Arsenal have not put in a bid for Jonny Evans

The West Brom manager Alan Pardew made it clear before the January transfer window that Jonny Evans would be available, with his club having rejected bids from Arsenal and Man City during the summer, but he revealed yesterday that the Baggies have received no bids at all for the centre-back.

Pardew said: ‘We’ve had a couple of enquiries about what we’d be looking for. The answer has been, “We’re not going to tell you. Make a bid and we’ll gauge”.

‘If they ring up late Tuesday they’re probably not going to get the response they want. If they ring today, tomorrow, they’ll get a nicer response.’

He also admitted that he wouldn’t be expecting a price like the amount Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk. ‘Every criteria is different, age, experience, his contract,’ Pardew continued. ‘Jonny’s got 18 months left so it makes him more vulnerable.

‘Having said that, centre halves are in their prime from 29-34, when they really know their game, and their fitness levels are strong. That’s what Jonny is in.’

So if Arsenal haven’t yet made a bid with just three days left of the transfer window then I think we can safely assume we are not interested in signing Evans. Not with the speed that Arsenal do transfers!

  1. Did you see him play yesterday, he was just plain awful!

He got turned, dispossessed, gave the ball away and caught out of position, apart from that he had a good game lol.

No thanks, WBA can keep him.

    1. Arsene knows best, hence no bid simple.
Regarding auba, arsene wants him, but is not part of the negotiations team, so dont hold him responsible, as for the Sanchez saga, arsene got at santi’s replacement, thats good business
      In Arsene we trust! COYG

      1. Are you telling me they Wenger still hasn’t got the last word when it comes to transfers. If you’re right, thank the Lord

  2. Evans is useless. His display against Liverpool was shocking. But yet again we are talking about Arsenal. They always buy the biggest load of cral

  3. WBA could be relegated at the end of this season, so Arsenal can keep their money in their arse if they want to. Besides, getting a new central defender is not a pressing need currently.

But it is more important to get a new consistent goalscorer that could pin the opponent’s defenders down in their own area. Because Lacazette, Giroud and Welbeck are not consistent enough.

If Aubameyang’s price is too much for Uncle Scrooge, why not get a skillful and pacey inverted winger (like Salah, Mane, Sterling, Sane or Rashford), instead of getting a tall striker? Adama Traore is very skillful, quick and brave to dribble past the defenders (should be available cheaply as well):

  4. Arsenal will sign no one.
Three days and its all over and thank god.
Although it will look spectacularly bad for Wenger considering he has been publicly been linking Arsenal with Aubameyang all month – so its not all cloud and rain…
I will like to see him talk his way out of that.
Or perhaps he will just blame someone else.
    Like he always does…

    1. But according to @kev the man a.k.a @RememberResource? a.k.a @Resource, Aubameyang will join Arsenal tomorrow at the latest. If Aubameyang doesn’t join, maybe we can call him @kev the poo instead.

  5. Thank God!! Did we really want another cast off (indirectly in this case) from our rivals whilst they poach our best players?

  6. Jonny Evans suffered a hamstring injury at Anfield and at this stage it is not known yet how serious it is. Regardless maybe Wenger still wants him, as he took Kim Kallstrom with a back injury!
The issue at The Arsenal is not the quality of the players in the defense (note most have international experience), but the quality of the coaching.

  7. There is a reason Jonny Evans has ended up at WBA after starting his career at Manure. That is his level. Why are we even considering this to happen?

  8. I think the reason why arsenal wants Evans is the fact that he is an experienced player and has been good in a team which has a solid defensive line. Our young defenders have had their good days and bad but are still learning their trade through game time. Mert does not have any gas left and Evans leadership in West Brom defensive line can not be under-rated and under-stated

  9. i stil cant see what this useless Johnny Evans knws concerning defending. Maybe am blind that i cant see hw good he is. Jokes apart….that guy is total crap. Awful than even Mikael silvestre of old. what does wenger sees in him that am nt seeing??!!

    1. hope our scouts were at Anfield to see him gift liverpool their opening goal and the rest of his terrible display before he was substituted after his hamstring injury in the first half. played worse than our very own calamitous Jenkinson.
