Arsenal need to be calm and confident at Huddersfield (especially the defence)

The Gunners desperately need to drag themselves out of our disastrous run of away games, which has seen Arsenal get just one point out of our last five games on the road.

It is amazing we are still in touch with the Top Four race, but Unai Emery is well aware that we need to start playing with confidence away from the Emirates if we are going to stay in the race. He told Arsenal.com: “… I work over the criticisms of me, because I know that work in the present can change our way. How we are doing at home and away, we are with the possibility and the opportunity of taking the top four. But we know it’s not easy.

“One month ago, we were in the same situation and I think we are strong at home. I think we need to do better away. We started very well away, changing also our mentality to get more points away, but now we need to recover this confidence, to recover this performance and the next opportunity is Saturday against Huddersfield.

“We know that defensively we need to do better and it’s for all, the combinations, our best possibility with the defensive combinations. We’ve tried playing with three centre-backs and two centre-backs. We’ve won with three centre-backs and two centre-backs. We have to continue in our way with passion and also stay calm, but above all we must work hard and take a good feeling in training and then show it in the match.

“This week for example, we’ve had good days of training because the feeling of the players and their wish to work every day is good. I want to do the same on Saturday against Huddersfield. After that, we know we can win but if we cannot win it’s different. We need to be confident and take more confidence and continue working.”

To be honest, if we are not confident about playing Huddersfield then we really have no chance at all of staying in the Top Four. Surely this should be our confidence booster?

  1. I’m confident as long Emery uses 3-4-1-2 or 4-1-2-1-2, as it could help both defense and attack

He needs to start the hardworking attackers to tire Huddesfield players out, then capitalizes in the second half

    1. Respectfully disagree with you on that one.

I think 4-1-4-1 is the way to dominate teams if we want to continue playing the Arsenal way at least against smaller teams.

I think Laca will play a little less in the prem now that Europa restarts (even if he’s all-round superior to Auba in my view).

      1. 4-1-4-1 when defending or 4-3-3 when attacking would be good if Arsenal have good wingers

I hope Arsenal would get the high quality ones in the summer, to make them able to use 4-3-3 as what most top teams use nowadays

  2. emery should play mustafi at right back if AMN is not available when we have tough matches e.g man u and totenham and play mavro at CB.
i used to like LIch but he is not pulling his weight. lets hope sokratis comes back on time
that said D.suarez will come good. lot of players played bad in first game. e.g fabregas, rosicky, song etc.
nketia should be given run-out of games says last 10 mins. he needs it.
ramsey should start the game. iwobi is best at a impact sub.

  3. I see him going with his 3-4-3 defensive bullshít against Huddersfield just because it’s away. Our defence is never reliable, it will never be reliable this season. Our best way of moving forward us scoring goals and winning and that means attacking football. Games against lower table team gets harder at this point every season because they all fight to get away from the relegation zone.
Xhaka is still injured, not needed anyway.

  4. if they like let them play 6 defenders or even 8 arsenal should be winning huddesfield if they want top 4

it’s that simple if they can’t win huddesfield then it’s what it is another season outside top 4

  5. Mavroponas should be played against Huddersfield to combat their threat in the air. With a back four of AMN, Mav ,Kocielney and Monreal we will get the three points. If Emery plays Lichsteiner and Mustafi we will lose. Our full backs should make their defensive responsibilities their priority before they consider bombing forward.

  6. Huddersfield are a big strong northern team that use a lot of high balls into the box. We need Jenks at right back to help out with them at set pieces. Auba may not play as he’s been ill this week and whilst we should be winning this game I’m not that confident. I think the final positions at the end of the season will be City, Pool, Totts, Man U, Chelsea, Arse.
    #playozil.

    1. Declan, don’t let us call for him to play Ozil. With him out of the team, nobody will make the defeat about him. We have all heard how he wasn’t important when we were winning and when we lost recently the discussion was it all about him not contributing at all and how he didn’t tactics the coach employed. All I care about is winning and that is what I’m asking for from Emery tomorrow

  7. I’m not going to pretend to be what I’m not, that is a coach. So I don’t know what formation, tactics or players to play to win or lose a game. What I do know is if we play a shitty game like the one we play against pool at anfield or against westham at London Olympic stadium or against city at eithaid or like that rudderless first half we had against cadiff, believe me we are dropping points. Whether it is 2 or 3 I don’t know.

  8. So this is a must win game… I don’t like it when the pressure’s on as that is usually when it goes horribly wrong! I don’t even want to think about what life will be like if we don’t win (a bit dramatic I know, but I can’t help it!)
Le Tissier or Thompson will be watching it on Soccer Saturday & they have nothing good to say about us ? urgh!!
Come on Arsenal… 3 points is all we want!

    1. Sue plus Paul Merson, they are going to have a filled day analysing our game against Man City and the most painful part of it is that they were going to be right. All well and good. Have a lovely day sue.

        1. Every game from now on until the end of the season, is a must win for Arsenal.
Matt Le Tissier, what a player. Always wished he had come to Arsenal, instead of being so loyal to Southampton. I could never understand why he gained so few England caps?

  9. I posted this in another thread and maybe I can get your thoughts on this guys.

    THE PROBLEM WITH OUR INJURIES

I have an idea why our players over the last 10 years keep getting injured or are injury prone. It is BECAUSE they are playing beyond their capabilities in terms of stamina, muscle and bone strength….in other words, they are not playing in their comfort zone. Their body structure is not built to play the game intensely week in, week out that is why the rate of injury is mind blowing. Take them to a slower or weaker league and they would excel with little or no injuries.

    THE SOLUTION:

There are players all over Europe and beyond whose body structure and the way they play fits the intensity of the EPL. These players are naturally hyper-active on the pitch, they run alot, cover alot of ground, have grit, tenacity and fighting spirit on the pitch week in, week out. (e la Torreira?) These players are already in their comfort zone because its the way they play their football and require little or no motivation to do what they know how to do best and they hardly get injured as well.

    OUR MANAGER AND SCOUTING

Our manager and scouting network should look out for such players all over Europe and beyond from attack to defense and look to sign such caliber of players to Arsenal where Unai Emery can express his philosophy better through proper coaching.
Injuries would be a thing of the past because here are a group of players whose comfort zone is that they are naturally fast, with stamina, grit, determination and fighting spirit. ITS NO BRAINIER THAN THIS.

        1. A Hatrick will be nice Sue but that’ll be raising the bar too high I suppose. The lad is fired up for the game against Huddersfield, after his underwhelming performance at city, it’s only right that he atones for it by scoring 2 goals. He has the ability and I hope Emery will give him the chance from start.
