Arsenal finally want to sign a player Unai Emery asked for in 2019

Arsenal has been long-term admirers of Wilfried Zaha, and they might finally add him to their squad in this transfer window.

The Gunners want to sign a replacement for Nicolas Pepe who they expect to ship out before this window closes.

The Ivorian has been a flop at the Emirates and the Gunners are now prepared to cut their losses on him.

Pepe’s departure will leave a gap in their squad and the Gunners are looking at potential replacements.

Pedro Neto has emerged as the leading contender to join them in a big money transfer.

Because he is 22, he represents good value for money and he is similar to most players the Gunners have been rebuilding their squad with.

They also want Yeremy Pino of Villarreal, however, transfer pundit, Dean Jones, insists Zaha is among their targets.

This means the Gunners may sign a player Unai Emery wanted instead of Pepe in 2019.

He said on The Done Deal Show: “They’re not the only two names they’re looking at (Neto and Pino). In the background, there is Wilfried Zaha.

“That deal is not moving forward at the moment, but Zaha is definitely one of those players that ticks the boxes and that Arsenal has an eye on. We will have to wait and see if they go down that path. Zaha is obviously in red-hot form at the moment.”

Just Arsenal Opinion

Zaha has been on our radar for a long time and he has started this season in fantastic form.

He is not so young, but he now has a lot of experience, which is probably what we need to get as many wins as possible.

  1. Yes, please. Go for him ASAP. Allways a treath to any defence. Succesful in the PL, No time to adapt. He is ready now. One of my favorite players in the PL

  2. I think this is pure speculation on the “pundits” part and honestly think that ship sailed a long time ago.

  3. Zaha is a fantastic attacking player, but I can’t see Arteta signing him. This team is being built with young players with a very specific team-first, tough mentality. The only weakness I see in Zaha is that he can be extremely immature at times. He complains, whines, and is petulant when things aren’t going his way. We don’t need that on our team, regardless of talent.

  4. A move for Zaha would almost definitely hinder Martinelli’s progress. I wouldn’t take it even tho its tempting

  5. it took till the end of the window for this boring rumor to finally come up again. 😭. No chance we are in for Zaha. Palace can name a crazy fee because he is essential to their survival every year.

    1. The question is How Much is he paid at Palace? If Arsenal offers (almost) double what he gets, can allow his own head to be turned.
Painful part is, we had our chance to get him and blew it.

    2. I think Dean Jones is entirely wrong. His comments are an attempt to get his name in the papers at this point.

      1. Crystal Palace would NOT sell Zaha at this point, not for less than a massive fee. Somewhere around 80 mil?
(I mean, if Leic can quote it for Fofana …)

      2. Zaha might be red-hot right now, and excellent in general, he simply does not fit the profile for an Arteta/Edu signing. He is 29 going on 30, and per point 1, way too expensive.

      3. For what Zaha will cost now, we could sign 2 wingers as backups for both Saka and Martinelli, especially if we use Pepe/AMN/Nelson in part-exchange deals.

      4. IF we sign Zaha, who do you bench? He will demand a starting role but do you then bench Saka? Or Martinelli who has struck such an impressive partnership with Jesus already … not to mention how well he works with Xhaka/Zinchenko down the left?

No, this story is stupid and the only reason we’ve been linked is because Emery once wanted the player.

  6. Zaha to Arsenal ?My word

This is a ship I thought already sail.
But would he make Arsenal better?

Saha is a proven campaigner, and a boyhood fan of the club.
This is a call this armchair manager cant make, we need cover but mainly at right wing.

One think for sure Zaha is on top of his game just now

  7. As can be seen above Zaha splits the fanbase right down the middle! I think he will (again!) be priced way too highly, and I believe this is purely paper talk with no substance. Too many reasons he wouldn’t suit us.
Or maybe that’s just my wishful thinking…

  8. Just one more bogus rumour that, having died a few years ago, has reared its lying head again, thanks to a journos fertile imagination and the need for a story, however far fetched it is.

Obviously its nonsense, as even a moments proper thought SHOULD tell anyone who cares to think.

  9. Zaha will terrify opposition defences & he scores goals as well. It’s best to mix youth & experience. Kids alone will tire at the eleventh hour & we will miss top 4 once again.
