Arsenal set to take on Man City in race to sign relegated teenager

Arsenal and Manchester City are poised for a battle to secure the services of Wilfried Gnonto, according to Calciomercato.

The 19-year-old forward stood out among the limited standout performers in a struggling Leeds United side, and it was anticipated that his performances would attract attention once the season concluded.

While Gnonto’s individual record of two Premier League goals in 24 appearances may not typically catch the eye of top clubs like City and Arsenal, it is important to note that his team’s overall struggles played a significant role in his statistics.

Gnonto’s potential and abilities are not solely defined by these numbers, which is why both clubs have expressed interest in him.

Recognising the circumstances in which he operated, Arsenal sees the young Italian-born teenager as a promising talent worth pursuing, believing that he has more to offer and can flourish in a different environment.

Just Arsenal Opinion

Having watched Gnonto it is clear he has raw talent and under the right manager, he could definitely flourish and become a top player.

Arteta has a good record with young talent and Gnonto would likely get more opportunities at the Emirates, however, the lure of City could prove too much for the teenager.

  1. How would he ever fit into our team though ? He’s not a bad player but why would we really be thinking of him ? He’s just OK isn’t he ?

    1. And another thing Guardiola wouldn’t want him around so I don’t know how that rumour could be true. I can tell you why I don’t think Guardiola would want him, but it would be too controversial to put in print.

      1. I’m intrigued – there’s reports titled guardiola’s “crazy” for gnonto. I could see why he might not be the best fit for City, though I haven’t watched him too much, but i can’t see why guardiola would be especially against signing him aside from that?

        1. Davi – if I could speak with you (verbally) in private
I would tell you exactly what I mean. Best not to on here. Guardiola has certain traits that I have noticed but people would criticize me if I was to say what I believe those traits to be.So it’s best to leave it alone.

  2. The player we should target from any of demoting clubs is the one Romeo Lavia from Southampton.

    1. G – I haven’t noticed Lavia that much, but I can tell you Guardiola wouldn’t want him around either !!

      1. Evgunner the Citizens included a very interesting clause in the sale agreement which tells you Pep Guardiola knows he has a massive ceiling.

Didn’t get to see the Southampton vs Arsenal game herd he took the game by the scruff, by chance did you see it ?

        1. G – yes I saw that game and Lavia was fine, but to me he is like so many players today, strong, imposing etc, but how much skill and genuine abiity does he really possess ? I’m not putting him down or dismissing him, just want to see the “proof in the pudding” before we splash out on players.

            1. I have them every day, lol

Its a gamble you take on your investment when you purchase these kids, under good tutelage they excell.

When Real Madrid first brought Odegaard he showed more promise than Tchouameni and countless others but he stagnates and only excell away from his parent club on loan spells. Today he’s a different animal’s back on the trajectory he showed in his early teen.

It is for those reasons I know eggs will be on the gaffer face if we sell Smith Rowe to Unai Emery and his Aston Villa revolution.

  3. He is average at best, not exactly world class. Arsenal should be looking to Buy world class potential players not average. Buy Kim Min-iae, world class defender from Napoli, and sell Saliba as he cannot be trusted to remain fit or loyal to Arsenal. Saliba is Anelka 2.0 as far as loyalty and contracts are concerned, his mannerism is also similar to Anelka in the non emotional way he celebrates when Arsenal win. Sell him for £80 million and buy Kim Min- iae.

    1. daveg – yes we really have to raise the bar. Only excellent players need apply from now on. No more mistakes in recruitment. Admittedly it’s tricky getting the right players, but that is MA and Edu’s job to get it right. We as fans shouldn’t have to worry about these things as long as the men in charge no what they are doing. Not sure what the real delay is with Saliba but he has to be captured asap.
