Arsenal player ratings from FA cup v Sunderland – Ox MOTM

He may not have actually scored or provided the assist for any of the three goals Arsenal scored against Sunderland yesterday in order to progress to the next round of the FA cup, but I believe that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was the best player on the pitch. After a tough and stop-start season so far the Ox really stepped up and played with great energy, drive and skill and that long range inch perfect pass to Bellerin in the build up to Ramsey’s goal was a thing of beauty.

Cech 8 – Made some good saves and in control as ever.

Bellerin 8 – Caused havoc down the right, two assists and the second for Giroud was sublime.

Gabriel 7.5 – Solid and sharp game from the Brazilian.

Koscielny 7 – Recovered well after mistake for the opener.

Gibbs 7.5 – Great game apart from the mix up with Koscielny and I think the Frenchman was more at fault.

Chambers 7 – Pretty good from a player learning his position.

Chamberlain 9 – Brilliant. Must play more now.

Campbell 8.5 – Keeps getting better and looks a real Arsenal player now. Great goal.

Iwobi 8 – Excellent from the youngster with a bright future.

Walcott 7 – Not involved enough but some very good moments.

Giroud 7.5 . Took his goal well but needed to do more.

subs:
Ramsey 8 – Great impact and goal from the Welshman.

Arteta 7 – Good to see the captain back and zipping the ball around.

Reine-Adelaide 7 – Only 10 minutes but looked impressive.

  1. OX MOTM? Is it the same game I watched? Ox had a bad first half but a better second half. Overall, He played well but my MOTM got to be Bellerin. Campbell comes close…….

    1. Any of these three could have picked the MOTM. Be at peace. At least it was not Kos taking the title. Not after this game though. Lets hope he will shine next game.

    2. Im pretty sure Admin meant this article as a joke. As much as I wont diss Ox, he definitely wasnt MOTM.

    3. A 9 that’s more than Ozil would get. Bob ya got to be Oxy,s best friend you certinaly don’t know football. CB

  2. OX MOTM thats banter, he needs to up his game been awful past seasons and campbell has been outscoring and outperforming him. Bellerin was absolute class and my MOTM.

  3. Ok MOTM? Which game were you watching. Unfortunately such biased articles do not help players like Ox to develop. That’s why he should go on loan overseas where he can really develop without a pampering media.

  4. Joel Campbell is good but arsenal fans never cease to amaze me.They never make up their mind they wait for the player to have a dip in form and then insult and criticize him and say childish things. Then when he does well they pretend like they were always in support of him.I remember always saying here first that Szczesny is a better goalkeeper than Ospina.I also proudly defended Szczesny everytime they aimed at him.How i wish he started at Chelsea or any other team and i bet you he would not be this error prone.I know forever he will always be better than Ospina and that is a fact not even an opinion. For Campbell vs Ox its there for everyone to see Ox would eventually win the battle come one day.But injuries have made him so unlucky. He should go to Chelsea where he would be better taken care of and would make people eat their words.

    1. yeah because Chelsea are so good at developping players.. lol

But I agree with you it’s amazing how fast people jump on a players back. Luckily Wenger is not that way. Ox will come good and make those ‘fans’ eat their words just like Ramsey did.

  5. Ox was great actually bar some misplaced passes. The way the fans are going too harsh on him isn’t fair.

  6. Think that this rating was created for controversy – ox did have a good second half but was low in confidence in the first.

Truly think he needs a goal to give him confidence, hopefully then he can build and progress and take that in to the next game – ox will come good just needs to get it into his head that he can.

    Bellerin for me was MOTM

    1. Emotion is no good Oxy has reached his level and it’s not Premier lg standard. He is a likeable guy but not Arsenal quality. Best to be loaned out for a year then asses his progress for staying. CB

  7. Don’t agree with the ratings at all. As much as I like them, I thought Giroud and Walcott were nonexistent yesterday. Iwobi and Reine-Adelaide were decent but obviously not ready for the first team. I thought Chambers was actually very good as a DM and could definitely see him maturing into a quality utility player. It was obvious that we were playing a weakened team because we lacked that creative spark until Ramsey came on who I thought was absolutely fantastic. Very pleasing to brush aside a premier league team with only a few first team players in the line up and to give Ozil ,and to a lesser extent, Ramsey a rest.

    1. Yeah, Giroud could’ve dropped deeper sometimes to receive the ball. He was out of the game for large portions. Our crosses in the box weren’t the best yesterday though until Bellerin had that amazing finish to the game. Glad Giroud got on the scoresheet though cause he was going through a mini-drought. Hopefully that goal keeps him confident for Liverpool game.

  8. Ox had his moments as did many of our flyers. For me Ox needs to just add discipline, he needs to know when to take players on at right time with cover behind him in midfield. That is his achilles, looking to take players on without a knack of sensing danger, it come naturally to most players but it looks like something Ox needs to work on or think about. Keeping a solid shape and choosing specific times for release of handbrake and I’m sure many will see a wonderfully talented player.

Mom is a difficult one, Bellerin probably does just about edge it due to end product. With the game as a whole though they all had their ups and downs. If Ramsey had started I would of chose himself if consistent. Campbell was a real danger worrying the heck out of them, as was Ox and Gibbs. Walcott was the only player who went missing fore large periods. Should not forget that all these lads haven’t played together like that before now, so done well to gel. Plenty of positives to take from the game, what you’d expect from the current and overall holders of FA cup triumphs.

  9. Chambers deserved a bit better then 7, I thought he played realy well it’s been a while so hope he can continue and to further develop,
And just to add another thought as I said before I think he can make a great DM his strong and aggressive, hope AW can develop him in that area.

  10. I am concerned with barcelona already. old nemisis is again after our players.

Ramsey they can bec he has no room in our syste, but bellerin is the guy we are going to have a bad time to keep him.

  11. Chamberlain 9 give me a break, i love him as a player, but he is going through a bad time, same with walcott. we need to use ramsey on the wings again where he can play more freely and find a new cm asap.

  12. The Ox, MOTM?! Not even close. I would pick Campbell or Bellerin. Ox needs to work on his decision making abilities.

  13. Ox MOTM? Laughable. He was poor 1st half. Better 2nd, but nothing to rave about. He just wasn’t horrible for once. Campbell is MOTM for me, but bellerin is also worthy. And Ramsey completely changed the game for us. Ox has a ton of things to work on.

  14. 1. Bellerin MOTM all the way IMO. His crosses made it so easy for Ramsey and Giroud.
    2. Chambers played well, I see him as our backup to Le Coq, as well as being 4th center back and emergency right back. I can see both Chambers and Le Coq on the field at the same time when seeing out a game.
    3. When we get more of our injured players back there is no excuse for overplaying the first XI anymore, now that Campbell and Chambers have shown they can play well.

I’m also thinking we might not need to be fearing all our away fixtures so much. Liverpool, Everton and United are not impressing this season, leaving Tottenham and Man City as the only ones where we would be facing an in form team on the road. The cliche that there are no easy fixtures in the PL is true, but that doesn’t mean we should be a bundle of nerves about tough fixtures.

If injury situation improves as we are being told, I am highly optimistic. Even an EPL-FA cup double is not out of the question.

  15. There is no way on earth Ox could have been the MOTM. MOTM was between Campbell and Bellerin. Ox’s final decisions and most especially his final touches need great improvement.

  16. Ox plays too much schoolboy football? and as long as English Press and Fans keep giving them rating like dis one, Him, Walcott, Gibbs, will never become world class
