Arsenal should try and sign Liverpool outcast claims former player

Darren Bent believes Arsenal should be looking to bring in Liverpool outcast, Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Swiss attacker has been frozen out of the Reds line up this season and has barely seen action in any competition.

Footballinsider247 claims that the former Bayern Munich midfielder is hopeful of making a move out of Anfield as he looks to play more club football.

Bent, when he was asked about teams that could fight for Xaqiri, reckoned that the former Stoke City midfielder would not struggle to get suitors and named Arsenal as one of the teams who should try to sign him.

When asked which Premier League teams could end up banging down Liverpool’s door for Shaqiri, Bent told Football Insider: “I think Arsenal would probably take him, Manchester City nope, Chelsea nope, Spurs may potentially take him as well.

“I think there will be no shortage of takers so he has nothing to fear about that.”

Shaqiri has been in action for just 11 minutes in the Premier League this season and his persistent calf injury has also limited the number of times he has been named on the bench.

His performances in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Manchester United and their 4-0 win over Barcelona in the Champions League semifinal last season showed how important he can be on his day.

I am not sure I agree with Bent on this. Why would Arsenal want to sign the 27-year-old when they are well blessed with forwards?

But then again, we are talking Arsenal here so anything is possible.

  1. Arsenal should have signed him from Stoke before Liverpol. For 12M pounds and what he can deliver, he would have been a bargain. Where do you get an attacker like him for 12m these days? He plays just like Pepe except that he is stronger. With him we would have spent the Pepe money on two good defenders. Just my own bit and please do not bite me lol.

  2. Nope.

    Just nope.

The reason Klopp doesn’t play him is that he contributes nothing and I mean NOTHING defensively. Think much less than Ozil.

Now some of you may say it’s not important, but you then fail to understand modern football. If it’s an Eden Hazard quality, you can modify the whole team around him so defence doesn’t suffer. Not for Shaqiri, though.

This article is pointless because we already have Pepe in his position and Pepe will be given at least 2 years to prove himself due to his cost and future potential as he is 24 vs Shaqiri’s 28.

On the other hand, if Liverpool sold him for maximum 15 M AND Shaqiri would be happy with being a backup more or less always, then it would not be that bad. Give him 30 minutes and Shaqiri is much better than Reiss Nelson, for example. He can also sub for Ozil as an attacking MF, but again with similar drawbacks and worse quality.
