Patrick Vieira has broken his silence after agreeing to become the new manager of Senegal, becoming the latest high-profile coach to enter international management.
In recent years, several coaches have moved from club management to the international game, with Jurgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti among those who have taken charge of national teams.
International management was not always viewed as an attractive option for coaches at the club level, and taking charge of a national team was sometimes seen as a role that managers pursued later in their careers.

However, the arrival of coaches such as Klopp and Ancelotti in international management has added greater prominence to the role. England are also coached by an elite manager in Thomas Tuchel, further highlighting the level of coaches now working with national teams.
The former Arsenal midfielder will bring his experience from club management to an international environment, where he will have the opportunity to work with Senegal’s players and prepare the team for their upcoming challenges.

Vieira shares his first message
After agreeing to the new role, Vieira expressed his pride at becoming Senegal’s head coach. He also thanked the Senegalese Football Federation for showing confidence in him and revealed his eagerness to begin working with the squad.
‘Honoured and proud to join Senegal as head coach of the national A team.
‘I thank the Senegalese Football Federation for their confidence.
‘I am looking forward to meeting the group and starting work together on the next steps.’
Vieira’s appointment marks a new chapter in his managerial career after his spells with Crystal Palace, Nice and Genoa. He will now turn his attention to Senegal, with the task of preparing the national team and building towards their next challenges.
His arrival also adds another recognised name to the growing group of coaches who have moved into international management. For Vieira, the opportunity provides a new setting in which to continue his coaching career and work with Senegal’s national team.
