Arsenal player ratings from FA cup win at Sutton – Lucas MOTM

Apart from the keeper who had a bit of a shocker with two big errors which he was lucky to get away with, this FA cup win for Arsenal over Sutton United came through a good team performance against an impressive and committed home team. Lucas Perez was sharp all night and for me just edged out the Ox for our Man of the Match.

Ospina 4 – What. Was. He. Thinking? Twice.

Gabriel 6 – Got forward as much as possible and solid in defence.

Mustafi 6 – Decent game and stood up to pressure well.

Holding 6 – Recovered to play well after early scare when he was almost caught on the ball.

Monreal 7 – Involved in most things. Good show from the Spaniard.

Elneny 6 – Busy and effective but picked up a knock.

Xhaka 6 – Sprayed some good passes around but at times the game passed him by. Good discipline after early booking.

Reine-Adelaide 6 – Grew into game and showed some of his potential.

Lucas 8 – Sharp, influential and dangerous. Good goal settled us down and on way to win.

Iwobi 6 – Decent but struggled to really impact game. Bad tackle slowed him down.

Walcott 7 – Pace and movement always a threat and took his 100th goal well.

subs:

Oxlade-Chamberlain 7.5 – Arsenal looked much better after he came on. Impressive and dynamic.

Maitland-Niles 6 – Pretty good cameo from the youngster.

Alexis 7 – Unlucky not to score in his short spell.

  1. Just about everybody and their Auntie, keep going on about Holding. But to me the best young defensive player is Maitland-Niles. I’d go as far as saying, he’s the best young player we have at the moment…

    1. seriously? so some of you need another 4years to start saying wenger out??

      Wenger must go!!

The House of Rahman has spoken

  2. It was a performance that suggests that bayern actually played badly when they faced us
the rest of the players deserve 3s in my opinion and ospina a big zero

  3. We won a game but not on performance if that was any other team we would have lost but at least we showed a bit off aggression we gave away good few free kicks 12 days to regroup hope these 12 days will be used on training and analogizing

  4. Ox was my MOTM, closely followed by Theo who always looked dangerous. I really like the look of Holding, sorry NY_gunner, and I want to see him get more premier league game time. Reine-Adelaide was hugely disappointing after playing so well against Southampton. Alexis was a liability when he came on, encouraging Holding to try and dribble through midfield. As for the rest….mer!

  5. Reine-Adelaide 6 – Grew into game and showed some of his potential? Are we kidding ourselves? Playing against part timers we looked average to said the most. Do not come with the garbage of the 3G turf. Adelaide looks like Diaby in style of play so lanky. slow and as usual passing side ways and backwards. What was his role yesterday night? 2 holding midfielders again a pie eater team? the only one who came out good was Lucas for his effort and closing down. theo , Captain? what was his contribution apart from the goal? Anyway, those happy with the win may assure you it was not a game to see any improvements. Our scout team is crap..our academy is not bringing the amount of players to the first team as expected. iwobi has been below par from the start of the year and should be benched and give a chance to Lucas on the wing. we got a week and half until mighty Liverpool game then Bayern so lot rest and work to get something form those two games.

  6. I guess I must have been watching a different game. Iwobi and Jeff were horrendous. At times I didn’t even know they were on the pitch. Iwobi provided zero threat going forward, and didn’t do much in support of the back four either. Jeff was our number 10 for the night, yet he did practically nothing creative up front. IMHO, both of them deserve no more than a 3. Ox provided some energy, but I lost count how many misplaced balls he had. He gets a 4. Our defense, and midfield had an okay game. Holding and Mustafi had a couple of nervy moments, but overall weren’t tested much. Same goes for Monreal and Gabriel. Xhaka with good distribution. They all get 6’s. Walcott gets a 7, but only for scoring his 100th Arsenal goal. Lucas was good. He was actually very good. A little rusty due to not getting a lot of playing time, but he was involved in virtually everything going forward. Solid 8. And Ospina – he gets a big fat O. Extremely poor display from someone who some people say should be our number 1 keeper.
