Arsenal knows what to expect from Sunderland after last season’s draw

Arsenal were held to a 2-2 draw the last time they visited the Stadium of Light, as Sunderland scored a late goal through Brian Brobbey to deny the Gunners a 2-1 win.

The Black Cats were persistent throughout that game and opened the scoring before Arsenal overturned the result and looked set to claim victory in one of the most difficult games they played last term.

It was a match Arsenal could have won, but the result ultimately slipped away from them. They will want to avoid a repeat in this match, as they cannot afford to start dropping points this early in the campaign, especially with Manchester City looking in great shape so far.

Arsenal aware of Sunderland threat

Arsenal know they must be at their best to win the match, while Sunderland will always be a difficult team to beat when playing at home. The Gunners have learnt from their previous experience and will be determined not to allow another late setback to cost them valuable points.

The Gunners believe the Black Cats will be just as tough as they were last season, and they know what to expect from their hosts. Arteta has made it clear that Arsenal have prepared carefully for the challenge and understand the atmosphere that awaits them.

Arteta ready for another difficult test

Arteta has also stressed the importance of competing at the highest level and ensuring his players are ready for the demands of the match. As quoted by Arsenal Media, he said:

“We experienced last season how tough it’s going to be tomorrow night. It’s an unbelievable atmosphere, and it’s great to play in these kinds of games.

The manager also confirmed that Arsenal were finalising their preparations and understood the significance of the fixture. He expects his players to compete as they always do while looking to improve on their previous performance.

“We know how ready they’re going to be, we have prepared the game, we’re going to finalise the game today. We know the importance of it and we’ll be ready tomorrow to be on that pitch. We’ll compete like we always do, we’ll try to be better than the opponent and win the game.”

  1. Make no mistake, when the SOL is rocking, it is the most ferocious cauldron in the Premier Leagye. They would easily pack out 60,000 mad mackems there, if the ground was expanded. Football is a religion there. They don’t have all the other attractions London has, and this stadium is their holy grail. If they get off to a flier, the crowd will lift them hugely. Not a place for the faint hearted, thst’s for sure. If it is raining as well, this will help them, as they love nothing more than a full scale on their pitch with their crowd baying them on.

    1. Hugh O’ Grady,

Reading you’re post has alarmed me. I think I’m going to be hiding behind that dam sofa again.😂🤣😉

      1. Don’t worry Derek, we’ll turn out their lights. They won’t even be able to see the black cats. Have that sofa on standby anyway just in case.

Most the north of England support their football teams as you describe – although you’ve missed a big point? namely its the north-west teams that have coped well and are routinely successful not the north or north-east. For which reason Arsenal have little to worry about versus Sunderland. Far as i see it we enter this tie as Reining Champions: says everything really. #COYG!
