Arsenal legend urges Mikel Arteta to sign two new defenders this month

Arsenal needs to make reinforcements at the back before this transfer window closes, according to Charlie Nicholas.

The former Gunner has been talking about Arsenal on Sky Sports and claims that the club is still a mess at the back and that has to be fixed.

The problems at the back this season has been well-publicised with their defenders causing all sorts of problems for the team.

The recent high profile mistake by an Arsenal defender came from Shkodran Mustafi who under-hit his back pass against Chelsea.

That caused David Luiz to foul Tammy Abraham to save the day and got himself sent off.

His suspension means Arsenal are now very light at the back as most of their best defenders will be missing for the next few games.

Nicholas believes the solution to Arsenal problems at the back is reinforcements and he has urged them to open up the cheque book and make a few signings before this transfer window ends.

‘There’s not much time to go [in the January transfer window], but I’d like to see some defenders in. We need two defenders in,’ Nicholas told Sky Sports as cited by the Metro.

‘I don’t mean to be disrespectful but you see David Luiz and you see the mess Shkodran Mustafi made for the goal.

‘Hector Bellerin coming back is obviously a boost but there are problems all over the defensive set-up. We need defenders to come in and help the current situation.’

Really hard to argue with that assessment from Nicholas. However, confidence is low that anyone at board level is listening.

  1. Leicester have an average squad.
Sheff U are a bunch of Championship players while Wolves have few stars.
All three teams though play as a team with no fear.
Southampton lost 0-9 to Leicester and were relegation fodder
yet they have stormed past Arsenal since Arteta arrived.
Newcastle Burnley and Everton have also caught Arsenal since Mikel came in.

  2. If the manager goes to the market after just 6 PL games
he is essentially saying he has no faith in the players.
If the club goes to the market after just 6 PL games

Is it better players we need or the players to perform better?
May be the fans just need a new toy.
Surely it won’t come down to the result v Bournemouth?

  3. Edu was photographed at Rio de Janeiro airport when talking to Pablo Mari, a Spanish towering CB from Flamengo. Mari was owned by Man City in 2016 – 2019, but he was loaned out to Girona, NAC Breda and Deportivo La Coruna

According to several Brazilian media outlets, Mari has bid his farewell to his teammates and he is headed to London to have his medical test

However, Transfer Checker said it’s not true and Ornstein never said anything about it either. Where’s @kev and @Remember Resource?

      1. According to the news, Flamengo fans are upset because of his departure. So he must have been doing well in Brazil

However, Transfer Checker said Arsenal have made their first formal offer for Mykola Matviyenko. £4 million loan fee with an obligation to pay £16 million for the permanent transfer in summer

Shakhtar will probably reject the first offer and hold out for a little bit more money

        1. If we are trying to get matviyenko why are we going for this flamengo guy,btw flamengo is a superb team(the fight they gave to livArpool is just fantastic).I am not saying that we should not go but that means less funds for other positions…
And do you know how much he is worth??

  4. Signing Defenders is the need of the hour. Also if we get a box to box midfielder it would be better. Arteta will certainly improve our current players but fresh blood is needed. In Arteta we trust.

  5. All brasilian newspapers said that Pablo Mari central defender of Flamengo is flying to London for medical at Arsenal.Spanish nacional,26 years old,6ft,3in.tall 87 kgs.Is looking a very addition.
