Arsenal must believe! Spurs and Leicester fixtures keep title door open

Arsenal fans were left frustrated one again at the weekend when yet another good Premier League side failed to stop the league leaders Leicester City from continuing their remarkable run of results. Claudio Ranieri and his players have ridden their luck a few times recently but they keep coming out of games with three points and unless they start to drop a few soon then anything Arsenal can do will not be enough to save our Premier League trophy hopes.

But Arsene Wenger and the players have not given up on the title and looking at the respective run ins shown in a Metro report of the three challengers, Arsenal must believe we have a chance. Let’s be optimistic, or downright delusional depending on your point of view, and say that Arsenal win our remaining games and finish on 79 points.

That would mean that Leicester would need 11 points to guarantee they finished above us and 10 points to finish level and let goal difference decide it. We are only two goals behind them now with a game in hand so if we caught them you would assume that Arsenal would have the better goal difference, so really they need 11 points from six games, or three wins and two draws. Likely? Maybe but look at the games they have left.

Sunderland away, West Ham at home, Swansea at home, Man United away, Everton at home and Chelsea away on the final day. Is it really too much to think they could lose two and draw one of these? The first two are tough enough with Sunderland scrapping for every point and in the last seven games they have beaten Man United and drawn five including one against Liverpool at Anfield. And Leicester have not managed to beat any of the top six clubs at home yet so West Ham will be a real test.

The spuds also have some difficult fixtures ahead, including Stoke and Chelsea away, and they will be just one point ahead if we win our game in hand, but they do have a much better goal difference so you would assume their 79 points would beat ours. But if they dropped just two from a possible 18 points then Arsenal would win with the perfect finish.

Are you starting to believe?
