Arsenal player ratings v Wolves – No generosity today

Another disappointing Arsenal result and there is enough blame to be shared around

Can anyone really say they are surprised by what we witnessed today? I mean, genuinely that performance basically epitomises Arenal this season.

Yet another game that the defence is unable to hold on to a lead. I am starting to wonder if it is all mental because the squad is strong enough to be beating teams like Wolves at the Emirates.

Anyway, let’s get on with the ratings and today I will not be generous.

Ratings

Leno 7
All I will say is that if it was not for Leno we could have lost that game.

Tierney 6
Got skinned down the left at the start but adapted his game and started defending differently. He is still coming to terms with his new surroundings and overall, was the best defender today.

Luiz 5
Completely average. He is in no way the solution to the defensive problems at Arsenal.

Sokratis 5
He again proved today that he is a world-class moaner and a poor defender. At least he is consistent.

Chambers 5
Poor game but then he is being played out of position down the right and has much better claims to a central defence position than either Sokratis or Luiz.

Torreira 5
Not really his fault that he had a poor game today. I have no idea where he was supposed to be playing and I doubt he knows either. He is a defensive midfielder and yet at times was more forward than either Ceballos or Ozil.

Gunedouzi 4
Poor game from the young Frenchman. He did play in his correct position but offered very little the whole game. Time Joe Willock is given as many opportunities as Guendouzi.

Ceballos 4
What can I say? He has had just one quality game all season. I no longer believe the hype.

Ozil 5
Started off bright but as usual with the German, he faded and for all his little tricks, what did he actually offer?

Lacazette 5
Started brightly but then just faded. It is hard to shine when you are starved of service. That alone tells you the sort of game Ceballos and Ozil had, I mean, they are supposed to be the creators.

Aubaameyang 5
Literally what I wrote about Lacazette could apply here so, ditto.

Subs.

Martinelli 5
Average really, not the best game for him to show off his undoubted talent.

Saka 5
Strange sub to be honest but he did ok when brought on.

Kolasinac 5
Gets a 5 as an average mark because he was not on long enough

Manager

Emery 2
Team right, subs and formation wrong. Says it all.

So, in conclusion, the keeper was the Arsenal man of the match. A sad reflection on Arsenal at home.

  1. Too be sincere emery killed the game as usuall with is wrong sub,why would he take of torrera for saka when he is leading, we lost the mid feild cause of dat. Tierny also did well hilding adama traore all throgh d match. You too harsh on ozil, he had a nice game, tackle well and passes are accurate, he is ozil man not kante dont expect him to be always every where

    1. If unay wanted power up front y not pepe in for ceballos he could have out run defenders n creat openings what a know nothing coach

  2. In general I agree with the ratings except for the strikers. Our midfield was pathetic giving no decent balls to the forwardd
Martinelli was winning tackles in our box because we were that bad.
We got to see ozil be his normal self again today with another invisible performance.
However the worst performer today was our manager. Bringing on sako after his midweek performance and changing a left back for a left back when we were 1-0 up. Where was pepe? Its embarrassing to watch.

  3. I am not even mad, most of our players were above average today.

But we have a coach that can’t read and kill the game from the bench and even complicated the game by wrong substitution. We are better off with no substitution at all.

The obvious flop of the match is Emery, he confused.

  4. Sokratis is not good enough physically to play for a top EPL club, hence he has to resort to his dirty methods

Ceballos actually played well, made a few tackles and sharp through balls, apart from his weak marking. If Ozil is allowed to forget his defensive duties, the other creative players should be allowed to do so too

Ozil didn’t make any mistake, but he didn’t offer anything special as well. We need spirited players that can carry the team and I predict some of our young players would do it next season

    1. Ceballos was at fault for their goal that took 2 points off us while Ozil was decent. Not good, but had a few excellent plays that others didn’t take advantage from – like the pass to Laca where he shot instead of a return pass and especially the break through close to the goal when he passed towards Martinelli and almost ended up being a goal.

Ozil was not bad defensively, actually. Mediocre, which is his best sadly. The problem was that Torreira was AGAIN playing too close to their goal on so many occasions. HE is the primary DM because his can tackle, not Guen who is mediocre defensively.

  5. my heart has been broken by the players mentality, they need to be strong, if not Leicester will purnish our vulnerability at the defense, l now hope for a draw against Leicester.

  6. Anyone surprised we didn’t win?
Then to hear Emery say his tactics worked today? Where? How? Didn’t he notice all their shots on goal?

How bizarre for that clown to defend those tactics; another diamond midfield that didn’t work, another lead they couldn’t hold.

Surely something has to be done. Pep and Klopp find ways to win, Emery finds ways to lose.

It has taken Emery less than 18 months to do what took Wenger 20 years; collapse. Despite over £200 million in transfers Emery still finds ways to fail.

How long can management wait? Wenger sacked after missing CL twice. Surely Emery has to be gone if there is any standard or ambition from management and ownership.

    1. Wenger missed out TWICE because of bad luck. The season before the last we got 75 points which in every single EPL season before and after was enough for top 4. It was not his fault other top teams played well.

Now tell me, do you see Emery getting 75 points this year even with a better squad Wenger had?
Even with unattractice football, it would be an achievement.

  7. I’m not even sure what hurt more today, us dropping points from a winning position, or Liverpool and City both snatching victory from the jaws of defeat…. then Chelsea won too…. I’m just pissed…. Josh, Raul, and Vinai all need brain checks if Emery is still manager after this month.

    1. @AY75
It was those 3 muppets who hired this clown in the first place. They’re not going to sack him, because that makes them look like the clueless muppets they are… They care zero about AFC. To them its just another job.

  8. Emery should just bite the bullet and bench Lacazette. Aubameyang is a better center foward and trying to play them both exposes our flanks too much. Tierney had a torrid time trying to keep up with Adama Traore. Chambers as well struggled in his respective flank.

    1. Tierney got skinned once in the opening minutes – beyond that he wasn’t beaten, yes it was a tough match up for him but he more than held his own 🤷‍♂️

      1. Okay but we need our fullbacks supporting the attacks well and peppering the opposition box with crosses. They cannot do this if they are bogged down by excessive defensive duties.

        1. And they did to a certain degree but we were set up to counter attack so their defensive duties were main priority 🤷‍♂️

    2. It’s the bloody diamond formation that IT loves (clown of a manager) which was why Tierney and Chambers were slaughtered at the start but at least Tierney adapted. And stop playing Torreira as an attacking mid, Cebbalos had a poor game but all the midfielders are lost in this diamond formation, at times they were running into each other AND ease get your players to tackle! 3 arsenal around 1 opp player and he still gets through or puts in a pass/cross, where’s the press and pressure you told us you’d play?

  9. The prospect of Socratis trying to contain Vardy next week fills me with despair.Surely Emery will realize that he is the weakest link in a team which is capable of conceding goals in situations which would not cause schoolboys any concern. That may be an exaggeration but the Jiminez goal today is a classic example of how not to defend.Obviously the basic tactics of marking the player rather than watching the ball is never discussed at training sessions.Until Socratis and for that matter Luis are removed we will continue to shed goals and points.

  10. Not surprised it was another flat performance. Emery hasn’t got a clue how to use the players he’s got. Please let’s just get rid before top 4 is completely out of our sight. If we drop more point against Leicester, the plug HAS to be pulled. Enough.

  11. Such negativity 😂
We just going to pretend that Wolves didn’t put up a stubborn defence?
They made 21 clearances from right in front of their goal and almost every single one had one of our players waiting for it….. They made 16 interceptions of which roughly 10 were against dangerous looking passes in the final third 🤷‍♂️

They took 25 shots – 13 blocked, 4 off target, 8 on target. 2 of which were long range efforts, 1 was from a pretty poor angle way out wide just inside the box, 5 were in front of the goal – one or two of which were tame shots 🤷‍♂️

Yet people want to act like they tore us apart?

    1. Stats are there to be abused

You. Don’t say we only took 10 shots with 4 on target makes your figures look different now hey!!!

Oh and we were at home

      1. Not really – I didn’t need to say our woeful stats as everyone else has been saying those 🤷‍♂️

I was pointing out what wolves did to stop us getting more shots away and pointing out that 25 shots against us sounds a lot until you break it down into actual chances.

Just like our 10 shots break down to 5 off target, 1 blocked and the other 4 were all from dangerous positions inside their box….. We had almost the exact same clear cut chances as they did, they just did better at shutting us out before we got the shot away 🤷‍♂️

        1. Not really we had 4 shots on target
They had 8 twice as many
This suggests they had superiority “away from home”

So In essence they were better

          1. 8 shots – 2 long range and one from poor angle – 5 in dangerous positions in the box.

4 shots – all dangerous positions in the box

So yes whilst they got more shots away they only managed one more from a dangerous position the rest were hopeful more than dangerous.

Meanwhile there defence was just tighter than ours was, they managed to get in the way or clear it before we got the shot off, fraction slower at times and our shots taken number would have been much higher and from dangerous positions – it’s not like we were just aimlessly passing it sideways all the time like we have in previous matches, we were always looking dangerous.

  12. Wenger knew the reason he used Lacazette as a supersub, auba and Laca have failed to make a strong partnership. I would prefer to play one and bench the other according to their performance. We need Ozil’s creativity, i’ve realized Cebalos cant fit in Ramsey’s shoes, his no near him Cebalos is just another guy fulfilling fixtures. We made a mistake to let Rambo go

  13. The midfielders don’t cover the defence very well do they, if they did Wolves wouldn’t have 25 shots. I think its best to put David Luiz in there along with Guendouzi and Torreira further up or Guendouzi further up and Torreira along with David Luiz. At least this way you can spray passes from deep within and have holding player in CDM and also keep the ball rolling, building from the back.

Torreira and Guendouzi although good players stray out of position too many times, I don’t know if that is the plan, but if they sat in midfield and let everyone else attack infront of them, we would concede less shots.

    1. I agree entirely. This was the right opportunity to play Bellerin. Chambers. Holding. Tierney. With luiz & Totterira DMFs. Unai failed there then decides to compound the issue by bringing on Saks 4 Torreria & kol for tierney. Guys lost the plot. He has to go. No plan. No structure & Arsenal do not play counter attack football. We go forward with purpose.

    2. Totally, Luis and Torreira team up as DM. Luis can break play in the middle and protect the dedence. Luis can then build in play from back and t/us guy can also make long penetrating passes from middle or field. He is good at that. S5, Holding and Chamber as Central Defenders.

  14. If Allegri is available, I think a January switch is to be expected. Also, Emery was the man selected by Gazidis…………

  15. Shite we have Leicester next week. Besides the fact we should have bought James Maddison, what will our defense do against them……capitulate?

  16. Just looked at Aston Villa vs Liverpool. How Liverpool fight, manage in good way to push and push Villa. Villa plays hard fight in their home, but it was delighted what Liverpool did.. well done.
Just still in a dream hope Arsenal can play well as expected. Few days ago when lead 3-1 & 4-2 & even 5-4 vs Liverpool in Carrabao cup, Arsenal could not maintain it.

  17. It is now upto the Club now, the ball is in their court! If Emery allows to stay till the end of season, the management is insane!
Emery’s problems are so apparent, it is beyond debate!

  18. For sure Micheal.l also foresaw blunder by substituting Torreira for a young winger Saka who could not contain the heat.Unai therefore is to blame for poor game reading. What he needed to do was to bring Torreira in DM field. We would have won at 1-0.
