Arsenal loanees set to battle it out today as Wolves face Hull City

Arsenal forward Chuba Akpom who is currently with Hull City on a season-long loan deal is hoping that he can grab his opportunity to show his ability. The teenager feels that coming on loan to Hull has given him chances to impress Arsene Wenger and build towards becoming a first-team regular at the Emirates. Today he is aiming to score his third goal in three games for the Tigers in the big away game at Wolves, but he will have to get past the Gunners third-choice keeper Emi Martinez, who featured in the midweek League Cup win. Isaac Hayden is also expected to start for Hull.

Loan deals are often used to further the education of players who otherwise struggle to get chances at the club. It would generally be with a Championship club and is a win-win scenario. Akpom moved to Hull early this season after realizing that he still has some way to go before becoming a regular.

“I want to work as hard as I can and contribute to the team.” Akpom said. “This is my first full season on loan and that is important because it takes times to settle”

Akpom had a terrific start to his life at Hull as he marked his debut with a goal against Huddersfield Town. In the league cup first round against Accrington Stanley, Akpom came as a substitute and scored another goal.

Akpom already had brief loan spells in the past at Brentford, Coventry City and Nottingham Forest. His spell at Hull comes at a time when they are looking to bounce straight back into the Premier League. The teenage forward is happy that his loan spell gives him the platform to present his case and push his credentials to Wenger. It is very important that he can play more and score well to make the grade at the Emirates.

”I’ve trained with the first team and played games so I’ve had a taster. The main target is to play for the Arsenal first team”

There is always a vacancy for a striker in the Arsenal first team. Olivier Giroud may have been the long standing player in that role but it is public knowledge that Wenger is looking at options to strengthen. If Akpom can prove his credentials, it could help him move to the top of Wenger’s list.

Another interesting factor of todays game, which kicks of at noon on SkySports 5, is that Benik Afobe will be leading the line for Wolves after Wenger sold him off cheaply in January, and then went on to become the highest-scoring player in the country last season. Afobe also scored in the opening game of the season so will be keen to continue his excellent record. This could be a really interesting game for Arsenal fans…

  1. Stats show that since joining Arsenal,
    Ozil has created 150 goal-scoring
    opportunities in the Premier League,
but his team-mates have only been
able to take 14 of them.
And while some of the chances
created may not be clear cut, it does
raise the question – are the likes of
Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott good
enough to finish off the opportunities
    Ozil creates?
    @optastats.

ITS AMAZING HOW PEOPLE JUST ARGUE WITHOUT CHECKING THE STATS.

PLEASE SIGN US A FUC*N STRIKER.

Benzema or abumayeng.if not just a really fast striker..he can share the burden with giroud..

I love giroud but to claim he can fire us to the title ??? really??

    3 seasons still waiting…….

I said it before the westham game…lets just be real.

    # we will crush palace.

    1. @Nayr
The stats are 165 chances created, 16 converted. That wasn’t just to Theo and Olivier. Which means “ALL” of our forward players need to be more clinical in front of goal.

  2. I’ve been really disappointed with Ozil but I saw that stat too and it surprised me. I rate Giroud and think he’s our best striker but he wouldn’t get in the City or Chelsea team and that’s the level we need to aim for.

    1. I rate him too…for the bench along with Walcott and Ramsey …. Mert should have been booted in to touch in May …. But as long as these 4 or 3 of em are part of our starting line up there is absolutely no way we can challenge for top honours … No way …. Not even close …. So again and for the third year running we need a world class striker and winger and a world class DM to challenge for titles ….

  3. Stats don’t give you all the details you need…
For example: there was a time at that westham game that Ozil find himself in a better position to score right inside the box with no defender maulding him but he decided to pass the ball down to Ramsey who is outside the box… Sometimes Ozil find himself in a better position than the player he passes to… Stats will never bring that out… Ozil is just another Hleb with creating chances and no goals… I even prefer Hleb cuz he is a treat in every big games and a nightmare to defenders… Stop covering up Ozil and talk football the way it is. Bashing others and covering the other is bad.

  4. We should be talkin bout how we are going to perform against the eagles, not bout those of our Loanees perfomances in the Wolves vs hull game!….. How does their performances determine the the outcome of today’s game?

  5. I’ve seen Olivier Giroud take some stick for his performance, but the question I’d ask is why, on at least three occasions, was our centre-forward the man running down the left wing looking to get crosses in? To who, exactly? Why was Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain the only player who looked genuinely up for it…. You blamed Giroud for our loss but you forgot he covers more than two position against Westham and saves our a** on three diff setpiece and we conceded only in one setpiece he didn’t get involved in.

  6. Lord Jesus. imagine a front 3 of alex alexis and cavani. all constantly rotating and absolutely lethal in every aspect, speed, dribble, air, shooting. who would you even mark?
wait, why would the opposition defence even show up?

  7. what a useless article! shouldn’t it be about our next game or perhaps new arrivals? I must say again, what a useless article!
