Arsenal player ratings for Wolfsburg win – Wilshere MOTM

Although it was not as impressive in general for Arsenal yesterday, there were some good individual performances from players like Walcott, Akpom, Chamberlain and particularly young Reine-Adelaide but our best player for me was Jack Wilshere who was involved in most of our good moves and looks to be getting back to his best.

Cech 8 – Did everything well without being tested much.

Bellerin 7.5 – More of an attacking threat in second half.

Chambers 8 – Our best defender. Comfortable, composed and on the front foot.

Gabriel 7 – One rash tackle but a solid game.

Monreal 7 – Some good stuff but a couple of mistakes.

Arteta 7 – Got better and controlled tempo but nearly put us in trouble once.

Cazorla 7.5 – Quieter than usual from the Spaniard.

Reine-Adelaide 8.5 – Looks like we have a real star of the future. Bold, dynamic and tricky and provided an assist.

Ozil 7.5 – Looked a bit jaded but still showed his class.

Wilshere 9 – Fantastic feet, precision passing and breezed past players with style.

Walcott 8 – Great movement all day and well taken goal after missing a few chances earlier.

subs:

Akpom 7.5 – Great desire and application, keeps on looking the part.

Chamberlain 8 – Brilliant cameo from the Ox who frightened the life out of their left back.

Ramsey 7.5 – Good influence and case made for starting in the middle.

Hayden 7 – Impressive 15 minutes from the youngster.

Giroud 6 – Did not get a chance to do much at all.

  1. For me Rene-Adelaide was MOTM.He was the most impressive and very efficient for a 17 year old.

    1. Can you please tell me what Wiltshire sid to deserve MOTM?you trying to push Wiltshire in every occasion he plays and you are the only one who think he was MOTM!!!,you the new boy Adelaide playing?give credit to the boy.

  2. Monreal was great.

    what couple of mistakes?

did you watch the game or you just decided to write ratings.

    give credit where its due.

    chambers MOTM.

  3. 7 for Arteta? You’re having a laugh. 5 would be too generous.

    Giroud was disappointing.

I’m looking forward to seeing more of ADELAIDE

    1. Its not just Arteta, I’d say allot of those ratings are a little inflated. It was a very stop start kinda game. Adelaide Chambers Cech are probably the only ones deserving high ratings. Not that the others where poor its just that they can do plenty better. Nice finish by Theo.

  4. Thinking about how fast we could be

    Cech
    Bellerin Chambers Kos Gibbs
    Coquelin Ox
    Ozil
    Walcott Akpom Alexis

Would be fun to watch anyway. Adelaide looks like the real deal. He could contribute soon I think. Impressed with almost everyone. Ozil, Ox, Wilshere, Adelaide especially.

The young guys looked good. Akpom was lost on the wing, but was pretty impressive through the middle. Needs to get the ball away quicker. Hayden looked good as a DM. Could see time on the bench as a utility midfielder/defender. Iwobi also looked unsure on the wing sitting back pretty deep, but grew into the game and was good going forward. Adelaide was impressive. Good athleticism and size, Excellent skills on the ball. Raw passing, inconsistent with weighted passes but makes good decisions and has good ideas.

On a more serious note, how bad do you feel for LB’s that have to face Bellerin and Walcott/Ox?

    1. To be fair I think the LB’s will be more sympathetic towards the other side, who’ll most likely have to deal with Sanchez and Gibbs/Monreal!!

      1. Well that’s strange, I feel sorry for the CBs who have to face the full brunt of the Arsenal.

  5. With a lot of our youngsters looking good during this pre season our future is looking really great but hasnt it been looking great for the past decade? The likes of Akpom, Iwobi, Adelaide and Hayden have shown what great prospects they are but if we think a couple of decent performances in pre season matches proves they are good enough to get us the EPL then we are certainly naive. Even Barca who have the best youth system in Europe dont rely on their feeder team to provide the quality they need to win trophies. These young gunners should be sent out on loan to get the experience they badly need and Walcot should be shifted back to the wings where he belongs then Wenger should go out there and get us a worldclass striker and a quality DM as competition for Coq if we are really serious about winning the EPL. The funds are currently avaliable so he has no excuse.

    1. Walcott does not belongs to wings anymore, how well he will do as a striker?? Time will tell.

      1. Wenger, has not and I don’t think ever will, limited a player to the one position if they can contribute in others as well. He’ll continue to look to field the best team and we have a striker in great form Theo will play from a wider position. We don’t play wingers. Theo plays as a supporting forward where he is actually pretty deadly!

        1. Well, the last time i checked the talent that Barcelona graduated from their youth system that made them the most successful club in the past ten years were graduated close to ten years ago (Xavi, Iniesta, Messi etc.) Ever since they have depended mostly on the aquisition of quality players from elsewhere to sustain their success and this transfer window goes further to prove that point

    2. Ok.. So mentioning Barca doesn’t really help your cause. The most successful team over the past decade with over half their squad being produced from their youth academy?? They don’t have to rely on it because it’s already produced the majority of a squad that’s arguably one of the best the world’s ever seen!!
Just last season we saw Coquelin and Bellerin emerge as products of our academy. Heck, one of them was struggling to break into a first team in the lower leagues!! I think some fans struggle to comprehend that just because we see these fringe players on a very limited basis, Wenger and Co. actually work with these players for the majority of the week. Yes, we’ve only seen a couple of good performances, except the average fan has no idea if they’re not training their guts out for hours upon hours every week, working on all aspects of their game and are in the position where they can contribute at the top level.
If the start of last season it had been reported that we were selling Coquelin for 500k no-one would’ve battered an eyelid. After half a season in the first-team if we were selling him this window for 30million there would be uproar.
Yes, I completely agree that our academy should not be the first place we look for strengthening our team, nor do I think that’s what’s happening this window in the case of strengthening this window. But you mention naivety… I personally think the naive thing is that you, personally think you’re equipped enough to evaluate the likelihood of players contributions based on pre-season friendlies..

      1. Well, the last time i checked the talent that Barcelona graduated from their youth system that made them the most successful club in the past ten years were graduated close to ten years ago (Xavi, Iniesta, Messi etc.) Ever since they have depended mostly on the aquisition of quality players from elsewhere to sustain their success and this transfer window goes further to prove this point

        1. More that they changed their model to go with the ridiculous talent they produced in that window. They have sold off some incredibly talented players that have blossomed elsewhere, such as Bellerin, and have decided to surround the core that came from their academy with players that can win titles the next few years, constantly reloading to stay at the top,

  6. oh man Wilshere made errors,i wonder if he would ever stop running into walls and retaining the ball for too long. Hoping to see Adelaide in our cup matches, the boy’s got talent

    1. Agreed. Jack did some good stuff then gave the ball away too often trying to be too intricate.
Can’t see him making first choice MF this season. Cazorla, Ozil and Ramsey ahead of him for their impact.
Thought Cech was MOTM in second half – he is so calm and so in control of the last third of the pitch. You could see his calmness and control spreading to the back four .
Also agree we need back-up for LeCoq
      COYG

      1. Agreed, also I liked when Cech told Theo to move off the back post to pick up a man and then ending up blocking that mans run for a free header. Little things like that can make up in a big way.

  7. We have got many goalscorers in the team, the priority should be a DM cover for le coq. We will always score goals no matter how many players we have injured, we just need to maintain our defensive shape thru put the season. Le coq cant Play 50+ matches without getting injured or losing form.
Anyways, things look better then ever.

    1. Things are looking good indeed. I can comfortably say this has been our best pre-season for a long time.

      Bring on Chelsea.

  8. Adelaide reminds me of Diaby. A very tricky player. Good to have him on our side along with Crowley, Iwobi, Zelalem, Martinez, Hayden, Bielik, Dragomir, etc. Wow, we have a bunch of talented young players.

    1. They are talented but they need to start playing top competitive matches to improve…..

you dont see top players like Zidane, Messi or Ronald improve by warming the benches for seasons…………

    2. yeah but are they just the new afobes, eisfelds, torals, olssons? not all of those guys will make it, hopefully maybe 2 or something?

  9. It would be a shame (nay a crime) not to have a rotation partner for Coquelin. Do we have to wait until he is injured or runs out of steam to rest him? I`m not saying we run out and buy a backup but it would be nice to hear Wenger`s thoughts on the matter. Maybe he has a planned reserve in the squad already? From the recent performance of some of our youngsters I`d say a star or two is about to shine this season.

  10. Adelaide needs to go on a loan for at least 2 seasons….where he can play regularly and learn….

    1. Not this season, he just joined. He will be taught on the way Arsenal play with the first team and play U21 games. The season after he can leave on loan, at teams with playing style similar to us.
      Arsene said the same yesterday

      1. he needs to play quality and competitive top tier games to improve…

he can always got to teams that has similar playing style…

Players like Sanchez, Ozil and Carzola did not play with our U21 before able to play in our first team

  11. dint watch da match bt on watching da highlights dis new boy was part ov everi attack n deserves the motm.
i think akpom should b loaned to a PL club coz he nids xperience..i love his speed tho…
i dont knw y wilshere z world class for england bt for arsenal hiz smhw ordinary n struggles….wenger shuld find out da boyz best position b4 we lose a future legend

  12. Let’s just take a breath and relax a bit with Jeff. He looked great. We probably won’t see much of him this year. So when someone struggles I assume we will see “Why is Adelaide not playing, he was good in one pre season game.” The kid looked great. Let’s not rush it. Zelalem looked great a while back and regressed a great deal under the pressure. I don’t even want to address Hafiz Rahman as he is clearly a troll, but a loan doesn’t solve every problem. I actually think training with the first team and taking tips from people like Alexis will help the kid more.

    1. But if you look at our squad now, I personally don’t think Ramsey, Wilshere and Ox are in our strongest starting XI. (Just in ramsey’s case..) That’s saying something!!
Players like Zelalem and Crowley are such great prospects because of their intelligence, but unfortunately bar a massive, massive development they’re playing behind Ozil and Cazorla who’s intelligence as players is world-class.
