Arsenal rumour round-up – Mitroglou, Xhaka, Hummels & Oxlade latest

We travel to Sunderland this weekend in what could be an all-important match in both the relegation battle and the chase for CL football, but we thought we’d take a breather from the build up.

We are increasingly being linked with more and more targets by the day as the season draws to a close, and the latest claims are that two deals are being closed on.

The first is the most heavily reported, with Borussia Monchengladbach captain Granit Xhaka said to be an almost done-deal. Terms are now supposedly having been agreed ‘in principle’ ahead of the move, with just the fee to be thrashed out before the signing can be confirmed.

A deal for Kostas Mitroglou is also said to be going ahead, with the Greek striker having impressed on loan for Benfica this season. The Portuguese giants are keen on completing their own deal to sign him permanently this summer, but we are said to have held talks over a potential £5.5 Million deal.

Hummels is another heavily linked with a move to England, albeit a number of top English sides are believed to be keen. His father just poured fuel on the speculative fire by revealing they are considering their options.

The most surprising news for me however is that we have apparently offered Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to West Ham. The 22 year-old is still young and full of potential, and despite what many other fans think, still has a bright future to play. Our very own AdminOut also told me that he sees him as another Walcott, so clearly opinions are divided, but we all know Wenger is a fan.

Would Wenger really let Oxlade leave? What’s worse is that I believe we could actually sign former Fulham flop Mitroglou…

  1. Mitroglou I am just surprised that a top team will go after some player who is crap. Yep maybe it is the One good and One decent signing Wenger loves to do. Arsenal fans should continue taunting Wenger till the end of season I will be more happy than who comes in the club.

  2. There is no truth in all these rumours..
The only one you might wanna think about is Xhaka..
Others are just what they are:RUMOURS..
The thing about me is that I love rumours, as far as Arsenal is concerned..

  3. Hahaha……… Mitroglou is back on our radar……. Linked with him some 3 seasons ago when he was utter crap

just what we need to bang in 300 goals per season….pls get him ……pff

Tough being an Arsenal fan these years but we still Love it

  4. All paper talk, no basis in fact. Remember papers reporting Wenger as saying “spectacular signing on the way” when in fact he had said the exact opposite.

  5. Get Theo out already…. Oxlade is better than him with age on his side too. However I wouldn’t hold my breath on kante or xhaka. knowing Wenger wilshere and Ramsey are the next best things since sliced bread

    1. Could you please enlighten me what you are seeing in Oxlade-Chamberlain? Is it the 7 goals in 100 league appearances? Is it the 1 goal in 22 league appearances this season? Is it the 0 assists in 22 league appearances this season? Is it the running around like a headless chicken? Is it the giving the ball away stupidly in every match? At least Theo has shown some potential – even if he’s not come close to putting it all together consistently: a finishing rate of 20% in his last 4 seasons- Aguero’s is 21%, Henry’s was 20% in his last 4 seasons at Arsenal. He chips in a goal every 4 league appearances roughly, has bagged a few hat-tricks, has had good games against top opposition- he’s not the player we hoped, but he’s a far better bet than Oxlade-Chamberlain.

  6. I was not very impressed reading Mitroglou and doubt anyone was. If it’s true though I highly doubt he would be the only striker arrival, so with that well then Id at least entertain the idea of him coming along as a second or third option depending on how Giroud plays. This season I would have liked the opportunity to try him ahead of Theo and Olly. At least it would have been an alternative.

The Xhaka rumour, I find myself hoping it is true even though I know basically nothing about the player, except for what I read. The fact he came from Basel is a plus for me. He will know Elneny well enough and he was the first one to get plucked, I would like to see if these two could build some more on a midfield partnership. Also, when we lost Cazorla this season we had no-one to step in properly. Ramsey was the man until Elneny arrived, some better competition can only be good.

Hummels would be great, I see him moving to Bayern though. He spoke about how hard the decision is to make, whether to stay or go, and he said you will realise just how hard it was when I announce my intentions. That for me hints towards Bayern.

  7. as soon as the season ends , we need to have a clear direction who will be the next manager and get the transfers needed before july ends so they can go on tour and adapt before the new season starts. Alexis and Ospina will be given extended holidays due to Copa america and Ozil from the Europe cup too. Go and GeT HULK ( wc st 35 MILLIONS ), XAKHA, RENATO SANCHES or CARVALHO ( 25 MILLIONS ) and HUMMELS ( 20 MILLIONS ) = 80 millions then sell the deadwoods and recover at least 20 millions. ..The board needs to act as soon as posible..NO CHANCES FOR EXCUSES THERE IS NO SPECIAL ONES OUT THERE. NO MORE demise , we are the arsenal.GIVE US OUR GLORY TIMES BACK AND PRIDE.
