The options are not great for Arsene Wenger when it comes to the Arsenal back four at the minute. Maybe the Frenchman is now regretting not pulling out the stops to sign another defender in the summer, but he is stuck with what we have until January at least.
Until the two France internationals Laurent Koscielny and Mathieu Debuchy are available again, Wenger seems to have only two realistic options. Either Calum Chambers at right back with Nacho Monreal in the middle or Chambers in the middle and Hector Bellerin on the right, but has the manager got it right?

I can understand why he went with Monreal against Anderlecht because it was the fifth game in a row for the Spaniard in the middle and the previous two ended with clean sheets, but he was exposed against the Belgians, especially against the extra strength of Mitrovic. On Sunday we travel to Wales to face Swansea City and I fear for Monreal against the strength of Wilfried Bony.
The Welsh club also have some real pace in Routledge and Dyer while Sigurdsson can pick a pass to unlock defences. In my opinion, Chambers is the better central defender and should come in for that game at least. It does mean starting with the young and inexperienced Bellerin at right back, but one of the kid’s main attributes is the pace to deal with the Swansea wide men.
