Arsenal linked with a move for highly regarded La Liga defender

Arsenal is hoping to land highly-rated defender Pau Torres in the next transfer window.

Arsenal has been struggling to shut teams out this season and that is one of the reasons that they have dropped down to sixth and without a win in their last six Premier League games.

The Sun reports that Villarreal star, Torres is Arsenal’s target to fix their leaky defence.

The defender would, however, not come cheap as he has a release clause of £43 million written into his current deal.

The Gunners have reportedly not been put off by his huge release clause and the report further claims that they are already exploring the option of a similar deal to that of Nicolas Pepe.

Arsenal paid just £20 million of the £72 million that Pepe cost upfront with the rest of the amount coming in smaller instalments.

Arsenal has a target of finishing inside the top four by the end of the season but confidence is low that can be achieved with the current crop of players, especially in defence. Signing a player like Torres would go a long way to shoring up the leaky defence. Well, that would be the hope.

Torres also likes to score goals as he scored on his debut for the national team. That is an asset much appreciated in defenders.

The 22-year-old has only played the once for Spain but based on his impressive debut he definitely looks to be one for the future.

Put it this way, Arsenal could do a lot worse.

  1. Recruiting a new young CB in the summer is necessary, because Luiz, Sokratis and possibly Mustafi would be gone in 2021

But I’d prefer Arsenal to get one of RB Leipzig’s CBs instead of this guy

  2. Overpriced for an unproven CB who is I believe only in his second season at Villareal.Don’t be misled by the fact that he has recently been capped by Spain against one of the weakest international sides in Europe in Malta, as they have been trying out a number of CBS with a view to eventually replacing the aging Piquet and Ramos.
