Arsenal January transfer plans in tatters after these comments?

With friends like this, who needs enemies? That may be just what Arsene Wenger and whoever else deals with the transfer dealings at Arsenal FC, because our former keeper Wojciech Szczesny has done them no favours at all with his latest comments.

The Poland international joined our academy system as a teenager, spending three years there before breaking into first team contention in 2009. After a spell on loan at Brentford Szczesny went on to make 180 appearances for us and has declared himself to be a dyed in the wool Gooner, but that did not stop him from suggesting that the coaching and training to develop players like himself is much better at his current club.

Since he signed for the Serie A champions Juventus on a permanent deal after impressing in Italy with Roma on loan, the 27-year old reckons he has come on in leaps and bounds, while at Arsenal he never really improved, reports Sky Sports.

He said, “Honestly, I couldn’t say from a technical standpoint that I improved in any way from when I became first choice at Arsenal until the day I left for Roma.

“However, in the two-and-a-half years since I came to Italy I’ve improved massively, which is thanks to the coaches and the way they work.

“It’s not about improving when you play, it’s every day in training you have to work on every aspect of your game and that’s something I’ve really enjoyed.

“I think in general, the coaches in Italy are much more tactical, that’s just how the league works.

“At Arsenal you’d just prepare physically for it but here you watch films analysing a specific opponent before the game and afterwards we’ll watch again to see what worked and what didn’t.

“I enjoyed working with some great coaches at Arsenal, Roma and here, but the goalkeeping school in Italy is very different – it’s very technical and pays more attention to the details.”

Now imagine you are a player, especially a young player, considering a transfer to Arsenal. Would these comments from one of our former players claiming that you are not going to develop as much here as elsewhere put you off? Will our January transfer plans now prove to be much tougher because of what Szczesny said?

  1. I think he is just being honest. Maybe there are problems with our training system. Maybe we need better coaches

I’m glad Mertsacker will remain with us in a coaching capacity btw

  2. Seems like everyone is queueing up to have a pop at Arsenal nowadays, and I’m afraid Kroenke has to take a lot of the blame, for interfering in matters he knows nothing about, or spends the time to learn about. Roy Keane just had a pop on the Champions league show, and we aren’t even the Champions League!

  3. Oh sorry author, was he suppose to lie to save our transfer window? Wenger doesn’t like January window, do you think he’s bothered?
Szczesny is talking pure sense, our team just trains like any other day and goes for the match to play the Arsenal way, they don’t really prepare based on opponents, they play the same way everyday, if it works out Wenger will be regarded as a genius, but most of the times we see what happens, that’s why we are now 14years trophyless in the EPL (before the AKBs come and starts comparing us to Everton and Spurs, just know that we are not in their level, compare us to the Manchester clubs and Chelsea)

  4. Stop using excuses to make articles! There’s one problem at arsenal, we are a business, not a football club with a coach that can’t handle it any more for years, passionned and getting paid to run the club as he is told, with no money!

In january we have plenty of opportunity as for each window… All we need to do is sign top players, many are in last year contract or left out…Example: just look at PSG: Draxler we didnt want to put 35 millions for, he wanted Arsenal just like Kante. Di MAria, Lucas…That’s 4 Top quality players, and 3 are right there available for 40 millions each and 60 for Di maria! No we sign a player Lacazette that is sitting on the bench with french team, he is not a top player, let’s wake up, we have cheap owners and awfully wrong in signing players..;In 10 years, who did we sign big ? Ozil and Sanchez! The rest are average team players. When we sign local hopes, we ruin them, play the OX left back…So, Arsenal transfer should start by bringing Henry in to boost this team manager pampering and sign 3 to 5 players, the 3 i named whith a beast to lock our middle and a strong center back…

  5. Well if you’re young you might look at it like homework, and say I’m not going to Italy there is too much homework. In truth this is bad, just preparing physically, I hope he signed a confidentiality agreement and that’s why he said it.
