Arsenal overtaken in race for Serie A defender by clubs including Tottenham

It will not come as too much of a surprise to Arsenal fans to learn that one of the players we are reportedly interested in is slipping from our grasp.

It is now being reported that one of the players we have been linked with for the last few weeks, Samprodira’s Joachim Andersen, is also wanted by our bitter local rivals Tottenham and French outfit Lyon.

In fact, Lyon has apparently tabled a bid for £16 Million for the Dane but had that bid rejected. Sampdoria are looking for a fee in the region of £31 Million, a valuation that Arsenal will struggle to meet.

Tottenham wants Andersen in the event that they lose Toby Alderweireld, who may leave the club if the £25 Million release clause in his contract is triggered this summer.

The point being is that Lyon has already tabled a bid while Tottenham remains interested and have more than enough money to outbid us if necessary and all the while we are sat on the sidelines looking on and counting the pennies.

Effectively, Lyon and Tottenham are now ahead of us in this race and unless Arsenal all of a sudden get a cash injection or sell some players it is hard to see how they can emerge the victors in this one.

The more this transfer window progresses the more depressing it all gets and one has to hope that something is going on behind the scenes that we are not aware of.

  1. Typical arsenal. If this guy goes to the spuds I think we will regret this. Having seem how this guy distributes it from the back esp into the wide areas is exactly the kind of cb we need. A 25-28m bid will land this guy for somebody. I belive whoever they are will be happy with spending that kind of money on him.

  2. Let him go to Lyon or Tottenham

There are still Saliba and Upamecano that seem to be better than him

    1. OMG! Is it true? Shocking! I’d say give it to Laca – the only person with some determination and fight. Which means Xhaka is staying with MO, ME, HM too. Dreading 24/8/19 away to Pool. What a phase for AFC supporters and what levels we have stooped to!No better with Raul Sanhelli .And finally somebody is in interested in poor old Jenko!

  3. just read that xhaka might be given the captains armband.
That says a lot about what we have become. A joke

  4. Hopefully next season we’ll see more of him ?
But if we do go onto sell him – that will be yet another major blunder imo

  5. Hmmmm
Where’s Kev when you need him,lol

He should come and calm our frayed nerves down, …even if it’s just with rumours

  6. I do not understand why we are not moving up Krystian Bielik to play.
the guy is good and can only get better as he play. he has the physique, the build, height and he chips in goals like good defenders do. this will be the most annoying thing arsenal will do if this guy goes to another club.

  7. I think it is an overly negative way to present things. You could just as well argue, we are taking the neccessary time to see, if we can offload some of the players, we don’t need, and create a bigger budget to buy even bigger names than Andersen.

And if you look at our biggest competitors in the league, it is not as if they are spending all over the place. So let’s have a little patience.

    1. AndersS, a voice of reason.
I too would like someone (Admin?) to present a list of the signings made by EPL teams so far this transfer window. As with Arsenal there have been a lot of rumours about supposed transfer targets, but few appear to heve been finalized.
Personally I will start worrying after July 31, if no transfers, both in and out, have been completed.

  8. The displays of Bielik during the past few months must have made a favourable impression on the Arsenal management team. While Andersen is a commanding physical presence he lacks mobility and pace and if he was top quality he would surely have become a regular in the Danish international team, which he has failed to do.Saliba,Holding and Bielik are talented young centre backs who could provide a solid structure in defence for years to come and are an upgrade in my view on Mustafi, Socrat is and alas, the aging, injury prone Kocielney who has been a great servant to Arsenal
