Arsenal player ratings from NLD draw – Ozil MOTM

Even though the summer signing Granit Xhaka had probably his best game in an Arsenal shirt since his transfer from the Bundesliga, I thought that Mesut Ozil just edged him as our best player in the draw with Tottenham yesterday. The German did produce the wicked free kick that led to our goal, after all, and Xhaka blaxed a shot over the bar when a pass was the better option.

Cech 7 – Close to saving Kane’s penalty and apart from one slip he was in control.

Bellerin 7 – A few great defensive moves and got forward well.

Mustafi 5 – His worst game as a Gunner. Hopefully a blip.

Koscielny 6 – Dealt well with Kane but his mistake was very costly. Unusual lack of calmness.

Monreal 7 – Very good return from the Spaniard with one brilliant block to deny Kane.

Coquelin 7 – Impressive and important contribution again. I can understand his frustration at being replaced.

Xhaka 7.5 – Put himself about well, disciplined and 82 percent passing accuracy. Good job.

Ozil 8 – All our good stuff came through the German and he even got stuck in when needed.

Walcott 7 Unlucky not to score, good work and movement but not enough impact.

Iwobi 5 – Poor game from the youngster. Got better before going off but perhaps needs some time out.

Alexis Sanchez 7 – Worked hard without his usual impact. Starved of scoring chances.

subs:

Ramsey 6 – Decent intro from the Welshman who tried to spark the team.

Giroud and Ox 5 – Struggled to have an influence.

Bob.

  1. Good rating for the one missing half of the game. But hey, is your opinion. You should have went with the obvious, if there was some consistency then it came from Xhaka.

  2. Xhaka was MOTM, no doubt about it. He was the only consistent player yesterday. Maybe a shout for Bellerin.

But Cech literally was NOT in control. If you look at the replay again from the penalty, he dived way too early, even I could’ve scored when he jumps that early. In addition to that slip, he was no where to be found in that free kick which hit the post, could’ve cost us the 1 point. He did pull one great save from that Eriksen effort though.

  3. Bit harsh on Mustaffi,I think. Maybe by his own very high standards perhaps a 7,but still a lot of energy and good anticipation. Anyone agree that Vertongen is a serial cheat. Not just against us but he gets away with murder in the penalty area. Always pushing, holding, leaning, shirt tugging etc. Making out that he is innocent and that contact is purely accidental. When Erikson took that free klck he shoved Kos so hard in the back that he collided with others in the pack and had no chance to defend.

  4. Ozil was the man of the match? I apologize Bob, but I think you are trying to incite arguments among the visitors of this website. Most of the times, Ozil could not keep the ball and most of his passes were inaccurate. In the first 30 minutes against Tottenham, when we played with direct and quick football, he was great, because he is very suitable for that style, like what he did in Real Madrid. But after that first 30 minutes, we became slower, and he could not adapt.

He has a very good technique, as shown by that one Maradona goal against Ludogorets. But most of the times, we need players with high battle spirit and the ones that are able to possess the ball more. For me, the man of the match was Sanchez. He was very dangerous as usual. Too bad nobody can finish his key passes.

  5. off topic guys quick question where do the players who havent recieved international call ups go to?? holiday or what??

  6. there is no way ozil is motm.. its surprising nobody has mentioned coquelin as motm.. before he was substituted, he was the only one in midfield pressing and winning tackles

  7. and I don’t get how Xhaka gets MOTM from some fans… if he was that good in the game we won’t feel the absence and keep saying ‘we missed Cazorla’

  8. I’m Ozil’s biggest fan, but there’s no way he deserves a MOTM award. Xhaka had a decent game. Bellerin too. Monreal was his usual Mr. Consistent. Coquelin played well. And I’ll give a shout out to Theo, who tried really hard, and was a bit unlucky striking that post. Ozil was okay for about 30 minutes of the first half, but then disappeared, just like most of our players did. And as for the bad – Ox, and Ramsey should take a good look at themselves in the mirror. Embarrassing would probably be an understatement.

  9. Nobody deserve 5 and abive. Lets not pimp mediocracy here. No. MoT should get a 6. The rest 5 and below. And Bob stop openly parading yourself in a manner likely to be construed or suggest that some players no mattercmust be MOT. Fairness in assesement is key to improvement. No sugar coating please Bob

  10. Bellerin 7? No, Son was unmarked with him nowhere near him on several occasions. 5.5
Ozil and Walcott 6.5’s for me. Wasn’t their best of games.
Kos has to get a 5 for a silly decision that ultimately cost us points. A few set-pieces that our CB’s were nowhere near as well that we were very, very, very lucky not to concede from.
Xhaka and Monreal deserved 8’s. Class and kept us in it.
