Arsenal star worried about his place on the team after one season

Arsenal signed Martin Zubimendi just a year ago, but they are now struggling to keep him happy at the Emirates.

He was a key man in their team when they won the league title last season, and Zubimendi was being followed by Chelsea and Real Madrid this summer. However, since the end of last season, the midfielder has lost some of his relevance, starting with the World Cup, when he was benched for the entire tournament in favour of Rodri.

Zubimendi would have hoped that when he returned to Arsenal, he would get back into the team and start matches, while retaining the trust of his manager. However, since returning to Arsenal for the new season, he has only been on the pitch for 42 minutes across three games.

Zubimendi faces battle for place

His late arrival from his summer break, after winning the World Cup, may have been an issue for him, but he will now need to fight for his place in the team.

Fichajes says Zubimendi is now worried about his position at Arsenal and fears he has lost his relevance within the squad. The report claims the Spaniard is concerned that he could soon fall out of the manager’s plans completely.

That situation could potentially push Zubimendi towards the exit in the next transfer window. Having been an important part of Arsenal’s team last season, the midfielder now faces a difficult challenge to regain his position.

Arsenal midfield competition grows

The arrival of Bruno Guimaraes has increased competition in midfield, while the fine form of Myles Lewis-Skelly has also made Zubimendi’s fight for regular playing time more difficult.

The Spaniard still retains the trust of his manager, but his limited minutes at the start of the new season will inevitably raise questions about his role. Arsenal have several options available, and Zubimendi must now demonstrate that he deserves to return to a more prominent position.

For the midfielder, the immediate priority will be to regain his place and prove his importance to the Gunners. If his situation does not improve, however, speculation over his future could increase when the next transfer window opens.

Zubimendi joined Arsenal with the expectation of becoming an important player, but he now faces a serious fight for regular football at the Emirates.

  1. All this keeping a player happy rubbish. If you join a big club, you’re place isn’t going to be guaranteed.

If you’re not willing to compete for a first team place, then find yourself a smaller team to get you’re place unchallenged.

    1. 👍Derek; but, even though they do want to be happy, I think the overwhelming majority of players would agree with you as well.

  2. Are these reports about Zubimendi being unhappy, coming directly from conversations with the player, or are they just clickbait stories from journalists.

He’s an experienced professional footballer playing for one of the biggest Clubs in the world.

He’s going to expect competition for his place.

He’d probably be very surprised, and more than a bit concerned about the Club’s direction and ambition if he didn’t get it.

    1. Chris S,

I wonder if he’s surprised that the club let 5 left sided players go, and replaced them with one.

That’s not big club behavior in my book.

      1. They just wanted to make certain that we didn’t stop complaining about how ineffective the left side of attack was compared to the right. At least we still have our best set piece takers to carry the load, lol.

  3. There are no actual quotes from Zubimendi Michelle, so how do we know what he’s thinking?
I make him an essential squad member who shouldn’t be at all concerned about his position within the team, although he’ll probably play less this season, which should benefit him and the club.

    1. Yeah Jax, it’s usually more effective to take a quote out of context, splice it up, toss it around a little and only then start a narrative. 🤣

  4. Like Skelly surprised us with his comeback performance, I expect Zubimendi to do likewise in a few weeks time esp when the ucl fixtures hot up.
