Arsenal in danger of not being ready for start of season?

I suppose Arsenal fans should be glad that some of our players are doing well on international duty, but it could also prove to be a problem for us when the more important business, in our eyes anyway, of the Premier League season starts again, just as it has in the past with players returning late and not being ready for the start.

At least the under 21 European championships do not have a third place play-off game, so our England defender Calum Chambers is now free to have his summer holiday after being knocked out by Germany on penalties. We still have Hector Bellerin involved in Poland, though, with Spain set to face ze Germans in the final on Friday.

In the confederations Cup there is a play-off so whatever happens the Arsenal players Alexis Sanchez and Shkodran Mustafi will not be free until after the weekend. With our first match of the new league season kicking off on August 12th there is little chance these four players will be available and with the Gunners having been handed a tough early run of fixtures starting with Leicester and then Stoke and Liverpool away, we really need to be ready from the off.

The other way Wenger could ensure this would be to get his summer signings done early but the squad jet off to Oz soon and nobody has been added since the Schalke defender Sead Kolasinac. Do you see Arsenal being ready?

Bob.

    1. Just give the b loody asking money Arsenal and stop p issing about making silly counter offers for crying out loud!!!

  1. not just start of the season we won’t be ready for the entire season. With the way our transfer period is going I don’t think we will ever be ready.
I am waiting for AKBs to give thumbs down to this comment

  2. wenger will never change.. am already seeing another season of failures.. until wenger leaves the club will never win the EPL again… only deluded fans thinks we can win it with Wenger.. no matter the players bought we still won’t challenge for top trophies cause Wenger has passed his sell by date.

  3. Are we ever ready for the start of the season? Other clubs manage it fine but arsenal never look ready until end of August. This is with the exception of the 6-1 thrashing of Everton but that was done tome ago. With such a tough fixtures list in August thus year we will fall behind quickly if third happens again.

  4. We will not be ready but we never are ready when the season starts. If we had been ready last season and managed a draw with Liverpool (or a win against struggling Leicester) we would be playing CL football this season. For some reason, our club doesn’t seem to realize that points lost at the beginning of the season carry the same weight as those lost during the run-in. It seems silly to predict a close title race yet appear unprepared at the starting line.

It is unlikely that our new signings will arrive before pre-season training so it is unlikely they will be ready for significant contribution early on. Only the benefit of a full pre-season would help a new signing.

Monaco has come out and said Lemar is not for sale at any price after our insulting offer of 30 million and Lacazette has decided to stay in Lyon and probably move to Atletico in January.

We appear to be the same Arsenal in the transfer market dragging our feet, indecisive and pissing teams of with endless insulting offers. Watch Man U buy Kane and Spurs turn around and buy a replacement (Lacaette?) in no time at all.

    1. spot on bro…that was exactly i was afraid off when we dropped those points last season and it proven. This season will be same, we are well into the season and he will be scrambling for players at last minute…by then we have dropped points.

Seems that he insist to see how his current players performs before he dives into window. its been same for many years and we keep hearing about Lacazette. Move on…we should either swap Lewandowski for Sanchez or Abumayeng for Sanchez….let sanchez go as it is good for him too …he will never win the league under AW with same players

  5. With Wenger in charge I have full faith that we will be ready for the season from day 1.

  6. I am bored with this Lacazette saga…AW has been chasing him for last 3-4 years and has failed. He has wasted so much effort on him and we end up with a striker not worthy. If we are unable to sign top players when we were in CL how do we expect anyone will come. They see us as a team declining with AW still at helm. Look at Chelsea despite out of top 4 and CL due to Conte players wanna play for them.

ANother 2 frustrating season for us…

    1. What our club doesn’t seem to realize is that if you go after players that clubs don’t really want to sell you have to make an offer that changes their mind. If you give them a low ball offer you only strengthen them in their resolve not to sell to you. It is only human.

If Lyon can avoid selling to us they will, like you said we have essentially pissed them off for 3 years trying to seduce Lacazette on the cheap. Now we appear to have done the same with Monaco. Lemar is not far behind Mbappe in promises yet we supposedly offered around 30 million whilst Mabppe has a price tag north of 100. Of course, they are pissed now and say they won’t sell at any price. They are not a club in financial duress, they would love to hold onto their youngs stars in the making, they offer CL football and we don’t so what do we gain by low balling? Resentment is about all I can think of. Lemar IMO should go for closer to 50 than 30 million.

      1. Completely agree, by offering low bids we piss off the selling club and ensure they would rather sell to a rival than us. If Wenger has identified a certain player as someone he thinks can improve our side then offer the asking price and get it done. All this dithering around affects the whole club and puts us in danger of dropping points early on.

  7. When will our management be able to act in time like all big clubs do?? I hate this last minute dash and we end up losiing out on some good players.

    1. I totally agree that our transfer business has been poor but lets be honest, no big clubs are doing any better at the minute!!

  8. arsenal is our football close let do everything possible to bring it back to it best.Forza arsenal fans.

  9. Remember the Higuain, Suarez and Mata fiascos? Wenger or some Dodo on the board will not pay market prices. Wenger is obsessively anal retentive. Expect panic buys on Transfer Deadline Day. Shame it would have been nice to have our team all together on a pre-season tour. Man City have already bought two top players. We have a freebie. Heard that before? We have less chance of winning the league than last year. at the moment. Heartbreaking.

    1. City are going into the new season with no fullbacks as it stands, hardly great business…. and our freebie was the best left back in the Bundesliga last year.

Why do some people insist on putting arsenal down and praising others, perspective people, please!!!!

      1. Good talk, but you are not being realistic.

We all know City will get those full backs before the season starts, and Arsenal will continue to offer low bids, dragging deals longer than necessary till deadline day.

Ask yourself this, will Arsenal have completed the signing of the best left back in Bundesliga so fast if he was not for FREE?

It was a tough year for us last year, we need to take transfer business more seriously, so we can enter the new season stronger.

  10. I really want us to get Lemar now, really hope we pull it off. Not just because ESPN likened him to a taller faster Cazorla.

You know that old trick of having a few things that catch your eye. You make out that there is one you want, then when it’s not going so well because you expected it to not go well. You go, go on then, sure I’ll take that one over there then but only if it’s a good price seeing as I’m not getting anywhere with the one I want. Then you get yourself a nice bargain.

  11. Wenger killed us when he bid 40,000,001 for Suarez. Barcelona bid the right price and won La Liga. Wenger with his tight assed antics made a fool of Arsenal. In reality he is bit by bit ruining this great club. He is an total big shot who knows ‘**** all’

    1. Stop blaming Wenger for the 40+1 bid for Suarez. Wenger did not mess up the deal, Liverpool were never going to sell to us regardless of how much we offered. He did have a clause in his contract that said he would be sold for any amount greater than 40M. So why waste extra millions when all that was required by the letter of the contract was 1 pound over 40M.

  12. Same old Arsenal. Stubborn in doing business. Prefer players transfer with a point of view of business rather than footballing reason. Sad to see Wenger to leave this club with his head held low.

  13. What a bunch of whiny pansies most of you are. There’s still six weeks left until the start of the season. I don’t see any reason for us NOT to be ready. Transfer window hasn’t even officially opened yet, so let’s wait and see how it all pans out. Personally, I have high hopes that we’ll bring in a couple of decent signings. The only thing I’m not sure about is whether we’ll be able to get a hold of both Sanchez and Ozil. Probably, Ozil. Alexis, on the other hand, is most likely gone. Hence the need of a replacement, and I think it’ll get done.

    1. Spot on mate, I understand people thinking we’ve been here before but like you said the Window hasn’t even opened just chill out

  14. This article is just scaremongering! We started our business before Chelsea. Chelsea haven’t signed anyone yet, we have done the Same amount of business as Man United who have also signed 1 player so far. Spurs haven’t signed anyone. It’s only Man city, Liverpool and Everton who have really been that active so far so what is the problem. The window officially opens July 1st. There is still time for us to get deals done.
