Arsenal simply cannot drop Coquelin on current form

Should Arsenal just drop Coquelin because of his price tag? By Galen.

This has been a fantastic week for Arsenal. I guess everyone of us would have taken 3 points against Southampton, a draw vs PSG away from home and a good spanking of Hull City away from home. What has surprised me the most was the victory over Hull City. We have won – and scored four goals – away from home and all people are talking about is Francis Coquelin.

The truth is that Francis Coquelin has been our best midfielder this season. Should we just drop him because he didn’t cost £42 million like Ozil or £34 million like Xhaka? I really don’t care about price tags. If you are good enough you play the game. Francis Coquelin was harassing the entire Hull City side and covered every blade of grass on the pitch. Even against PSG when the team went into hiding he was the only one playing with his heart. Yes, Ozil, Ox, Sanchez and the entire defence were hiding – but not Coquelin.

Against Hull City Coquelin was just exceptional. Funny enough the 3 best players on the day are the players who are questioned the most. Walcott is getting loads of stick, we are also asking why Iwobi and Coquelin are starting instead of Perez and Xhaka? We just won away from home in our best display so far this season and all we could talk about was why Xhaka is not playing? Look we are going to have 60 games this season and Xhaka and Perez will have loads of games.

Francis Coquelin vs. Hull City: Passes 98, Completed passing accuracy 98%, Ball recoveries 7, Tackles won 4, Interceptions 4

Look if Pogba had this statistics people would have been saying how he is worth every penny of the £100 million that was paid for him. But because it is Coquelin who cost £0 he is not getting the respect he should from the fans. It’s a little like Cazorla who came for £13 million and never seem to get the hype the likes of Ozil, Mata or Oscar received .

IF we are bringing Xhaka to the team like how everybody wants, who should we drop? I know it should definitely not be Coquelin. Coquelin deserves to be respected. This is a guy who came to Arsenal when we couldn’t win a game and he made us to be solid. His power and energy across the pack is outstanding. We need his legs and his lungs to function properly as a team. So who should be dropped when we play Chelsea ?

1) —–Coquelin———–Xhaka——

——————Ozil———————-

2) Cazorla————–Coquelin
——————-Ozil—————–

3) Xhaka————-Coquelin
————–Cazorla—————-

4) Cazorla————Xhaka
—————-Ozil—————-

These are the options available. Base on form Ozil should be dropped cause he has been the poorest of them all. Base on Price tags, I guess we just drop Coquelin because he cost £0 .

All I am saying is that Coquelin has earned the right to play for Arsenal and he should be respected by the fans. He has done it on the pitch and he does it in every game he plays in. Remember the Manchester city away performance of Coquelin? Pocketing David Silva and protecting our boarders like aterrific immigration officer.

Respect to the COQ. Wishing y’all a great week.

  1. Messi v Greizmann tonight

I like number 4 the best

But I would rather have Xhaka, Cazorla, Coquelin and Eleney than £100 million Pogba

  2. Elneny seems to be missing from all your formations. Last time I checked, he was still an Arsenal midfielder, and an awesome one at that

    1. @ Festo,
True talk, I completely forgot about Elneny , wow n we have Ramsey too. No wonder wilshere ran for his dear life so he could get games.

    1. How about all of them in a 4-4-2 diamond to dominate the mid field??

      ______________Coquelin______________

      Cazorla___________________Xhaka____

      ________________Ozil___________________

      _______Who?___________Alexis

  3. i completely agree with you, arsenal fans might be the most present online but i truly believe that they are some of the most clueless when it comes down to the game, they slam the manager based on what they read in the papers,on websites as if it were the gospel truth some of them would like to think they,d do a better job than wenger and our players, they post a lot of comments and don,t even know the positions of some players even when we win comfortably they,re never satisfied oh also they love the usual cliches used by the so-called journalists/pundits.COYG keep up the good work!!

  4. what form? in the last two games he started in DM (PSG and Hull) he ddnt do his main work as a DM and left the back-Iine so exposed; he was always going offensive.
Coquelin is not in any form

    1. Um you do know Wenger sees Coq as a box to box, hence the reason you see him going forward Ramsey style.

It is from instructions to get forward, that why you see Cazorla back and when Cazorla forward Coq is back.

Besides if your lw, cam, rw and St aren’t getting into the box like they suppose to I appauled Coq for taking initiative against Psg we did the the goal BTW.

  5. I believe Wenger will change this.

    I anticipate the following

    —–Coq Xhaka—–
    Cazorla Ozil Sanchez
    ——–OG——–

  6. What do you mean “Drop” Coq? He won’t be “dropped” But the best DM must play – that is Xhaka.

Xhaka was acquired to play DM. You would hope he was not acquired to clean the showers for 35 mil. Do you believe ManU will sit Pogba because Carrick is still there?

XHAKA MUST be the DM. If Wenger wants to work him in more slowly – that is fine. Great to have Coq playing well also.

    1. He may have been bought to play DM, but Wenger sees him playing in a box to box role. Also his defensive stats is not better than Coquelin’s.

  7. I think Wenger is trying to build partnerships in CM, if this is right or wrong is besides the issue 😛

Coquelin and Cazorla work as a partnership, we see them play together this season and appear to be the 1st choice partnership.

Coquelin and Elneny worked well last season, they played well together I thought.

Xhaka has done well and scored just amazing goals but he has to develop that partnership type of quality that Wenger seems to like, this may take a bit of time and he is always good to bring of the bench to hold a lead while he is developing that understanding in the training ground.

Xhaka and Elneny in the CM looks like it could be a good combo, both being able to tackle like a DM and both neat passers of the ball… and both a long range threat. They done well together against Forest and I thought they shown promising signs, if they can develop a good partnership then Wenger might get his wish of not having a DM but 2 B2B cm…

Coquelin will have to step up on his offensive side but he looks to be adding that nicely to his game, in a few years time the 2 CM roles could be between these 3 unless Ramsey steps up with his def side of his game… then it could be between those 4. Until then Cazorla makes sure we have 2 players for each of those 2 roles… I kinda like how that can force Ramsey into stepping up the def side of his game or look to be an Ozil backup XD We know a inform Ramsey is good to watch, I want to see him bring that back.

  8. Yes, he can and should be dropped. I’m all up for him to play in EFL, and other meaningless games, but when 3 points are on the line in a title race or CL, he simply doesn’t cut it. Against good passing teams with strong midfield, Coq is nothing but a liability. Every time he goes to the ground I’m expecting to see a mistimed tackle, and a yellow/red card. Spurs game last season is a good example of that. We were dominating the game, and if it wasn’t for a silly challenge that Coq made earlier in the 2nd half we would’ve easily won the game. Instead, we were lucky to get a point. Having said that, he’s a decent squad player who’s good for our depth. But like I said earlier, he should mostly be playing against smaller clubs.
