Arsenal linked with the midfielder that downed Man City

The international break is usually filled with unlikely Arsenal transfer rumours but this particular one has a ring of truth to it. It has been reported many times that the Basel attacking midfielder Mohamed Elyounoussi has been scouted by Arsenal, West Ham and Leicester but now the 23 year-old has very clearly implied that it is the Gunners that have been keeping an eye on him.

He said: “A club which is usually in the Premier League top four has followed me for a long time.

“I just learned that they have stepped up their interest even more after what happened in the Champions League. Is it Arsenal? I can’t comment, but it is a club that everybody knows with a long history.”

“It is cool that such a big club is showing great interest. But of course I know a club like this has many players on its radar,”

“Basel won’t pick up the phone if they are offered less than £13million for me. They say they will only start discussions if the offers are higher than that.

“There is a difference between the Bundesliga and the Premier League. If an English club comes in for me, Basel can suddenly claim £18m.”

The Norway international, who was actually born in Morocco, recently scored a goal and assisted the second when Basel beat Man City in the Champions League, and revealed that Pep Guardiola had even complimented him after the game, which was the first game that City had lost up to then. “Pep Guardiola came to me after the match and said I did a good job. That means a lot to me,” he said, as quoted by Blick.

“Maybe it was because we had less pressure, that we had nothing to lose,” he continued. “They are perhaps the best team in the world.”

It sounds like he would be a bargain buy at just £18m in the current transfer madness, perhaps he could be our replacement for Jack Wilshere?

  1. I would hate at this moment to sign anyone who will prevent Reiss Nelson getting more game time. This boy has everything to be a massive player and reports are suggesting he is not too pleased at being overlooked. Its not surprising. My dear old mum can’t believe Iwobi gets in the team instead of her so you can see how Nelson is feeling

    1. Nelson sucked when he played in the left wing, maybe that was why Iwobi got more chances. Iwobi is not an Mbappe or Salah type of player, but he has very good close control, good stature and a hardworker

Nelson just needs more game time to be a good inverted left winger like Mbappe or Salah. His movements are already very good when he played in the right wing side (as a winger, not a wingback), because he is a natural right footer

Maitland-Niles was also bad as a left fullback, but he is getting better because of more game time

    2. Wenger needs to play Nelson now until the end of the season before another good player leaves our club

  2. If it’s sven seeing him then it’s a good deal,we had incompetent Scouts who recommended average players to the manager. I want Sven to be unearthing the gems for us because we don’t know every player in the small clubs in Europe

    1. I saw Elyounoussi’s performance against Manchester City

He is very sharp with his through and his close control/ movements reminds me of Sanchez’s. He would be a very good number 10

Elneny has also been showing forward, risky and timely passes like this lately. I hope Elneny can keep improving his game and does not always play safe anymore

      1. Oh come on! Elneny has the creativity of an ancient and dyslexic slug. He is a fill in player, bought for £5million , which is peanuts and his real value in todays market. He is tidy but unadventurous in possession and creativity to him is like Trump is to modesty. Complete strangers! NOT REMOTELY GOOD ENOUGH FOR US AND virtually all Gooners know that!

    1. Not anymore it isn’t! We are in the 2nd year running and staring down at another 5th or 6th place finish…yet again! Even Wenger is failing at being Wenger! 4th place was his specialty and now he cant even deliver that. Still, Counsel, PIRES and the rest of their merry band of ambitionless AKBs will still defend him!

      1. Firmly on your side in this but we have NO realistic hope of fifth at all. Chelsea are miles ahead of us and personally, I am looking behind us at Burnley.

  3. Apologies for being off topic. But I have to bring to your attention the fool who is Josh Sippie, who writes Arsenal blogs and his bizarre lauding of Xhaka , calling him our most reliable player in recent months. I can’t believe my eyes , reading such nonsense from a man who constantly writes Gooner articles and is clearly a real fan. True he has had, by his own dreadful standard , slightly better games in the last two/three games. But to call him our most reliable player, honestly, what planet is Josh Sippie on! This dreadful player Xhaka is immobile, cumbersome, doesn’t read danger and those are huge liabilities, True he has a hard shot and when we are on top he can find a long pass. But THAT is about it. And for my money, that is nowhere near enough for the money we paid for him and the fact Wenger regularly picks him. Just Wenger regularly picking him tells me he is rubbish, though my own eyes tell me best of all. I’d welcome peoples comments please.

    1. Loool you know about Pain In The Arsenal as well ?? that site has some dead articles smh barely anybody comments on them anyway and when they do they’re always ripping into the article writers for posting such nonsense ?? Just Arsenal FTW ??

  4. I thought we would be looking at our defence rather than bolstering our attack.
Assuming that Wenger will be at Arsenal.
After this season I can find no reason to keep him on…

    1. Lets hope we start wit a keeper and defenders and Dm before anything else .i would love to c oblak brought in and if athletico lose griezmann to barca maybe lacca could be used in the deal .another player id love to c arsenal get is chiellini who is a free agent the summer i know he is old but what holding and even mustafi could learn off that man would be invaluble .but i think sven mislintat and raul sanllehi have made an improvment on how we conduct our tranfers so hopfully the summer wont be like other transfer winfows long snd drawn out .and of course we need to sign a young athletic centre back and the same in midfield not box to box a midfielder that actully love to protect the defence .have u any player in mind ud like to c us go for ????

  5. I don’t like when players do this, if he was a real fan and believed in his own abilities I’d much prefer he wait until he makes waves and then when half of Europe are chasing him he mentions his love for everything Arsenal. This is not the way to go about it, it’s embarrassing almost, trying to get the papers to plug him and possible Arsenal move together. He’d know if it was Arsenal so that was a stupid thing to say, is it Arsenal?, I don’t know but I would go there and mint it if they asked me to, no sh&t.
