Arsenal responded brilliantly after going behind to AC Milan

Arsenal have now won their third game in a row, scoring 8 goals in the process, but as usual we made it hard for ourselves by sitting back and letting AC Milan get the first goal to give them a bit of hope. But Arsene Wenger was very pleased with the response from his side to take control again. “It was a difficult game for two reasons.” he said. “One is that we played against a good side who are unbeaten in Italy for a long, long time and you could see why.

“Secondly, subconsciously we were in a protective mode a little bit with the handbrake from the start on. Instead of turning the game forward, we played backwards. That’s always the best way to invite your opponent to be dangerous. After that, when we are 1-0 down, you could see straightaway the response was in the team. As soon as we pushed forward, we looked dangerous and I believe overall, we won the two games and finished the games in a convincing way.

“It was a good game against a solid team and we needed to be resilient and disciplined. But we made a big part and the best part of the job in the first game. It’s always difficult to finish the job. Especially when you have a good away result, because you are a little bit in-between. That’s always difficult.”

the the Boss was asked if this showed that Arsenal had regained their confidence and style back after our awful losing run. He replied: “As I told you many times, we had a nightmare week and to recover from that you need to be mentally strong, you need to be solid. The team needs to show, together, a response. That’s what we did. Overall, I think many people didn’t expect us to respond like we did. That shows that the team is healthy, has a good basis and we have seen that for many teams, it is difficult to win at home when you have done it away from home.”

So now we are in the last eight, is this good for the club going forward? “Certainly, first for the climate around the team, it was a vital result for us tonight. Apart from that, we have targets as well now to finish as close as possible to the top four. And why not benefit from a miracle? But as well, focus on the quarter-final now.”

At least Wenger didn’t say our priority was still to try and make the Top Four for a change. It is obvious to us all now that the Europa League MUST be the main target, but to continue winning in the League would be very nice too!

  1. Yes they did respond well…. I was worried that after their goal we’d flap & make stupid errors! But they proved me wrong.
Yes we were very lucky with the penalty but I’ll take that all day long, who wouldn’t!
A couple of times I thought Ospina wasn’t very focused…. but he did make a really good save, plus Ozil was strolling around again… having said that I do still love him!! Well done boys, not long until the draw COYG

    1. Bad officials could cost Arsenal in the next round. But Arsenal fully deserved last night’s win

Arsenal took the advantage from the bad officials against Burnley last season, but they got hit unfairly by Watford and Richarlison in this season. It is better if UEFA responded to the criticisms before Arsenal’s next match begins

  2. Wenger has been doing good in the last three matches, but he has to maintain his players’ confidence

He also needs to make the contract rebels focus on their future at Arsenal and make them work hard to earn better contracts

According to some newspapers, Chelsea is after Ramsey. We would not want Sanchez’s, Ozil’s and Chamberlain’s cases happen to Wilshere and Ramsey, which could unsettle the other players

      1. Not even Iwobi?

  3. Its exactly how i was hoping we would play.
2-0 up is not an insurmountable lead. It was def possible for Milan to come back if we were lazy, clumsy and didn’t take them seriously. We were tough and disciplined and attacked.

If someone had said to me that we would win 5-1 on aggregate against Milan 2 weeks ago, I would say there were nuts but we did it?

Now we need to be even more strong and disciplined in the next round be it Atletico Madrid, Lazio, Leipzig, Salzburg, Lisbon, Moscow or Marseille. We can beat any or lose to any.

Im happy Aubameyang will be back

      1. Absolute joke of a ruling

Honestly as long as we avoid atletico an ideally Leipzig we can’t get to the semis

  4. It was not only the players that responded though was it?
The crowd was fantastic tonight and I think we, the fans, inspired the team to go forward with our great support.
Must also say well done to the AC Milan club and supporters. The noise from the fans was brilliant even when the tie was out of their reach. They sure know how to get behind their club.
Congratulations to everyone concerned with our club last night, onward and upward as they say!!!!!!
