Arsenal man closes in on temporary switch to be reunited with former teammate

Arsenal is in talks with Everton to send Ainsley Maitland-Niles to Merseyside on loan for the rest of this campaign.

The Englishman has been struggling to play for much of the time that Mikel Arteta has been Arsenal’s manager.

The Spanish boss considers him just a squad member who can play in positions that other players are unavailable to fill.

The Athletic claims the Toffees have made a loan proposal to Arsenal for the midfielder who also plays as a left or right full-back.

Maitland-Niles spent the second half of last season on loan at West Brom and he played regularly for the relegated Baggies.

He has returned to the Emirates, where he is down the pecking order and at 24, he should play more regularly.

The report says Arsenal is expected to give Everton feedback in the next few hours as the end of the transfer window draws closer.

If the transfer happens, he would be reunited with Alex Iwobi, who made the move from London to Merseyside as well.

Theo Walcott is another player who has moved from Arsenal to Everton in recent seasons and Maitland-Niles’ move will continue a fine relationship between both clubs.
