Arsenal forward line to face Sheff Utd – Will Lacazette return?

Alexandre Lacazette is back from injury but will he feature against Sheff Utd on Monday evening.

The short answer, in my opinion, is that the Frenchman will feature against the Blades but not start the game. Unai Emery is not one for taking unnecessary risks and I just cannot see him starting Lacazette from the get-go.

Sheffield United can be tough opponents and I expect the game to be physical and Emery probably does as well. Would he risk bringing back a player fresh from injury against such an opponent? I don’t think so.

Therefore if Lacazette is to start on the bench who will Emery start with upfront then?

I think most of us will agree that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe will start and so it is just the one spot we are talking about. For me, there is only one real contender and that is Bukayo Saka.

So, the frontline I expect Emery to go with is Pepe, Aubameyang and Saka. However, Emery does like to surprise us and it would not be a huge shock to see him pick Ceballos or even Ozil just behind Pepe and Auba.

But all things considered, my guess is that the boss will stick with the front three that he went with against Bournemouth and Manchester United.

Depending on how the game unfolds I would expect to see Lacazette brought on as a sub, probably for Saka. If Arsenal is comfortable it could be a late sub but could easily change if the game is a struggle.

  1. Yes, You are correct; Emery likes to surprise and the genius Emery, might play Bernd Leno behind Aubameyang and Pepe with Torreira as GK !

    1. Someone else who knows Emery! Welcome to the club!

  2. I hope there is no more narrow diamond formation

    1. I too hope there is no more of Emery’s damned formations. Pass the team sheet to Freddie!

  3. Predicted line up

    1. Lol, only constant player, I am happy, he is one card away from suspension, I have to admit. How he starts ahead of Lucas T. is beyond me to be honest.

  4. Its time we started taking the premier league seriously. Results from other teams have given us a real chance to fight for a top position.
We now have almost all players back from injury which gives us an opportunity to see what team Emery deems as his starting eleven.
At this stage the best 11 should be playing in the premier league then we give the other group a chance in Europa.
With the games I have watched so far ,I think Emery needs to change a few players to give this team the balance for us to compete effectively.
My opinion would be the following lineups.
    Premier league &FA cup
    …………..1.Leno

    2.C.Chambers 4.Mustafi 5.Holding 3.K.T

    ……..8.Torreira…..6.Luiz

    7.Bellerin.10.Ceballos.11.Aubameyang

    ………….9.Lacz

    Europa&EFL
    …………1.Martinez

    2.AMN….4.Mavpr.5.Sokratis.3.Kola

    ……..8.Guend.6.Dhaka

    7.Reis…..10.OZIL….11.Pepe

    ………9.Martinelli

I think this teams are able to make us a threat to any opposition.
We also have young players like Willock &Saka who are readily available for selection.

  5. Ah, Cliff those were the days. An 8-10 pint liquid lunch with a packet of crisps and a bag of nuts thrown in. Then back to the computer and put out an Arsenal lineup. Was Emery part of your pub group?

    1. BTW Cliff Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh so I’m just wondering if that was a Freudian slip on your part because that’s where I’d like to see Xhaka playing too.

      1. This is typo @Gunner Jack,my bad.But again Xhaka could make a great captain over there, may be he should try it.

  6. Some more pop corns please @Gunner Jack.

    1. Last time I took the kids to the cinema I was going to get them popcorn and drinks but then realised I didn’t have two thousand pounds to spare.
