Arsenal pair help England to qualify – But only just

While there will be delight in the England under 21 dressing room and on the trip back from Kazakhstan after winning the match to guarantee a place in the European championships which will take place in Poland next summer, at least one of the two Arsenal players in the side will also be breathing a big sigh of relief.

It would have been harsh if England had not won this game as the three lions were dominant pretty much from the first whistle to the last, but they only scored the one goal and a rash late tackle by the young Arsenal defender Rob Holding on the edge of the box could have been very costly for England.

For him as well because the player we signed from Bolton in the summer could have been sent off as he was already on a yellow card after a needless hack on a Kazakhstan player after just five minutes. Thankfully he was not shown a second and then the dangerous free kick was completely wasted.

So Holding and his Arsenal teammate Calum Chambers at the heart of the England defence did keep a clean sheet and even though the scoreline should have been a lot bigger, they will be happy and will be looking forward to the Euros next year.

Could these two be the future of the Arsenal and England defence?

  1. It makes sense from Arsenal’s point of view if Holding and Chambers can get game time together in central defence for England at any level, weather they are the future for England and Arsenal depends on how good they can become.

    1. But we are also citizens of some certain countries.
Am looking forward to seeing Iwobi on Sunday doing well for my country as an Arsenal fan.

So interesting that Holding and Chambers held the fort together for England U-21.
I wish them speedy good progress so that the future will be Mustafi, Holding and Chambers when the Kos retires.
