Arsenal have reportedly taken the next significant step in their pursuit of Bruno Guimaraes, with reports stating that direct club-to-club talks have now begun between the Gunners and Newcastle United.
Previous contact regarding the Brazil international had been conducted through intermediaries, but negotiations are now understood to have entered a more formal stage as Arsenal explore the possibility of bringing the 28-year-old midfielder to the Emirates this summer.

We previously discussed reports suggesting Arsenal were well placed to complete a deal after Guimaraes made his desire to join the Premier League champions clear, before examining whether Newcastle could ultimately be persuaded to sell one of their most influential players. According to The Times, Arsenal are currently prepared to offer around £60 million, although it is believed Newcastle’s valuation is closer to £75 million, meaning there is still work to do before any agreement can be reached.
That differs from some of the more speculative reports circulating on social media claiming Arsenal have already submitted a £75 million bid. At this stage, none of the most reliable outlets have confirmed a formal offer has been lodged, with the focus instead on direct negotiations between the two clubs.
We previously reported that Guimaraes had informed Newcastle he wanted to join Arsenal, while the Gunners had begun exploring the framework of a potential deal through intermediaries. The latest development therefore represents a significant shift, with Andrea Berta now attempting to establish whether an agreement can be reached directly with Newcastle.
Newcastle face difficult decision over their captain
Newcastle remain reluctant to lose their captain, who has become one of Eddie Howe’s most influential players since arriving from Lyon in January 2022. Although the Magpies are understood to value Guimaraes highly, reports suggest Arsenal believe there is room for negotiation if both clubs are willing to compromise.
The Brazilian still has two years remaining on his current contract, leaving Newcastle under no immediate pressure to sell. However, if the player maintains his desire to move to North London, Arsenal will hope that ongoing discussions can eventually produce a breakthrough.

As far as I’m concerned, that 60m pound is way too much for a 28/29 year old midfielder who is already at his pick and almost out of it when the likes of Scott is valued at around 80m. Bournemouth would accept £70/75m if put under pressure. Was Bruno not in the blunt Brazil midfield?
He isn’t as good now as when he first went to Newcastle, why? On earlier form he is probably worth more. On last seasons form, not as much. I would be very wary of paying over the odds on a player, not as good or influential as he was. It maybe Newcastle are not as good a team as they was but he has declined with them. There has to be better options out there. They will cost more but better. Or can our scouting team pull out a gem with potential, who could grow.
I think he is an excellent player and will elevate our midfield.
If we can get him for under 75M on three year contract, get two solid seasons out of him, I will take that. I am sure we could still get some good value selling him after 2 years.
