Arsenal told they “100 per cent” need to sell big-name player

Arsenal urged to cash in on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Former Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere has weighed in on the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang transfer saga.

The Frenchman, who spent eight years on Arsenal’s books after joining as a teenager and working his way into the first-team, believes the Gunners have now missed their chance to make as much money out of Auba as they could have done.

Speaking to Goal, Aliadiere said: “They’ve got to sell him, 100 per cent.

“Arsenal can’t keep losing players on a free. To be honest, I still can’t believe we’ve again got a top player, our captain, going into the summer only having one year left on his contract.

“For me, it has to be sorted when he gets to two years. Last summer he should have signed a deal or been sold.”

While we take Aliadiere’s point, there’s more to football than making money, and it would have been a pretty disastrous decision to let a player of Aubameyang’s quality go without trying our best to keep him.

Even now, as he heads into the last year of his contract, it’s not clear we wouldn’t just be better off keeping his 25-30 goals a season for one more season and then letting him leave on a free.

Who are we realistically going to sign for any kind of feasible money that could do what the Gabon hit-man has done for us since he joined? It’s not as simple as Aliadiere makes it sound.

  1. Arsenal would never ever manage to keep a top hungry player simply because they are not ambitious enough, the owners do not want to be a top team period!! The player comes, make his name then move on when he is ready to fight in a more ambitious and hungry environment, its the team fault but the owner business philosophy

  2. Auba has made his name in Dortmund. Its frustrating for him to play along side under performing players like Ozil, Xhaka and Mustafi

    1. Yeah I agree totally-The Club must SACK Arteta immediately. I mean he should have been playing ……………………………….???
      Numpty

  3. Agree. Sell him, get some cash, reinvest. We’ll have to see how these new transfer windows looks first though too. Either way this will be his last “season” with us.

  4. Depends on the offer, unless it is 50 million plus (which would be incredible for a player of his age with 1 year left on his contract) keep him for 1 last year.
Let him leave on a free with love and respect for his efforts while playing and his ambition to win trophies.
Martinelli Laca Pepe when coached well could be a deadly front three. Plenty of pace, skill and power there. Saka defo will push for a place in that 3 and we need nketiah to get much stronger or buy another striker when Auba moves on.
We’re light weight all over the pitch after our 1st 11, even the 1st 11 aren’t world beaters but can be on their day.
Let’s hope we can find a few gems and move on some of the dead wood.
