Arsenal step up their chase for midfielder after Benfica make a bid

Arsenal faces serious competition for the signature of long term target.

Arsenal could eventually make a January signing this month after they intensified their pursuit of Athletico Paranaense’s Bruno Guimaraes.

The Gunners have been one of the teams who have been scouting the Brazilian for a long time and it appears that they will eventually make their move as another European side is keen.

The Daily Star citing Goal Brasil claims that Benfica are serious about beating Arsenal to his signature and the Portuguese side has even tabled a bid in the region of €20 million.

However, the Brazilians have rejected that offer and it appears that they want more money. which Arsenal can afford.

Mikel Arteta was not intending to have a busy transfer window this time as he hoped to spend more money in the summer, however, he has maintained that if an attractive player became available he might be forced to spend.

According to the same report, Guimaraes has been tracked since 2017 which was before he moved to his present club and the Gunners have been getting a steady report of his progress since then.

He has a Spanish passport which would make a move to Arsenal easy as he would get a work permit easier than if he didn’t have a European passport.

This is one of the big problems for Arsenal, other clubs coming in and snatching players that they may not have wanted to sign now but rather in the summer.

In better words, other clubs are forcing the Gunners to act sooner than they would have wanted.

  1. Looks very good on the ball on YouTube but have a feeling his club are only dropping our name to increase the transfer fee / drum up some more interest.

  2. I dont agree with the statement “they want more money.which Arsenal have” we haven’t that is the problem with all these rumours, they are baseless.

  3. This is why Edu was brought in. To take advantage of the South American market which is under-utilised by English clubs. He could be a diamond, he looks very good and I hope we get him.

    1. If it is true, the only way we will get him is to buy on the never never over 5 years, which the parent club might not want or to agree to buy but loan him back and take the money off the summer budget. Unless we have a player to sell, we haven’t the money for transfers. Who are we selling?

  4. Could the decision to keep Nketiah at the club means one of Auba/Laca are leaving. Laca more likely if the rumours of Athletico are correct.

Could we essential turn Laca into Lemar + 20m. Then add $5 and get Guimaraes? Although I particular don’t want Lemar but I think Arteta said he wants a similar style player to Lemar

    1. I believe both will leave this summer but im not sure either will leave mid season but maybe we can wheel and deal. With auba out, i dont see it but maybe last day rush. I still struggle to see much happening but its not impossible. Just improbable.

  5. AFC shouldn’t be going for buying to keep players..
    We need already fitted in..

We shouldn’t be bringing in if none is exiting. It should be a roller coaster thing.
I think Laca swap deal plus cash with Lemar isn’t happening.. Am like why, would you be swapping a SS for a AMF, and let’s assume Auba leaving during summer also. I’m now asking Please, whose gonna fill the void? Young phenomenal Martinelli’? Strange Pepe? Bright Nketiah? Or wait, are they preparing to get a top notch SS we do not know of.?

    I don’t understand.
Laca should be tied down with a new deal by all means.. He has alot to burn..

    1. A reliable source says Laca will go,if not in this window then at the end of the season. But Auba will be tied down

        1. Utube videos can make any player look good.Beware.From what I have seen he is only slightly quicker than Xhaka.I would urge extreme caution.

  6. This Brazilian seems to be good and if Arsenal can afford than they should go for him. Anyway Nketiah staying put at Arsenal is a good fact, because the guy has got a scoring knack and with Laca still not firing he can score goals for us and once Laca starts firing again and Auba is back Nketiah will only add further ammunition and Arsenal will suddenly find themselves amongst goals.
