On Tuesday night, news broke of an agreement between Arsenal and Leandro Trossard, and it is safe to say many did not see it coming. In a surprising turn, the Belgian international has secured improved contractual terms despite weeks of speculation linking him with a move away.
Arsenal are still expected to add at least one more player before the transfer window closes, with the forward line widely seen as the priority. However, that ambition always hinged on player departures, and for a long time Trossard was viewed as a strong candidate to leave due to his age and his delay in signing a new contract. Gunnerblog has reported that the new deal is only a salary increase, with his contract still running until 2027.
Implications for the left-winger pursuit
The raise is said to reflect Trossard’s valued role in the squad, but what does it mean for Arsenal’s long-standing search for a left winger? Reports indicate the club remain keen to strengthen that position and have cooled interest in Eberechi Eze, who is seen more as a central option. Real Madrid’s Rodrygo continues to be monitored, with suggestions that a loan could be possible.
Yet, with Gabriel Martinelli firmly in Mikel Arteta’s plans and new recruit Noni Madueke expected to compete heavily on the left, the path to a new signing looks less clear. Trossard’s increased terms also point to a bigger role this season. While he has previously been deployed as a false nine or an advanced midfielder, the arrival of Viktor Gyökeres and the form of Declan Rice mean his focus will almost certainly be on the left.
Enough depth or still short?
Arsenal’s left flank has been widely regarded as the weakest area in their front three, and that is why links to new additions have persisted. The question now is whether the current group, strengthened by Trossard’s commitment, can provide enough firepower without another reinforcement.

Why give him a salary increase and no contract extension. They may as well have kept him on his current contract, or tried to sell. Makes no sense whatsoever.
No wonder we’re a laughing stock where giving out stupid contracts are concerned. 🤦♂️
No coincidence that Havertz got injured and Trossard given a py rise to stay on the same day.
Can’t lose the experience and knowledge of our system if Havertz is out for any length of time
What this might do is fast track another signing …eg Eze ? No need for another winger if Trossard Madueke and Martinelli already competing and I doubt they would have given him a pay rise if that was the case
Thats why it’s important for Teams to see how new players are gelling and also if any injuries before window shuts before any knee jerk reactions

Havertz injury shouldn’t have meant a pay rise for Trossard. There was no need, he was already contracted to the one he signed. And he couldn’t leave if we didn’t want to sell, so to give him a rise and no contract extension is laughable at best.
He was out of the door 2 days ago.. he is doing us a solid I believe. Extra wagers to stay for 6.mk the until our side settles and Havertz and Jesus return. He knows he will get minutes and not be a bench warmer

Why hang on to an aging player that has no value next season? And why give him a raise when he is already contracted until the end of the season? They never learn to let go of players at the right time. They either hang on to the players too long until they lose value or they devalue them trashing them. The way they are going, we will be lucky if we get anything for zinchecko, viera and Nelson.
Zinch Vieira and Nelson look likely on their way. You can’t sell a player if there isn’t any offer …most clubs leave things late…we used to do the same !
Still 10 – 11 days left and fully expect these to be sold especially Nelson and Vieira. If we get all our LB s injured again then Zinch might be needed ! Fingers crossed our players all stay fit and no further injuries. We had enough last season
Yes, I remember – particularly in Wenger’s day – that Arsenal often used to leave thing very late indeed. Unfortunately, it didn’t pay off on several occasions.
There’s still a fair amount of time left of course, but last-minute deals are always potentially problematic at least as a relatively small hitch can supper them because of time constraints.
Berta will clearly do his best to sell at least some of the players Arsenal are reported to want to offload, but I suspect he may have to compromise on fees and/or other terms to get a few of them over the line because it’s unlikely clubs will pay the sums reported. We’ll see.

So much noise about inept matinelli and LW, club better move him now or their relationship will become sour in the end like wen arteta refused to drop aubemayang even tho he was having endless run of awful performances.
