‘Arsenal should have sold Ozil and Alexis Sanchez’

Wayne Rooney has claimed that that Arsenal should have parted ways with both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in the summer.

The duo are well into the final year of their contracts at present, and don’t appear likely to sign new deals at present.

The German could well agree terms according to Arsene Wenger, but there appears to be very little chance of the Chilean extending his stay in North London.

Wayne Rooney has now stated that the Gunners should have parted ways with their key men and replaced them this summer.

Rooney said: “With the two of them not signing contracts in the summer, I think that told you everything,” Rooney told Talksport. “The way it is, I don’t think they will be at Arsenal [next season].

“I feel they should have taken the money and looked elsewhere because, although they are top players and it is difficult to let those players leave the football club, when the going gets tough – as it is at the minute for Arsenal – you want players who want to be there and you can put your trust in.

“If they are not going to be there at the end of the season, maybe there are a few question marks.”

Whether Rooney is ignoring Wenger’s comments or simply not heard them, there remains a big chance that both will still depart the club, and Alexis has always appeared near-certain to quit the club by next term.

We did try and sell Alexis, albeit in a deadline-day deal, and you could argue that we should have made more of an attempt to sell the forward, and bring in a new star to play in his place.

Should we have sold both Alexis and Ozil? Is there any chance that either could still stay on at the Emirates?
