Arsenal to sell Elneny? Ramsey is much more likely to leave….

There have been rumours about Arsenal having to cut the wage bill, and also that Marseille have come in with an offer for Mohammed Elneny, but I can assure you that that is very unlikely to happen. The Egyptian is a great utility squad player and has only just signed a new contract this year. We know his wages are tiny compared to the likes of Xhaka, Ozil, Ramsey and Torreira and he can fill in many positions when called upon.

Not only that, but Emery made it clear that the only ones that will leave are already decided, and Elneny is not one of them. “Today, we had a meeting with the players to close all the possibilities to leave or come with more players,” Emery said.

“We only have three players: Carl Jenkinson, David Ospina, and Joel Campbell, with the possibility to leave.

“But the other players are with us and we are going to work at the Emirates the day before the match with all the players,”

So why would he change his mind now?

The one thing that could really have an effect on reducing our wage bill would be to sell Ramsey and not give him a massive pay rise, and in my opinion that is much more likely to happen if he doesn’t sign the contract in the next week. I can see no sense in letting him run his contract down as we have seen the negative effect it can have on the squad…

So my conclusion… Elneny going nowhere!

  1. If Ramsey goes it will have to be to a European Cluband the only ones that would pay him the money he thinks he is worth don’t need him and don’t want him.So basically Ramsey is either signing and staying or running out his contract.Arsenal should give him a deadline and reduce the offer if he doesn’t sign.Either way we have pretty much no control over Ramsey’s decision it seems and he is dictating the situation.
Emery is on record saying he wants him to stay so it’s obviously all about the money for the player. Is he worth paying whatever he is asking? Its one of those decisions that your damned if you do or damned if you don’t.But if no Top Euro Club wants him now then they will only want him next year as a free agent and even then it will be a Second Tier Club not the Elite Tamsy seems to believe will come calling

    1. Phil, agree with all of what you say, but why are we in this position yet again?
I thought it was never going to happen again once Wenger left and Huss was employed to deal with these matters.
I see the same scenario here as we had with Sanchez and Judas RVP, so surely the reason that it was all down to him is now proven to be completely untrue?
You are so right in saying that the player has complete control, wasn’t that the case with the two above?
Neither manager wanted these players to leave and tried their hardest with enormous salary increases, but in the end had / have to decide what THEY think is the best outcome.
We could let his contract run out and he goes for nothing, or give in to his wage demands.
As you say, damned if you do etc… just as the Sanchez and Judas RVP scenario proved to be.
As a fellow Tony Adams fan, did you agree with his assessment of the game on Sunday? I thought he summed the game up perfectly, including tactics, selections and substitutions.
Emery will get it right and whatever he decides to do with Ramsey is ok with me, personally just like Jon I’ve lost all patience with him.

I did contribute a similar post, but it seems to have got lost, apologies if it suddenly appears.

      1. Ken- in regards the Ramsey contract running down I can only assume that the timing was always in the players favour despite Huss coming on board. The important thing now is for the Club never to allow themselves to get in this situation again.
In regards Tony Adams and his comments following Sunday’s game I could only say that it is very difficult to argue with his and so many others. But I thought we showed commitment and the players tried to play to a new system but Citeh were just too good.Torreira and Lacazette immediately made a difference when they came on and even though it was unfortunate for AMN to go off as he did you immediately saw the impact Lichstiener had even though he is more known for playing on the right hand side.
Emery will change things on Saturday I’m sure and if we keep a shape and pattern about our game we are capable of getting a result. We did seem to get stronger as the game went on and that surely was down to Lacazette offering an outlet and Torreira replacing Xhaka who was just dreadful again.I would like to see the team that finished start against Chelski with Montreal at LB if he’s fit to play. And Citeh are a far far better team than the Chavs so we do have everything to play for

      1. Phil and Malcolm, agree completely and now we have the news that AMN is out for eight weeks!!
Will we ever get a break?

  2. Emery’s lineup against Chelsea will go a long way to show us how he operate weather he adopts and learn from mistakes i believe we the crop of players to beat Chelsea at the bridge at worst get a draw all he needs is to get the lineup right…
cech/Leno (i don’t care they are both good)
bell sok mus litch (if moreal is stil nt ready)
    geundo torirrer
    iwobi ozil auba
    laca

  3. Ramsey is overrated at the wage he is purportedly asking. The only problem is he is one of the better players currently left at the club. Emry finds himself in a conundrum where he wants to keep Ramsey for the current season but may let him go in the next window, knowing that his contract is running down but a new offer is not worth it.

  4. Enemy is a decent player who is good value for money.Xhaka is a completely overrated player who is not worth anything like the £35m paid by Wenger. If any midfielder has to go, Xhaka is your man.

    1. Xhaka is pants and has been ever since signing. He must go and not play again, unless injuries dictate. He is a totally rubbish player, completely unsuited to thr frantic paced Prem. I do not rate Elneny in the least either but prefer him to Xhaka.

    2. Agree. Elneny is nothing special of course but I’d have him on the bench over Xhaka. At the very least Xhaka needs to stop being played in a CDM role. Waiting for a coach to realize he is the worst CDM out of the top 6 teams.

  5. A MONTH AGO , ON BALANCE, SINCE IT WAS A CLOSE CALL, I WANTED RAMSEY TO STAY, provided he signed for a sensible wage. Now I think we are better off selling him ASAP and this window if we can find a foreign buyer. He is now doing us more harm than good with his self conceit and high opinion of himself and his value, unshared with many, or hardly any, Gooners.

    1. Agree. I was for him to stay, but it’s getting ridiculous and time is up. Arsenal can’t keep giving mega-contracts to players that aren’t on that talent level. Either take the deal they are offering or move on at this point. Should’ve done the same with Ozil months ago instead of offering him a dumb deal as well. No more stupid deals for above-average players. That’s not how we get back to our best.

    2. Jon, totally agree with your sentiments regarding the adverse effects he could be causing.
One bad apple comes to mind and haven’t we had our share of them over the years!

  6. Am quite surprised at Ramsey stalling…. he isn’t worth 300k a week, there’s no way he’d get that kind of money anywhere else…. I hope we don’t give in to his demands… he obviously knows he’s not guaranteed a starting spot now…. maybe he thinks the grass is greener elsewhere, just like Sanchez did….. in that case sod off!!!! Can’t deal with another Sanchez drama

    1. It’s too late now, this is the scenario that Ramsey wanted, he got through the last window because he asked for enormous wages that he knew he was never going to get. I’m telling you, he’s conned us, it doesn’t matter what we offer him, he’ll turn it down, this is all about money. He doesn’t care one iota about Arsenal, in six months he can make a deal with any club he wants and six months after that he will join them for nothing getting a massive wage. This has been his plan from day one. The greedy bastard’s already a millionaire but he want’s more. I’ve wanted him out of club for the last year, you’ve all read my posts of what I think of him, useless footballer and useless person. 36 Premier League goals in ten years, laughable.

      1. He shouldn’t play anymore, he should be an unused sub. I’ll be really disappointed if he starts on Saturday Kenny!

  7. Can’t tell you how many starting lineups all over social media that has Ramsey in their starting 11. Then when they get challenged on it it’s always he scored the FA Cup final or Community Sheild then that’s it. Ramsey had that 1 good season and that was it for me, never been a fan and never will. Ramsey is such a basic player that lacks composure on top of that. The bias is real, even though I agree with criticism of Xhaka on some cases, most forget Ramsey was a massive part of our disastrous midfield for a very long time thinking he’s our main striker at times. My GOD there are so many better and even younger options out there than can easily bench this guy. The only purpose I see us holding on to Ramsey is for the homegrown quota. Now after what we as fans went through not so long ago with the Alexis contract saga, he’s doing the same f**king thing. That comment he made about my agent is handling it infuriated me even more. Don’t tell me he can’t tell his agent I want to sign now if the club is truly in his heart. With our new regime I expected situations like this to be dealt with ASAP on the clubs watch not the players. I say this finally, I know it was just match day 1 but I would start 19 year old Guendouzi from ligue 2 over him right now.

  8. As for Elneny, if The Arsenal are truly trying to win the EPL at some point again this is not the player to help us do that. The perfect player to have if 6th place is your goal for the season. Sell at earliest convenience. Sorry but selfies with Özil doesn’t convince me otherwise either nor the he’s a good squad player argument. Another basic player.

  9. I would sell at least 5 players from current team, and sell him asap. I think that we have young players who will have a hard time and maybe make some
mistakes playing every game in PL, but it will be Arsenal investment for the future… much brighter then Wenger s boys ever were: Welbeck, Ramsey, Xhaka, Elneny and Ospina.

  10. All players should be completely committed to the team by now. We are about to start the second game. If a player hasn’t yet arranged his contract, that shows you how serious and involved he is with the team. Ramsey is only killing confidence among the team. What is he really saying with his attitude? -Guys, dont worry. Im staying, only if nothing better shows up.
Cmon!. There are players who want to shine at arsenal, they see it at the moment of their lives and ramsey is asking for more money?. Mercenaries shouldn’t play for this team.

  11. Shocking to consider Ramsey as “captain material” when he clearly cares very little for the club compared to his paycheck.

Club should set an example with him by banishing to U-23’s so no other players pull this nonsense.

That Diva needs Arsenal far far more than club needs him.

    1. As a manager I would hope Emery is furious that Ramsey using Emery’s words to enlarge his wages. Straight mercenary and ungrateful of him to say the least.
      .
Fully deserving of any boos that rain down upon him. Hopefully with Guendouzi and Torreria starting it shows how unnecessary Ramsey’s position and place in squad is. AMN is worth the opportunity, and will be better player in year or two I’m sure.

  12. What is this stupid media agenda being set for Unai Emery and the Arsenal board? So the writers of this Elneny story want Arsenal to be decimated and have no depth in four competitions this season? I just hope only Ospina, Jenkinson, Campbell and Bielik leave. If Elneny stays in the bench often, let it be, we need the numbers. His chances will come! I’m a journo too but so sad with this report

  13. re: stays ON the bench (not in) I meant to type… We need Elneny and the rest of the squad aside from those mentioned by Emery at his press conference before the City game. There are 4 competitions to be played by Arsenal so enough of the sales.

    1. Izuchukwu, you are right in that Arsenal has to field teams for 4 competitions and Elneny is a solid squad player.
Ramsey on the other hand is not worth £110,000 per week, let alone an increase. He will be retained this season hopefully on the bench or in reserves on current wages. When Ramsey leaves on a free it will be interesting to see where he ends up, potentially disappearing into obscurity.
An issue which has to be addressed at Arsenal is paying players a premiun compared to elsewhere in the EPL.

  14. People keep saying “sell Ramsey”, but the fact is we can’t just sell him.

If he decides to see his contract out, and leave on a free next year, get a big signing on fee, and big wages as he’s cost his new club zero in transfer fees, there’s now’t we can do about it.

Personally, if he doesn’t want to be sold, I’d rather he left for free next year, and not be lumbered with a player earning 3 times his worth for the next 4/5 years.

    1. stubill, I agree and it will be interesting to see where Ramsey ends up even on a free, given his over inflated opinion of his own ability and sense of what wages he can demand.

  15. Two games played by Elneny stick in my mind. Unfortunately I cannot remember the first one but it was similar to the second so no problem.
The second one occurred in one of our pre-season matches. It appeared that Elneny and Guendouzi were played as what I can only call two box to box players.
They both defended well but on top of that they broke forward as and when they could to help the attack and to me were very impressive. I remember thinking ‘Nice move Guendo’ only for the commentator to say ‘That was excellent work by Elneny!!??” So much for my eyesight! They both showed excellent stamina, energy and a willingness to both get back to help the defence and get forward to help the attack and seemed to enjoy playing together. As in the game I cannot remember, Elneny showed (at least to me) what he is capable of when given the chance.
Accordingly I wouldn’t mind if Unai continues giving all his squad a chance and plays Elneny against Chelsea. My ideal formation would be:
A back four of whoever is fit
    Torreira in front of them
Elneny AND Guendo as box to box players in front of Torreira
Ozil in front of those two (sometimes called a ‘diamond formation’)
BOTH Auba and Laca in front of Ozil.
All players told to move around the pitch and make full use of its width as and when they see fit and not to stay in any sort of rigid formation. Too easy to mark.
I’m afraid Miki doesn’t make it in this line up but was not overly impressed with him against City and of course Ramsey and Xhaka should be nowhere near the first team squad.
To sum up, against Chelsea, who are a very good team, I think the energy, work rate and sheer enthusiasm showed by BOTH Guendo and Elneny in midfield could be massive for us and could earn us at least a draw.
Here endeth the lesson:) Let the critics steam in!

  16. OUR CLUB IS SOFT WHEN IT COMES TO THESE MATTERS…..SINCE WHEN DO THE EMPLOYEES DICTATE TO THE EMPLOYER…….RIDICULOUS

  17. The good thing about Ramsey’s situation is that we will not sell him to our rivals. We can only sell him to clubs abroad

  18. Sale Ramsey not worthy that much. By the way did or have guys observed that whoever leaves Arsenal ends up lyk he’s quit football !? Lets name a few ~ kleb , Nasri, song, sagna, flamini , should i even go on! Fabrigas,van-persie, sanches …. Just so many just named the recent. Will not give a damn if ramsey left. Will end up a flop and end up regretting leaving Arsenal

  19. “We know his wages are tiny compared to the likes of Xhaka, Ozil, Ramsey and Torreira”

    Should recheck that statement.

Elneny is on around £55k a week.
Torreira is on about 2.6mil per year which works out at roughly 50k a week, some reports claim he is on as much as £75k a week.

Max reported wage is £20k more, that wouldn’t suggest that Torreira wage is tiny compared to Elneny.
