanted interest from Milan.

This is, of course, good news, it shows that the club is finally getting it’s act together.

For his part, despite the so-called rumours about him being unhappy in London, Torreira only this week has made it clear that he is happy at the Emirates.

Speaking in Brazil where he is on Copa America duty he said

“Nobody from AC Milan has got in touch with me, today I’m in the Premier League and happy to be part of Arsenal,” Torreira said, ahead of Uruguay’s game against Peru.

“It cost me the adaptation, it’s not easy, but I only think about that team.

“I’m happy to be there.”

As things stand right now Torreira has a contract with Arsenal that runs until 2023, which in itself is a fairly healthy length so it can only be assumed that he is in line for a nice salary increase.

It is also being reported that Unai Emery is adamant that the midfielder is not going anywhere and remains a pivotal element for his plans for the future.

No doubt AC Milan will still try their luck but all the signs are that they are wasting their time.

  1. Of course, it’s all just gossip anyway..

Let’s wait and see how the summer pans out for those coming and going!

Personally I hope he stays though. He just the character we need in the middle!!

    1. Stories not going away though
Sky Italy say he’s there number 1 target and he wants to go play for former manager .
They also say that the FFP does not affect the transfer .
Could be gossip but this is sky reporting this so it probably as some substance.

      1. The player is open to a move away to Milan but is not forcing a move away and hasn’t told Arsenal he wants to leave. The same can be said about many of our players though

  2. He was crucial with his tackles and interceptions, but I’d also like to see how Chambers would play as a DM

We need more passionate players like Torreira that really cares whether his team are losing or not

Waiting to see that level of passion on Chambers, Nelson, Iwobi, Maitland-Niles and other academy graduates next season

    1. Coqelin’s defensive skills still far superior though. He was only judged on the 16/17 season but he was one of our best players in pre-season of 17/18 and then sold.He dominated Barcelona in the cup game they played earning him the MOTM.I wish he didn’t leave because I miss him and still believe he was great defensively

  3. Milan banned from Europe for FFP and Roma take their place. Let’s hope the same thing happens to Man City !

    1. The rumour about Man C is that if they are caught breaching FFP rules is that it would be the season after next season that they could be banned !……….so if we dont get top 4, we need at least 5th to be on the CL subs bench !

  4. Read ac Milan have been banned from Europe next season.Think now case closed torreira going nowhere

  5. Wasn’t there a rumour that we will get 2 players for him,, a left back and a midfielder who statistically is just as good if not better,, if that is true we make sense rule over sentiment and take the deal
