Arsenal planning to swoop on Tottenham target in the next transfer window

Arsenal to go head to head with Tottenham for the signature of highly regarded defender.

Arsenal is expected to make some signings next month which could include a battle with their bitter rivals, Tottenham.

The defence has been Arsenal’s problem for much of this season as they continue to struggle to stop the goals flowing in.

They have conceded two goals a game in their last five consecutive matches and they haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 11 games.

A report from Footballinsider claims that the Gunners are prepared to beat Tottenham to the January signing of Norwich City’s Ben Godfrey.

Godfrey has been an impressive member of the Norwich City team and has played every game they have competed in the Premier League this season.

The report claims that the Gunners scouted him in their league game against the Canaries last weekend and they were impressed by his performance against them.

Arsenal is not the only team targeting Godfrey as Tottenham boss, Jose Mourinho has apparently made him a target as well.

The Portuguese manager wants Godfrey to come in as a replacement for either Toby Aldewereld or Jan Vetoghen who have both decided not to extend their current deals that will expire at the end of the season.

Godfrey is reportedly worth between £20-25 million and is still very young at the age of just 21 years.

  1. Ozil has been given a consistent run of games in the team and we still look worse with him. Where’s the creativity that he’s supposed to bring? Just 2 assists in over 15 games. No excuses for that underperforming overpaid lazy player anymore. Get him out of the club.

    1. Also we don’t need both Auba and Laca starting at the same time. Drop Laca to the bench and play our best CF…. I don’t care if we have an unhappy player, he should be content with a backup role to Auba in the epl.

    2. Remember it’s never his fault, it’s everyone around him that is failing. As one user on here says, he produces magic. Haha!

    3. hes playing ok……whenever hes playing our chances of scoring goes up…

when hes not…our attack looks flat

having only 2 assists does not mean hes not creating….if the other players do not convert the chances the stats will not increase….

    4. Arsenal don’t have the balls to offload him and made a huge mistake by awarding him a big contract

Real Madrid took the action despite the protests of Ozil’s supporters in their team at that time, such as Benzema and CR7

I hope Arsenal wouldn’t repeat the mistake by hiring James Rodriguez

      1. No one see this coming….

if a player was not offer a contract he leaves…same situation with Sanchez

        Sometimes its a gamble..

Mustafi was a good promising player….

if you recall Kostafi partnership was real solid…2nd best in the league that time…not far off from the first…consecutive matches without conceding till Kos got injured…

Mustafi is also a World Cup winner

Something gone wrong after….hes clearly lacking of confidence…maybe he started drinking/partying like Arshavin or other issues

A lack of confidence can led to severe drop in performance level

      2. That’s because they had just bought Bale and needed to recoup money otherwise he would never have been sold.Try telling the full story not just the bit that you feel makes you look like you know what your talking about.
And TMJW-you obviously know your football.Si how do you explain the chances created are more with Ozil in the side than without?Unless you want him covering as a CDM and CB as well.
And TH14-how wrong I was to continually say your beloved Iwobi would be playing FOR Brentford within 18 months.I x sac could have said AGAINST Brentford as Everton will be down there with then next season. What a difference your boy Iwobi has made to his new Club don’t you think? They were crap before he arrived now they are even worst.Still-with the right coaching Iwobi would be as good as Dennis Bergkamp won’t he? What a mug.

  2. The move is welcome we need to bring in tested EPL players at Arsenal and we will avoid the Pepe situation. We need at least 2 defenders and 2 holding mid fielders and they have to come from within the EPL.

  3. I don’t think this would happen, since we already have many CBs

Unless Arsenal manage to offload Mustafi, Sokratis and Luiz in the summer

    1. Mustafi contract ends at 2021 its likely he will leave in the summer

Sokartis can make a good squad player….same for Luiz he provide the height and area threat….

we need experience centrebacks and good 3rd choice

      1. Sokratis’ aerial ability and pace are not good enough for EPL, whereas Luiz’s are still okay

I don’t think Sokratis and Luiz have any resale value left, but Mustafi is still valuable

  4. I feel its getting harder but what we, Arsenal need is a strong and clever holding midfielder and our defence will improve since it should be everyone’s role on pitch.

  5. Defence starts from the forward line. Hard pressing and a strong hard working DM is required to shield the back four. I think Louis can still offer us something, given his vast experience, title winning player and his aerial threat and movement with the ball. I think Godfrey would be a great signing as the lad has done extremely well in the Norriddge back line. But will we get him?
