Arsenal target defender asking for January transfer bid?

He has been the subject of quite a number of Arsenal transfer rumours before, but the latest statement from the Switzerland international central defender Fabian Schar is sure to make him the subject of many more in the next few weeks and months.

With the opening of the January transfer window now under two m onths away, the search to find the right player to strengthen the Gunners defensive side should be hotting up, although many Arsenal fans will say that it should have been wrapped up before the summer trnsfer window slammed shut.

The 22-year old Basel defender has built on last season’s impressive form with some more great performances this time around and there is plenty of interest in him from all over Europe. And Schar is certainly not trying to discourage any tranfer bids, according to a Daily Express report.

THe talented young defender who is currently ntrying to help Basel beat Liverpool into the knockout phase of the Champions League has pretty much opened himself up to offers by claiming that he is ready for a new challenge and even specifically naming the Premier League as one of his preferred destinations.

Schar said, “”Basel are open to negotiations, but at this moment I have decided that I want to concentrate on my performances.

“I went through a difficult period and it wasn’t the right time to discuss my renewal. I don’t want to be worrying about that now.

“My dream remains to have an experience abroad. I’ve always said that if the opportunity presented itself, I would take it, obviously in agreement with Basel.

“I need a team with important prospects. I’d like the Bundesliga, Premier League or top Italian clubs like Inter, Milan and Juventus. I couldn’t say no.

“I want to hear all my options and consider them carefully. There was some contact in the summer, but nothing serious.”

So is Schar the man to solve Arsenal’s defensive problems in January?

  1. Would be the perfect understudy to Koscielny. This guy has great potential to become a world class centre back. Out of all defenders we were ‘linked’ with last summer, he was the most exciting one to me (yes, more than Hummels).

  2. might have to watch him closely against Liverpool….. What a fine opportunity 2 watch him against a premier League team … Something he will be doing week in and week out should his move to Arsenal *coughs* even ever materializes

  3. OT
i believe our best summer signing is Shad forsyte. Many of our players are “ahead of schedule” and our players hardly get knocked in training. most of their injuries come from the pitch. Theo is playing a bit faster even though he’s been out for 9months. gibbs, according to the media,is supposed to be out for 3 weeks, but he’s here. Giroud is 3weeks ahead of schedule, sanogo is back, ramsey and arteta came back a week ahead of their proposed return date. debuchy is in the gym already. i believe AFc made the right signing. now all i want is to see a fit diaby.

    COYG!!!
what happens if dortmund loses and we win? top of the table baby, and its like hummels will miss the return leg…hmmm. tasty.

    1. spot on mate… sometimes injuries are unavoidable, but I am pleasently surprised at how quickly players are recovering. Many players training before expected date etc… I AM SO HAPPY… before it was “player recovery delayed” used to just piss me off..

      1. That’s the power is change right there.

Sticking to the same systems and individuals you tend to miss out on better things – “African Proverb – A child who does not visit other homes or places always praises the mom as been the best cook”. Wonder what else we can change and rip the full benefits.

Anyway the most exciting news from the medical room will be the return of Kos, we need him in the united game to put a boot up RVP’s arse and send them lower down the table.

    2. I think Diaby isn’t injured(!!!!), he even played U21 match without getting injured. I mean there was no injury news as such. I think Forstye is taking extra pre-cautions on him. Lets see how it goes..

  4. Laporte, Schar, Carvalho..anyone of these are fine to me. Young and talented. We need defensive minded player can be either CB or DM. Our attack is sorted out with the Theo in squad. And, Alexis is banging goal consistently.

However we have one more option, play Alexis at CB/DM, this guy can do well anywhere.!!

  5. I tried looking on YouTube at this guys as I’ve not seen much of him, and a bit weird I can find loads of him scoring goals and making 50 yard passes but very little defending 🙁

  6. I watched couple matches with him when we were first interested, he is ok but needs to improve some more, good in the air , i think s defending needs improving similar to GINTER
