Arsenal player ratings from Everton – Iwobi MOTM

Everton v Arsenal Player Ratings….

It was an all round very good team performance from Arsenal to win away to Everton, with notable inputs from a number of Gunners including Hector Bellerin, Laurent Koscielny, Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny and all of the front four, but I have given the nod to Alex Iwobi mainly because it was his first start in the Premier League and that makes his performance even more impressive.

Ospina 7 – Did everything well apart from once when he was still seeing stars.

Bellerin 8 – Swashbuckling attacking game, great assist and still on hand to help defend.

Gabriel 7 – Grew into the game after an iffy start and simply refused to be beaten.

Koscielny 8 – Flawless from the on pitch captain.

Monreal 7 – Less adventurous than our right back but still a very good game.

Coquelin 8 – Getting back to his best and great pairing with Elneny.

Elneny 8 – Ramsey is going to find it hard to get his place back at this rate.

Alexis 8 – Still not quite there but he is getting close. Brilliant assist for opening goal.

Ozil 8 – Some sublime skills and vision from the German as usual.

Iwobi 8.5 – Still a touch raw but well taken goal capped a fine display.

Welbeck 8 – Pace, power and determination gives us so much more scope in attack. Good goal.

subs:
Giroud 7 – Unlucky to have good goal chalked off. Good impact.

Gibbs 6 – Nice cameo.

Chambers 6 – Little time but looked sharp.

  1. Coquelin did 12 interceptions, more than any EPL player in one game. Statistically, he is the MOTM. Iwobi being MOTM is probably some euphoric assesment. Not like I have anything against it. The kid is good.

    1. It’s not just about the numbers, you need to judge how difficult the tackles are to win, and also how well was the reading of the game when intercepting passes. Blocks too, how brave has the player been to throw himself in front. 50/50 duels, and dribbling outcomes. People tend to forget this sometimes, and will automatically say ..well the lad with the most executed numbers should get the nod. Also what needs to be looked at is how well was the ball used after winning it, and positioning, is it clever ..or is it because opponents played it the ball badly. Then any miscued passes, shots, etc by the player in question will need to be accounted. Peoples eyes can sometimes tell them more than what the statistics say. I wrote this with DM in mind, so obviously for strikers, wingers, fullbacks, GKs, CBs, there will be a different and/or new set of Variables or parameters for measuring performances and it’s worth.

  2. Good game, but cant get motm just because of his age and its his first start.

    Coq motm

OT: Leicester and spurs have many tougher games than us, I believe we can just about squeak to the title if other teams do us favours.

    1. The final third is the most difficult are of the field to play in. The boy is a deserving candidate, he gets the nod for me ..just about.

  3. I think it’s safe to say Lukaku was playing with the coins in Gabriel’s pocket…..After seeing Lukaku bully so many defenders in the league, I’m even more happy with Gabriel’s performance…..I still feel that he can improve and become a really dominant defender for us

  4. Iwobi, good play against Barcelona and genius display against Everton, I think dat lad is going to be one genius like his uncle, Jay Jay okocha

    1. How I wish he is having a very strong Jay Jay DNA. Remember how that guy was pulling Bolton out of trouble. But that Iwobi’s goal has slight Jay Jay trade mark. Hope he comes on better.

  5. Kos “the boss” was his usual no nonsense self at the back! Solid performance from our captain!

  6. Iwobi is getting better with every game! Good performance from him yesterday and loved the goal! Coyg!
